The Aftermath

Jeff’s POV

I pulled up screeching to a halt right up into Kiara’s grandparent’s gravel driveway with 2 other blacked out SUVs close behind. It was completely pitch black , even the street lamps in front of their house were out “Strange, eyes peeled men, something is definitely off" “ You smell that?” Trevor my soon to be beta asked loudly. I took a big whiff as the wind slowly picked up “BLOOD". We picked up our pace towards the house. All the noise I could hear was my own heart beat. It was so loud it drowned out the sound of us 13 wolves walking quickly up the long gravel driveway. The smell of blood getting stronger with each step we take closer to the house. At this point I’m certain this will not be a good outcome. My poor mate has been put through so much tragedy all at the hands of her sadistic father. Alec my wolf snarls in my head ‘ I will rip his fucking throat out, he’s done too much to our mate` ‘don’t you mean we?’ I asked my wolf but he said nothing in return as we reached the door. I could feel Alec pacing in my mind as I went to open the door. It was unlocked. I mind linked my men to be ready. They all raised their crossbows as did I. I threw open the door and was greeted by the metallic smell of blood and death. I stepped in and there they were in the middle of the living room in a big pile of blood. Her grandfather had half his throat ripped off and just in front of him his wife’s headless body. We later found her head in the kitchen trash. Next to her were two red eyeballs and a vampire 10 feet away with no heart or eyes. On the other side 5 feet away was a vamp that had been staked right in the heart. ‘ it’s a bloodbath’ I said to Alec ‘ at least they managed to take out two of them` ‘our mate is going to be heart broken` ‘we will help her, we will make her pain go away` I didn’t respond to Alec as I wasn’t too sure we would be able to help her through this. We looked through the house to make sure no one else was in the house. Once clear my men collected the bodies of my mates grandparents, she’ll want a funeral for them. Once the bodies were loaded and on their way to the pack morgue, I instructed my beta to burn the house along with the dead vamps. I jumped into my ruby red mustang and raced back to the pack. I needed to get to Kiara before she woke up.

KIARA’S POV

I stood there staring in a mirror but instead of my reflection, the death of my mother played over and over. The red eyed man’s face clearer than ever. Next played the death of my best friend Ketzia. Blood spilling every where and out of the mirror onto me. “No no no this is a dream, it’s a dream, IT’S A DREAM, IT’S A DREAM!" I screamed louder and louder like it would put a stop to all the blood filling up the room I was standing in. It made its way up over my head as I continued to panic and scream and attempt to swim upwards, but I was getting no where. It was like something was weighing me down. I screamed one more time as loud as I could. Immediately my eyes snapped open. My heart was beating out of my chest and sweat was dripping down my fore head. My vision started to clear up and 2 things I noticed first. One the room was blue as can be. Two there was a scared young beautiful woman dressed as a nurse standing in the corner of the room with wide eyes and the most fearful look I have ever seen staring back at me. I look behind me because she’s definitely not staring at me like I’m the weird one. Of course there was nothing but a wall. I looked back at her and she shook her head and coughed. “ I’m sorry Miss Kiara, for staring. I’m not trying to offend you or anything, it’s just--" She trailed off and became quiet and started fidgeting with her hands and looking at her feet. “ It’s okay, you can tell me" I prompted the young nurse. “ Well it’s just I heard you screaming, so I thought you were awake, but you weren’t. You were laying there screaming at the top of your lungs with your eyes closed. You called for your mom and Ketzia over and over. Then----" “ well don’t stop now,, you need to tell me the rest.” “ Well you ummmm you started levitating and flames busted out your hands" That’s when I noticed a fire extinguisher right next to her on the floor. I looked around to assess the damage and saw I almost lit my bed on fire. My blanket was completely burnt to ash. My jaw dropped as I saw the rest of the room, the chair that was in the corner to the right of me was ash. The counter with the sink was ash all except for the piping. “I’m s-so s-sorry, I-I didn’t I uuhhh" I stuttered in shock still. “ There’s something else, but don’t freak out okay" she said as she got closer. She reached into her pocket and handed me a small compact mirror and waited for me to open it and look. I took it slowly out of fear of what I might see looking back at me. Am I badly burnt from the fire? I reluctantly opened the mirror and looked at the reflection. To say I was shocked was an understatement. Looking back at me was one bright emerald green eye and one glowing red eye. I screamed and threw the mirror up against the wall as hard as I could. “WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING TO ME!!!” I screamed at the top of my lungs. I hadn’t realized through my breakdown the swarm of nurses and a doctor had ran in. I felt a poke on my neck. My eyelids got heavy and my body eased up. I welcomed the darkness as an old friend as it swept over me.

JEFFS POV

I was walking up the long hallway of the pack hospital, as I was coming up to the nurses desk I over heard them speaking about someone. “ I don’t know Emily, but I think she’s a vampire spy sent here by the Vampire King to kill us one by one. Why else would she have one red eye?” one nurse spoke freely. I know that voice, it belonged to a she wolf Michelle, the one that thought for sure she was my mate. I stupidly entertained the idea of us being mates. Ever since I hit 17 and got my wolf and she ended up not being my mate, she’s attempted to convince me to take her on as my chosen mate. ‘how dare they talk about our mate like that! That’s their future Luna. You better teach them some respect before I do Jeffff` spat Alec. ‘I’ll handle it` I responded. “ Excuse me ladies. Is this what you do Michelle, you know instead of working? Gossip all day long about the patients you’re supposed to be helping?” “N-no I’m sorry” Michelle stammered with her head down in submission. “ I suggest you get back to work then before I have to speak with the head nurse about your violation of privacy towards a patient.”. As she ran down the hall to go check on more patients I turned my attention to Emily. She was my betas mate, also my twin sister, “ Emily I really expected better from you.” I said as I gave a look of disapproval at my twin sister. I was older by only 2 minutes but nevertheless I was still older. “ I know brother, I’m sorry. I know she’s your friend, but she really freaked me out today with shooting fire out her hands and her glowing red eye" Emily retorted. I looked at her in shock but quickly shook it away and quickly asked my sister what the hell happened while I was gone. As she filled me in on the nightmares and unprovoked magic Kiara was doing in her sleep I quickly realized that my mate needed help to control her powers. Once I was done I mind linked my father the Alpha to see if he knew where any of Kiara’s coven was located, if their were any left at all. He disclosed a remote location in the mountains of Colorado. I mind linked my beta to meet up with me, we needed to take a road trip quickly for the sake of my mate. Before I go I needed to see Kiara. As I reached for the door of the room she was staying I smelled fire. I opened the door and my jaw dropped, the room was destroyed and almost everything was burned to ash. ‘ woooww our mate is amazing said Alec with admiration in his voice. He was proud to call her our mate, me on the other felt a bit of fear. Not a fear of my mate but I feared for her life. She was powerful and there’s always someone going to want that power. Emily had come up behind me while I took in the sight of destruction. The once all blue room was now scorched with black on the walls. “ I told you your friend went crazy" she scoffed. I slowly turned my head and said “ my mate" “wwwhhhhaaaatt!?” she looked at me shocked. “where is she" I demanded to my sister. She didn’t say anything with her mouth still wide open she pointed down the hall. I walked towards where she pointed. As I got closer I could smell my mate, fresh lilacs. As I opened the door to her room I inhaled her beautiful scent. It instantly calmed my wolf and he began to purr in my mind. ‘ are you purring?!` ‘mmmm I can’t help it, mate smells so good, she makes me happy being near her`. I shook my head, he wasn’t wrong though. The more her supernatural side comes out the more I feel the mate pull with her. I wonder when she wakes up if she will feel it too. I stared at her as she slept. She looked so peaceful, so beautiful with her ivory skin and long dark eyelashes. She still had a faint smell of smoke but the smell of fresh lilacs over powered it still. Her long black wavy hair looked a bit greasy now but I don’t care, she’s the most beautiful girl I’ve ever seen. I hadn’t even realized I was caressing her cheek until I felt my fingertips fill with what felt like electricity. I moved her hair from her forehead and gave her a kiss. As I was pulling back her eyes shot open and I was met with one glowing emerald green eye and one glowing red eye. I was startled to see her eyes that color once more but tried my hardest to hold my composure so as not to frighten Kiara. “ I know I’m a freak!" Kiara said with her eyes swelling up with tears. I quickly stepped forward to comfort not even thinking I embraced her in a hug and let her know how beautiful she really is. Before I could say anything I felt the electricity again this time on my torso going down to my midsection. I looked at Kiara to see if she was feeling the same and she stared at me intently with a sinister smile. Her eyes started to glow even more. “hiiii mmmaattte” she said in a voice I didn’t recognize. ‘what the fuck is that?` ‘I don’t know but she sounds evil.` I told Alec as I stepped back from Kiara. Her eyes stopped glowing as much and she looked at me curiously and confused. “Why is it every time I wake up someone is staring at me like I’m an alien?!” retorted Kiara. I apologized profusely and explained to her I was just startled by her waking up so quickly. I was not about to tell her how something evil showed itself in her and claimed me as it’s mate. She didn’t need to know that YET. When she asked me about her grandparents I decided to hold off on telling her about them being brutally murdered by her father. Who knows what she would do with her powers out of control the way they are right now. She needs to learn how to control them first then I’ll tell her everything. I lied to her and said we put them up in a safe house out of state until it was safe for them to return. I informed her of her mother’s coven still being out there and the possibility of them being able to help her control them. She insisted to come with me and my beta, and I couldn’t find it in myself to refuse. Soon after my beta showed up in an all black SUV and we got in and headed to the airport.
