Chapter 2

I grabbed my keys from the dish on the entry table and headed out to my Bugatti. I clicked the unlock button and my drivers side lambo door flung open, allowing me to step inside and take a seat before closing. I set the keys down in the console and pressed my push to start, listening to the purring of those horses again. That was one of my favorite sounds. "Jarvis, call Shadow." I commanded, he obliged when the 20 inch digital display on the dash lit up. Seconds later a male appeared on the screen. “Checkmate.” I said, while holding up the chain with the ring attached to it in front of the camera so he could see. “Well done, Snow. You've outdone yourself. Your deposit will be in your bank by morning.” He said, and then he ended the call. Good, this was a $500,000 hit. He was somewhat of a high roller I guess. I shrugged it off. “Jarvis, navigate me to the nearest Academy.” I said. “As you wish, ma’am.” He replied, and we started heading that way.

I threw on a pair of black sunglasses even though it was 2:00am. I never actually drove this car, it drove itself so I didn't need to see anyways. I planned to just lie down and take a nap on the way there but I decided against it. "Jarvis, show me available contracts." I asked. "As you wish Ma'am." Jarvis replied. I looked at my screen as multiple new contracts appeared in a list. I scrolled through them slowly, reading the information regarding each one. "Dakwood huh? They are Royals. Hmm, offering 1 million for the hit… That should be an insane job. Ah, it's across the country. I'm definitely not in the mood to drive that far." I mumbled to myself as I kept scrolling through the available hits. "Ah, Vanderwood. Oh? This is a double hit. Looks like the man and his brother. Well, well, well, challenge accepted." I said out loud, as I pressed accept, and watched as file after file downloaded to my app. Now to study my prey. The GPS said I had an hour to the closest Academy, so I had time to do some research. "Jarvis, what can you tell me about the Vanderwood brothers?" I asked him. "The Vanderwood brothers are James and Joshua, twins by birth, with James being a minute older than Joshua. They grew up in France and moved to the states 300 years ago to form a colony here. They live at the Vanderwood estates in Maine, along with the rest of the Vanderwoods in the states and most of their colony." Jarvis said.

Shit, so these guys live in a colony? That would make it a lot harder to kill them. I would have to catch them outside of their home, and alone. Most likely individually as well. Not that I can't do it, it just makes it that much more of a challenge. Good thing I'll be getting paid for two hits when this is over. That makes it worth it. I have never missed a hit. Sometimes it takes me a little longer to achieve my checkmate, but I always get it. I spent the rest of the car ride doing my research on these brothers. But I was already tired from my last hit and my mind kept wandering making it hard to concentrate. I would have to resume this after I got some sleep. "Ma'am, we have arrived at The Academy." Jarvis cut through my thoughts. "Ah, good Thank you, Jarvis." I replied. I pulled out a pair of long lace gloves from my console and slipped them on. I stepped out and tossed the keys to the young boy working the Valet. "Not a scratch, kid." I purred while narrowing my eyes at him. He looked nervous. "Of course, Snow, I wouldn't dream of it." He replied. Hmm, he knows my name. That's not uncommon, I'm one of the top Hunters within The Academy. But still, it always surprises me when I'm traveling and they know my name. I shot a quick wink at the kid, whose face turned beet red as I walked towards the doors.

I had never visited this specific Academy location here in Pennsylvania, but it was just as gorgeous as the others. Everything was white, with large picture windows and tons of angled architecture. You could definitely tell this was a high class place, and if you were to walk in here unknowing of what you were walking into, I’m not even sure what you would actually think this place was. I eyeballed the multiple chandeliers adorning the high ceilings, and looked at the fancy decorations and paintings adorning the walls. My eyes fell onto the front desk where I could see a pretty little thing working. She looked young as well, and she was definitely eyeballing me as I walked up to her. “M-miss Snow, I-I can't believe you are here!” She stammered. I raised an eyebrow at the girl while reading her nametag. “Jenny, huh?” I said. She looked as if she were about to pass out in my presence. “Y-yes ma'am.” She said back shakily. I chuckled under my breath. “No need to panic dear, I just need a room for the night.” I said softly. She nodded her head and started typing my information, that she clearly had memorized, for whatever reason, into her computer. A few seconds later she slid me a room key. “If you need anything just call room service.” She said, and smiled at me. I took a second to admire her beauty. She may have been young, but she was gorgeous with her long blonde hair and neon green eyes. She had a little spatter of freckles across her nose and I definitely loved her pale skin. “Why don’t you come by my room later if you aren’t busy.” I said with a little wink, and then I turned and walked past her up the stairs. I swear I thought I heard her pass out and hit the floor behind me, but I didn’t turn around to see.

I was about halfway up the stairs when a sexy baritone voice rang out from behind me. “Well, if it isn’t the legendary Snow.” He said. I contemplated ignoring him, but decided against it. It may be late, but who was I to turn down an old friend? I stopped and slowly turned around, locking my black eyes onto Xaviers crystal blue ones. “Xavier, it’s been too long.” I purred. I remained in my place, as he walked up the stairs to greet me. I extended my gloved hand and he kissed it softly. I was thankful I had put my gloves on, I was not interested in reading his thoughts. In fact, I wasn't really interested in reading anyones thoughts. I rarely took my gloves off, except when hunting. I found that hearing thoughts while hunting was very beneficial, but any other time it was more of a nuisance. “And what brings you to the beautiful state of Pennsylvania?” Xavier purred. “What do you think?” I said back, I mean the answer was obvious. We were both clearly here for the same reason. He chuckled to himself. “Well of course, and where to next?” He asked. “Maine, actually. I will be leaving in the morning.” I said. “Maine, well that sounds interesting. Let me walk you to your room?” He asked. I smiled at him. “Sure.” I said while linking my arm within his.

“Rumor has it that you’re at 148 confirmed checkmates now, color me impressed.” Xavier said as we headed up the stairs. I was surprised that he would know that, but word does travel rather quickly around here. “You would be correct, and this doesn’t include those I've killed outside of hits.” I said with a smirk. ”Oh Snow, you always were an ambitious one.” He chuckled. We got to the door of my room and I released his arm. I tapped my keycard to the door causing it to swing open slowly. “Jarvis, turn my lights on, set my air conditioner to 70 degrees and run me a hot bath.” I said out loud. “Yes ma’am.” Jarvis replied and I could hear the water running inside. “Well, I’ll let you get to it. It was good to see you again, good luck on your next hit. The Vanderwood twins are going to be quite the challenge.” Xavier said, and then he turned and walked down the hall. I rolled my eyes, nothing gets by anyone apparently. I barely accepted the hit an hour ago and people already know about it. In this world, nothing is really a secret. There is one thing they don’t know though, they don’t know what my gift from The Academy is. There is no way to tell, and they can’t force me to reveal it. I never have, I have kept it a secret since I realized what it was. It’s the only thing I have complete control of, the only thing no one can take from me, or force me to use. It's the only thing I have that is truly mine.

I walked into my room, closing the door behind me. I pulled off my gloves, and set them on the table. My heels followed. “Jarvis, turn on the jets in the tub.” I asked. “Your will is done, Snow.” He replied. “Thank you.” I said back, and slipped out of my dress, letting it fall to the floor. I walked over to the bathtub, pulled my hair up, and searched the bathroom cabinet for hair pins. They always provided them as this is what I requested. The Academy has locations all over the world, and in order to keep its members comfortable no matter where they may be, they provide your specific amenities. So it doesn’t matter what location I go to, once I check in, the room will be prepared with the amenities I have chosen and requested. I can change my request at any time through my app or using Jarvis. We all have an artificial intelligence that assists us. Mine is Jarvis, taken from Iron Man of course. Who doesn’t love a little Tony Stark?

I can access my assistant from any of my digital devices. This includes my car, my phone, my watch, my hotel room. He is programmed into everything I own in order to have easy access. Honestly, he may be my only real friend. Computer or not. You’d be surprised how lonely this life can get. I just stay busy and I don’t have to worry about it though. I slipped into the bath and let my body soak. Not that I needed to get clean, but the hot water felt so good on my muscles. I always loved a hot bath before going to bed. I felt myself slipping into sleep, and decided it might be best to cut this bath a little short before I drown by accident. “Jarvis, wake me up at 10:30am” I said while getting out and drying off. “Yes ma’am, sleep well.” He replied. I fell asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow

Jarvis’s chipper voice rang out, jarring me from my luckily dreamless sleep. “No Jarvis, I will have the valet boy grab it. Thank you.” I mumbled, while sitting up and rubbing the sleep from my eyes. We had a long drive ahead, and I wasn’t really ready for it. Maine was a few states away and I wasn’t looking forward to the multi day drive I was about to endure. I know it was only 10 hours away but I planned to stop in between so it was going to take a bit. I got out of bed and wandered to the closet, pulling out a black dress that was eerily similar to the one I was wearing last night, which sat crumpled on the floor still. No need to worry, I had another in my closet at any given time. I

Chapter 4I have no idea how long it had been that we had been driving, but Jarvis informed me that we were low on gas and needed to fuel up. So we pulled into the closest Maverik. I started the fuel and then walked inside to grab something to eat. Gas station food wasn’t that healthy, but luckily Maverik had salads and other relatively healthy options. I opted for some boiled eggs, a cobb salad and some string cheese. On the way out I noticed a Vasa gym across the street. “Jarvis, it’s time for a pit stop, take me to that Vasa right there.” I said. “As you wish ma’am.” He replied, and we drove over there. I got out of my car and walked to my trunk, clicking the button on my keys to open it. I had a duffel bag full of clothes and shoes, accessories, just things I may need when I can't get to The Academy. I had a pair of yoga high waisted shorts and a sports bra, both black of course. I grabbed those and a pair of socks with my running shoes. I placed them into a smaller bag I had in t

Chapter 5He quickly paid for lunch, how considerate of him. He was obviously in a hurry to attempt to murder me. I rolled my eyes to myself as we walked out of the restaurant, and he started walking towards his car. “Hey, why don't you let me drive?” I asked. He looked at me with a confused look on his face, as if I had said something completely foreign to him. In all reality I just threw a wrench in his plan. I’m sure he had the perfect place to take me, but I think the place I have planned is better. “I know of a cool place close to here that we can go to. I saw it on the map on the way here. I will bring you back when we are done." I said, with a wink. He sucked in a breath and nodded, following me to the back of the building. "Jarvis, bring the car to my location." I said. "Yes ma'am." Jarvis replied and I could hear my car start from across the parking lot. The sound of those horses gave me goosebumps. I had always loved sports cars, ever since I was a kid. My car pulled up and

Chapter 6I shot up from my sleep, covered in a thin layer of sweat. “Ma’am, your heart rate is elevated, are you ok?” Jarvis purred through the speakers in my car. Just the sound of his voice calmed me down, it helped me come back to reality. “Yes Jarvis, thank you.” I said, and adjusted my seat so I was sitting up. It was dark and we were on a thin stretch of road with no other traffic. I rubbed my hands on my face for a moment trying to shake the feeling of that leeches fangs inside my neck. I ran my fingers across the area where the bandage was from my kill earlier. I was surprised that the leech I just killed hadn't asked about it. I guess it was a little lower on my neck, but it was definitely visible. He must have thought it was rude to ask and didn't bother. How kind of him, ha. I thought, with a snort. I peeled the bandage off and pulled my rearview mirror down to look at the mark. It actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Once I get to The Academy I could use their

Chapter 7I grabbed my phone and winced at the pain in my shoulder, which I realized was still bleeding. “Jarvis, please bring the car to my location.” I said. “Of course, ma’am.” He said back, and I could hear my car start and head my way. He pulled up and my driver's side lambo door opened. There was no way I was getting in my car covered in blood and still bleeding. Do you know how hard it is to get blood out of my upholstery? Yea, not doing that again. I clicked the trunk button on my keys and walked back to the trunk, setting my guns and knife on top of my smaller gym bag. I opened my duffel bag and pulled out a small medical kit. I grabbed some gauze and pressed it on my wound, applying pressure for a bit until the bleeding calmed down. Then I got some salve that The Academy provided and put it on the bite mark, covering it with a clean set of gauze and using an ace bandage to wrap it on my shoulder. Then I pulled out another black dress, carefully setting it aside so it didn’t

  • The Hunter   Chapter 8

Chapter 8I headed inside and noted that this Academy was very similar to the one in Pennsylvania decor wise, but it was much larger. There were two front desks on this one, and even at this early morning hour there were other hunters checking in. I knew Maine was a contract hotspot but I had never ventured this far before. I never had the opportunity or really needed to until now. I walked up and got in line at the far right front desk, waiting to check in. Someone walking by me ended up brushing against my arm, but luckily I still had my gloves on from earlier, so I didn’t get any reads on his mind. Honestly it was a curse more than a gift. Always knowing what was on people's minds was exhausting. As much as I loved it, and used it to my advantage when Hunting, I wish I could turn it on and off at will. It would be so nice to just have skin contact with someone and be completely in the dark about what they were thinking. My mind was racing and I didn’t even realize it was my turn ne

Chapter 9If I thought I turned heads on a normal basis, you should have seen the neck breaking that was going on right now as I walked through the halls of The Academy. It was a lot busier than when I originally arrived and I definitely was causing a scene. Good, my outfit was having the intended effect. I needed it too so I could ensure my kills tonight. The better I looked, the easier it would be to seduce those twins. "Jarvis, bring the car around." I said knowing full well that I would need the keys from the valet still. I walked out the doors and over to the valet who was a young boy with dark brown hair and eager eyes. "Snow, here, let me get your car." He said, as he went into the booth to grab my keys. "I just need the keys, kid." I said, as my car pulled up and stopped right in front of us. I winked at the kid whose jaw was sitting on the floor, and then pressed the button to open my lambo door, stepping inside. “Jarvis, take me to the Vanderwood ball.” I said. “Yes Ma’am.”

Chapter 10I reciprocated his kiss, acting like I was interested by threading my hand through his soft blonde hair. He pulled away briefly to look into my eyes. “You are so fucking beautfiul.” He growled, and continued to kiss me as he pushed me towards the bed. Once we got there I realized the other brother, who I assumed was Joshua, was waiting for us. James pushed me onto the bed and straight into Joshua's arms. He grabbed me and positioned me onto his lap straddling him. I knew this was to better the position for the bite that he was sure to give me here soon. He smashed his lips into mine picking up where his brother left off. His thoughts had completely shifted, which made me realize just how maniacal his mind really was. He was planning on keeping me locked up in his secret dungeon that was behind his bookcase. This way he could take me anytime he chooses. I was repulsed, fucking leech! Ugh, but I acted like I didn’t hear his thoughts of course, and deepened our kiss. I felt Ja

Epilogue(Snow)Damien took my hand in his as we locked eyes. “Are you ready?” He asked. I nodded then looked back at my mother who smiled at me. Today was our funeral, and against my wishes Damien had sweet talked me into attending. Not that we could see the whole thing, but what kind of funeral would it be if we weren't there at least for a moment? That argument to me seemed silly, but Damien was gung ho about it. We tuned into the funeral proceedings. I was surprised to see Jericho leading them. It had only been a week since we had passed on and I knew he was still a new Vampire. The amount of control he was showing around a room full of potential food, was impressive. I wanted to hug my friend and tell him how proud of him I was for his progress. I turned my head to check out the room from Jericho’s view. That’s when my mother gasped out loud. I almost copied her when I saw the sheer amount of people who were in attendance. Every single seat in the entire place was filled. There

I can have the coroner there in a half hour.” He replied. “Thank you, Clark. Truly, thank you, my friend.” I said, before hanging up the phone. I looked at Jericho and nodded. He nodded back to me. I walked over to Max’s body and pulled Snow’s knife from Max’s chest. I walked over to Jericho while Xavier grieved over my gifted mate. “Do not feed from him, he needs to stay alive. Chapter 78Xavier ignored us both and kept trying to find a way around the barrier. It was no use, I couldn’t even penetrate it. I could still feel Snow, but it was pointless trying to get inside. I sent Xavier home after a few hours and just kept coaching Jericho down, and helping him to understand his Vampire tendencies. He was going to struggle with this, just like I did. Which was normal. Snow, on the other hand, was a unicorn. She barely struggled and was able to keep her composure easily. It was her powers that she struggled with and I knew this. I wanted to know what the hell Max was doing to her to cause me to not be able to feel the gifted mate bond anymore. Jericho needed sleep and even though I didn't plan to sleep, I knew I needed to as well, otherwise tomorrow was going to be a lot harder. It was just too hard to sleep with my gifted mate in danger. And I knew she was in danger, I could feel it. I sent Jericho back to the house, but threatened him not to eat another perso

I started making preparations immediately after her departure. “Jericho, you still here?” I called out from the hallway. He poked his head out of his room a few doors down. “What’s up boss?” He said. “It’s time.” I replied, and I watched him stiffen and pull his head back into the doorway, coming out a second later without his equipment. He walked up to me and nodded. ‘I’m ready.” He said. I ushered him into my room and over to my desk while I rifled through papers until I found the will. Chapter 76I looked over at my mom with wide eyes. “See, I told you.” She said with a laugh. I smiled, this place was so strange. I looked out the window as we drove. Everything looked the same as before I died. The town was the same, I was still in Maine, still close to Damien. It baffled me that I hadn’t ended up somewhere else. “How does it decide where you end up? Like why am I here, in Maine still? And not home in Nevada?” I asked. My mother shrugged. “I guess it knows where your unfinished business is.” She said. My heart sank as we pulled into the resort that Max was staying at. I knew exactly where Damien was, and I wasn’t sure if I was ready to walk up there and see him like this. I knew full well that he had found my body, and he would be absolutely distraught. My mother had always been a mind reader, I swear. “This is where you were killed?” She said, as if she knew exactly what I was thinking. I nodded. “I killed myself on accident, actually. Chapter 75I found myself in the front foyer of The Academy, covered in someone else’s blood. I briefly recalled the events that I believe led me here, but they were a blur. My heart ached at the loss of my fake life. It was just a physical pain, I knew that what I had in the real world was better, much better than anything Max could have given me, but my mind was still jumbled from his hallucination. My thoughts then strayed to Damien. I was relieved that he would be safe in my real life. No matter what this place is, no matter what happened to me, he would be safe now with Max dead. That, I was sure of. My thoughts vanquished when I snapped back to reality, or whatever this was. I was in line behind a few others. These were Hunters I recognized, friends and foes. People I had grown up with, people I had spent my life working with. No one was talking, and everyone looked as beat up as I did. The line slowly moved but I couldn’t hear anything that was being said at the front desk. It

But… We need food.” He said, putting his finger to my lips. “I’ve got something you can eat.” I said, with a smirk. Within seconds he had me pinned up against the wall next to the closet and smashed his lips into mine. I knew that would get him. At this rate we would never eat, or leave this room. I decided to play hard to get, switch things up a little. I snaked out of his grasp and took off running across the room. I smirked when I heard Max’s growl at my escape and I could feel his feet padding on the floor behind me. I felt like he was letting me get a head start, I knew he was much faster than I was.
