Mike sat on his verandah as he read the morning newspaper. Quite normal for him to read newspapers on Saturdays when he was outside Zades. It was his first time spending a full day in his new house since he had arrived than in his brother's house.
Well his house was a sight to behold because it was indeed a beautiful one. A bungalow painted with red white, and black, it was surrounded by beautiful flowers unending.
There was a beautiful brown rug just before the door. Velvet drapes framed the windows, the lace inner curtains remained drawn, allowing daylight to enter while rendering the heart-stopping view over the city a blur.
The veranda stretched the entire frontage of the house. The smell the freshness of the white paint was an evidence that he had painted the house not that long. Actually he had bought the house and had remade it according to his taste. Susanne had helped with the furnitures by going shopping in his stead.
He sighed when he saw an article on Zades hospital. It stated that there is a new Doctor who is believed to be Mike Harrison. It further said he was a very good Doctor compared to Ben Harrison as he had saved seven lives in a week. He dropped the paper he was reading in surprise. News really spread fast and they comparing his brother with him makes him even more surprised. Now the full city will know that he has returned.
It was not even a big deal anyways because he was very popular seven years ago and so it will not be surprising if he even appeared on the front cover of the newspaper. Well he had seen himself in the front of the Zades Magazine a million times when he was still living a care-free life. Rape, murder, Party Lord, those were the names given to him by the public then. But now, seeing himself on the newspaper as a Doctor saving lives made him proud of himself. For the first time in his life he felt he has accomplished something.
His mind further drifted to the events that had transpired during his first week at Zades. He had met old friends and new ones alike, including Marcus, his guy of a friend. That man will not always cease to amaze him, always the guy who would go to any length to get a guy you befriend. He is gay if that is what you are thinking.
He also met some of the women he had played and some chicks he had fun with. He could not believe he had even controlled himself for more than seven years. He was so addicted to sex that he fucked women six times a day. Now he felt disgusted merely thinking about what he used to do. He was not at all interested in that now. He would have taken the mouth-watering offer Clyra, one of his numerous chicks then but he politely declined. He was not the Mike then but now, he just did not seem to want to fuck a woman.
After what he had done to Susanna he never had the will to touch any other woman, he does not know why exactly. Even if he wanted to, her innocent eyes and cute face he had seen when he had taken her innocence will always hunt him, making him to push the woman he wanted to have fun with away.
He remembered that day clearly like it was yesterday, all he had done to her that faithful night. Whenever he had the thoughts he just pushed them away because the events of that night made him feel so guilty.
It still hunted him till this very day.
And for that reason he wanted her forgiveness because that will only be what will give him his ever craving peace of mind. Why does he even crave for her forgiveness? He could just go on with his life and live as if nothing has ever happened.
He could just ignore her and continue his life whether she forgives him or not. But those eyes, those tears of pain! It makes him so guilty. He just has to find a way to make up with her and at least, support her if that could put a smile on her face.
How he was going to do that clouded his thoughts as he stood up from his chair and made his way into the house.
Some moments later he was on his bed, responding to the immense call of nature.

Life was going all well for Mike, and he has hell of a deal contributed to the running of the hospital. It was not that long before news of Mike's skills spread out through Zades and beyond. People now flood the hospital daily either to see the Doctor with 'Magic hands' or undergo a surgery successfully which will always be performed by him. Ben was very proud of his brother because for the first time, he had seen his brother so buried in work instead of moving around causing havoc.
Women are always seen around, because they wanted to try their luck to gain the man's love because he was handsome, very rich and very popular.
Everyone knew Mike then so it was quite a surprise when some people had found out about him being around, some had come to know the location of Mike's house through Ben's given directions. People like Mr and Mrs Polly, who were their relatives had come to visit Mike. Other relatives and close friends alike also came to welcome him back to Zades.
This also helped the hospital as some people will want to visit the hospital just to see Mike, especially the girls and women who has had a crush on him or flirted with him seven years before. Well you know what they came to the hospital for, as all they wanted was to catch a wealthy man like Mike himself but this time their plan was not at all quite successful as he either politely sent them away.
On one occasion, Melissa, one of the girls he had dated back then had come to his office, and even had the audacity to flaunt with him by sitting down on his desk sexily trying to woo him. He was glad his brother had come in at that moment because he would have shown her what it felt like to be discharged and embarrassed.
š
It was one of those baby-blue skies, not the psychedelic candy-blue nor the washed out grey so characteristic of wintry mornings. The clouds were as puffs of radiant joy, ready to disperse into the wind, to travel our Earth. At times Mike turns to his window and watched them, pure reflected rays dappled and swirling with sky, until all that remained was that perfect baby-blue, the same hue as before, as if inviting those born of wing to ride warm thermal air heaven-bound.
Mike had seen all of his patients and was on his lunch break. He was about to order the cleaner to go get him some food when Ben came into his office. He had asked him if he would love to eat at the only restaurant in Zades which was not that far from the hospital.
Mike, having not been to the place before agreed. They had gone into his car and Ben had given him directions to this restaurant.

Susanna sighed as she walked from the kitchen which was just behind the fancy restaurant to the almost-filled restaurant.
Madam Shereiki's restaurant was full. She looked around at the busy tables. An old couple eating side by side, one glass of wine each, studiously bent over their meals. A group of young women in their thirties collapsing with helpless giggles as a stern woman dining alone nearby looked on and frowned. Businessmen in their grey suits lighting up cigars. American tourists, trying to decipher the menu. A family and their teenage children. The noise level was high. The smoke level, too.
But it didnāt bother her one bit.
She was used to it.
"What are you doing here?" Madam Shieriki asked as she walked up to Susanna, anger quite evident in the woman's eyes.
The woman was clearly old but fighting it every step of the way. Her hair is jet black and the white skin of her face looks too tight. Her lips have been fattened and her eyelashes are false. What she cannot hide is the redistribution of her body fat. Even with countless hours of hot yoga which Susanna have seen her doing, her waist was thicker and stomach more relaxed. Susanna was at the point that the more effort she made to appear youthful, the worse she would look. She was asking wicked, stingy and annoying as her looks.
"I was checking if there was any other customer to serve"
"Is that your work Susanna? Checking them as if they are babies? I see that you are dodging work that is why. You have been late twice this week"
"Madam i explained......"
"Explained what? Using your daughter as bait? All you want to do is skip work and you think i will pay you fully? Well make sure you get it in your skull that i will not pay you well this month as a result of your attitude"
"But...."
"Now get back to work before i lower your pay. Useless thing!"
Taking a deep sigh, she walked back into the kitchen. She did not know why that woman likes to give her a reason to become more miserable. She did not have a choice but to work here judging by the fact that there is no other job in Zades that can employ her since she does not have an education.
Many more customers will be coming and she had to be prepared. She helped the cook in arranging the dishes since Madam Shieriki had ordered her to do it.

Ben took in on the building before him as he parked his car in the driveway.
The yellow and red colours at the restaurant made the place look even more beautiful as he admired, even after coming out of his car. When he was a little boy, he had wondered why all restaurants he had always been in always use red and yellow paints for their building and even interior decorations.
This made him to search online for the reason why these two colours were chosen only in restaurants. After searching the internet, he had found some theories.
The most likely theory is that there is a study on the effect of colours on human soul, where the red colour tends to open the appetite while the yellow color gives a sense of happiness and familiarity with the place and people. It is the brightest color in the daylight, making it easy to recognize the restaurant from a distance which causes a person to think of returning to the restuarant again. He followed Ben as they both walked into the restaurant, not without Ben greeting the people he knew.
The interior decorations were amazing. In face it was hardly describable. Taking a table just close to the wall at the left end of this stylist restaurant, Mike looked around to admire his surroundings again. From his seat he had a view of the entrance, only couples came and left.
"This place is cool bro" Mike said to his brother as he smiled.
"That is why it is the only restaurant in Zades. Any other restaurant will be shut down because everyone in Zades likes this place.
"Ben" Someone called his brother as they both turned around.
"Aunt and Uncle Polly! It is so nice to see you" Ben said as he stood up smiling at them. Mike still sat down but smiled, knowing quite well that they were not in good terms back then.
"Mike! I am finally glad to see you. You have grown into a handsome young man! I had tried to visit you but when we arrived at your place, you were not around. I am really very happy for you, you are doing well and people love you now. I am glad you are back as a changed man"
"Thank you Aunt Polly. I am glad to be back too" Mike said as he gave a smile.
"Where did you go to and why did you come back?"
"I went to explore and came back to make amends and stay. I do not want to talk about this aunt"
"Ok son, i understand"
Mike heaved a sigh as he took one of the menu which was on the table. He hated discussions, especially if it concerns his past life. The others took each a menu. Uncle Polly, who had been talking to Ben called for the waiter who took all their orders. Regardless of what was there he would be ordering butter chicken and pilau rice. Ben ordered the same too while the old couple ordered only coffee.
He closed his eyes as he let herself soak in the ambient music for a few moments, not minding what his aunt, uncle and brother were talking about, wondering what the words were and drinking in the fragranced air.
"Mike, what about marriage? I thought maybe you will have someone to spend your life with" Uncle Polly spoke to him for the first time as Mike felt the constant stares on him.
He sighed as he opened his eyes. He knew where this conversation was going to and he really did not want to discuss it at all.
"I do not have the intention of getting married neither have i found my soulmate yet so till then, i remain single"
"You are getting older Mike and times go by very quickly. You need someone by your side and children too"
Well he will not argue about that, although he was just thirty-four. He did not at all feel like getting married now at least, he still has his own life to live before catering for his future wife and children.
"I know i am not getting younger. I will soon, when find a woman that i am ok with but for now, i stay single "
Mike gasped as he saw someone who he knew so well. Was it she?
Standing at the counter with a tray of food was Susanna. She was talking to a staff. And why was she dressed like all the other waiters in the restaurant?
Susanna Brownwell.
What was she doing here?
Susanna was helping in the kitchen when an order was brought. She was given the food and also given the table number so she could know where it needed to be delivered. She walked out but was stopped by another fellow waiter by the counter who had told her about a particular well-to-do customer who would be coming later this evening. She nodded, paying steady attention to what the woman was saying. When she was done, Susanna carried to food to the table 26 which was the table she had to deliver the food. Her eyes locked with his eyes as she stared at him in surprise.Mike? What was he doing here?Unfortunately for her, the table Mike was sitting on was the same table she was sent to deliver the food. Her eyes never left his as she walked to the table and dropped the food.No one feature makes Mike so handsome, He was handsome from the depth of his eyes to the gentle expressions o
The kitchen was sleek, professionally designed, bespoke, with granite counters, stainless steel appliances. It was very spotless, and expertly scrubbed, well equipped, utensils on hooks, matching cups uncluttered, clean folded tea towel, gentle swish from the dishwasher, and an efficient hum of refrigerator. Dried flowers hung from beams with a professional knife block, nothing superfluous, minimalistic.Susanna's eyes drip with tears as she washed the dishes. Her walls, the walls that hold her up, which makes her strong just... collapse. Moment by moment, they fall. Salty drops fall from her chin, drenching her shirt. Perhaps these tears will help wash the pain out. She pressed my head against the wall. She was trembling. She could not stop. Even as she press her hand on the plates it shakes, it trembles. It's raw, everything, raw tears, raw emotions. She couldn't stop... She just could not stop. Why can she not stop crying? All her life she
Ben sank into his forties like a favourite old armchair. He felt like this age was where he was supposed to be. Reminiscing his youth with his wife was fun, but he wasn't wishing to go back there. Those were crazy times, anxious times, building a career and financing a home. The hectic life of school had given way to the social whirl of peers but in general life had slowed to a more sedate pace. Now he was Head of the Medical Department in the only Medical Hospital in Zades. He ran the soccer-club sometimes in summer when he was on Easter break, played golf and volunteered to helping his community, which was Zades.Everywhere he went he was greeted by ex classmates, friends, teachers and other people he had met in other works of life, many of whom were in his classes themselves years before. He didn't mind the white hair that lay snowy against his white skin, he wasn't bothered about taking his belt out a few notches
Seven years ago.........The sun was bright and early. It's rays, like fingers stretching across the darkened sky, bring with it a new day. Gradually, the sun fills the sky with its brilliance and a warm glow. ... The fiery ball of light rising from the horizon, colored the sky in shades of orange and yellow. The piercing sound of the alarm clock brought Susanna back from the dead of sleep. She started to wriggle and stretch within her little cosy, warm, haven that is she calls her bed. As parts of her body were gradually turning on, she realised today was the day she starts her new job. She wakes up with a start and lifts reluctantly lifts her head off the pillow, squinting against the gossamer light flirting through the window. She sighed again as she leaned over at the bulky black clock which was on the wall. She was already ten minutes late on her first day. She quickly stood up and en
Her thought were blank. What a strange occurrence! Normally her thoughts were always twisting and turning; suffocating her with their whispers. When she is always alone, her thoughts will always turn into tormentors, a torture only escapable by sleep... which had become fleeting. But then she had realized that if she never "replied," if she lets them float by like a call unanswered, then in time they would cease.Always they became a little worse, yet soon they ebbed. This night while on bed she noticed they were gone and just the noticing brought them back a little, but only a faint echo of what they had been. They are gone now and she did not know why but she was glad they were gone. Those terrifying thoughts! Her mind was quiet, healthy, and happy for the first time since she was eight. Just like any bully, they go when ignored. She knew he was the reason. The god she had seen back at the bar. His face seemed so glued to her memory that she
Susanna smiled as she met his gaze, his eyes portraying shock and worry. She did not know why he seemed so worried but all she wanted to do was to repay him for all he had done for her that night."Please stay"She whispered as she stepped closer, reaching out to the hands that once reassured her that her world was safe, holding it with her two hands. She clutched at his long and straight fingers anyway, letting the warmth and softness of her own hands let him know she was there to help in anyway possible. She did not know why but she felt safe with this man. She will not deny the fact that she will be happy if he stays in this 'lonely cabin' she calls a home with her, even if it was just for a night."I do not know.......""Take it as an offer from a friend" She said as she squeezed his hand tighter."OK, if you do insist" He reluctantly said as he smiled."G
Susanna bit her lips as she could not sleep. All she could think of was the good looking man in her house. She closed her eyes and opened them again. Why can't she sleep? She got up and decided to go get some water from the kitchen. Taking slow steps she approached the door of the room he was in."Maybe he is asleep" She thought as she made her way towards the kitchen but was surprised to see him standing there pouring some water into a cup."You're still awake?" His voice makes her jolt and shiver. Why does he have this effect on her?"I...I'm just finding it hard to sleep" She says, trying to act normal but inwardly she could not control herself. His handsomeness is one thing, but the way he carries himself like a god makes him seem more attractive, and to help did she want to put her hand into his hair. She badly wanted to touch his muscles and feel them. She wanted to taste his lips and for t
The sky was black tranquility married to a poetry of stars. It was the softness that called body and brain to rest and let the heart go to its steady rhythm. Night came as a reward of sorts, a restfulness above to calm the soul. The night was a special kind of blackness, the kind that wants only to hold the stars and help them to shine all the brighter. It was a warm black that hugged you no matter what, and within it's safety He could feel his own soul all the more clearly, that innocent inborn spark as he drove into the still night at about 9pm in the night. He had gotten home before but really didn't feel like staying or sleeping. He wanted to go out for a drive and enjoy the still and cold night.Breathing deeply, he inhaled the cool air as it also gave it skin a cool touch. It was such a cool and maybe would be a memorable one for him.Mike sighed as thoughts came rushing in his head, making his head whil

Just because I wear a lab coat, people often think Iām just another doctor and forget that I also own the hospital. I donāt mind, but when I mean business, I will not be ignored.Amelia sighs and turns aroun
EllisWho does Rainier think he is?I ask myself the question as I tack a smiling reindeer to my bedroom door, replacing the sunflowers.I know heās an esteemed neurosurgeon whoās been in practice for several years now. I know heās my boss and the owner of the hospital I work in. I know I slept with him. That doesnāt mean he knows me, though, and that definitely doesnāt give him the right to say I donāt deserve to be a doctor.I let out a deep breath.Fine. Maybe I shouldnāt have said the same thing to him. I didnāt mean it anyway. I was just so upset that even though heās so rich, he wonāt do a pro bono surgery on one patient. Heās alr
RainierāTom.ā I hold my friendās gaze. āEverythingās fine. I was just trying to explain to Smithson here why I kicked her off my service today.āI glance at Ellis, who lets go of my arm and says nothing.āIs that so?ā Tom crosses his arms over his chest. āCare to share that reason with me?āāSure. Her mind just seems elsewhere today. Thatās all.āTom looks at Ellis. āWell, given the fact that you gave that poor man in the ER four stitches too many, I have to agree. Is something wrong, Smithson? Youāve been doing well until today.āāIām fine, Chief,ā Ellis answers, though without much confidence.Tom sighs. āWell, at any rate, you know attending physicians have the right to kick interns and even residents off their service. Although I do encourage them to provide their subordinates with plenty of chances for learning, even second chances, con
EllisRainier?I stare at him with eyebrows arched. My arms hang at my sides. I feel like all the blood has been drained from my face, from my limbs, from my whole body, all rushing to my heart, which feels like itās about to explode from my chest at any second. It is Rainier. Those dark brown eyes are the same pools of melted chocolate I gazed into in between the most incredible kisses Iāve ever had. Those jet black curls are the same ones I tugged on while heā¦ well, I donāt want to remember that right now.My point is, itās Rainier, the same man I had Thanksgiving dinner and even more delicious sex with, except now he looks like a doctor, with the white coat and the black scrubs underneath. RainierAs soon as we step inside Ellisās apartment, I place my hand on the back of her head and press my lips against hers. Iāve already taken off my coat in the elevator, so now I just let it fall to the floor.I pull her bonnet off. My fingers get lost in her hair and clutch a few tendrils as my lips crash down on hers over and over. Her hands grip my scarf and the frame of her glasses bumps against my nose as she kisses me back. The moan that escapes her throat echoes in my crotch.Itās not the best lip lock. Itās clumsy, like how she flirted with me. Messy. The edges of her teeth graze against my lower lip. Ellis clearly hasnāt had much practice. Either that or sheās lacking finesse because of that half glass of wine. Or maybe itās just nerves. She certainly seemed to have them on the way here. At any rate, I
āIāll do it,ā I tell her. āIāll sing for you.āHer eyes grow wide. āYou can sing?āI nod. āWhat song is it?āāāWhat Child Is This?'ā she answers.āI know it.āI probably know every Christmas song by heart.āYouāll bring her to the hospital?ā I ask Mr. Piercing Dark Eyes.āSure,ā he answers.I leave the caroler to him and make my way up the platform. The other carolers seem surprised to see me, but they turn their faces forward and continue singing. I sing along. When the opening notes of āWhat Child Is This?ā start to play, I brace myself and start to sing as best as I can. I havenāt sung in public in a while, but thankfully, I still remember the lessons I learned when I was in the choir back in middle school. I just square my shoulders, tuck my stomach in, and open my mouth. My voice rings through the air, and after I hit the first few notes, the rest goes smoothly. When Iām done singing, I hear applause but I donāt have time to
EllisāHappy Thanksgiving, Smithson.āDr. Amelia Carverās voice jars me out of my step-by-step recollection of the tonsillectomy I scrubbed in on just a few hours ago.I canāt help it. Since the first moment I stepped inside an OR, my mind has been stuck there, and until Iām actually spending most of my time there, it will be. Itās like when youāre watching a TV series one episode at a time. You keep thinking about the last one and wondering what will happen in the next. On the other hand, if you binge watch, thereās no room for anxiety, just anticipation. You just keep going from one episode to another, getting lost in the flow until time has passed you by.God, I canāt wait to binge on surgeries, but right now, Iām just an intern, so I have to take what scraps off the table I can get and try not to piss off any of the resident

He was happy when he had heard that she was coming back the next day. He smiled as he saw Hannah gleaming with joy. She was sure happy to see her mother again. He took her out and they did some shopping together, Hannah choosing what she wanted to give to her mother. Well most of them were chocolates, ice cream and cakes.Just when they were done with shopping, Mike spotted a very beautiful ring just at a jewellery shop.It seemed more like a diamond and a sapphire joined together. It contains two interlocking rows of channel-set diamonds and gorgeous sapphires. The sapphire has a strong intense shade of bright blue that exhibit great brilliance and wonderful sparkle. One elegant row contains sixteen full cut diamonds totaling approximately twenty-five carats. It will look so beautiful on Susanna's finger. Especially now that he had planned to get all serious after she has come back from wherever she went to. It was the only way to keep her a
