Susanna was helping in the kitchen when an order was brought. She was given the food and also given the table number so she could know where it needed to be delivered.
She walked out but was stopped by another fellow waiter by the counter who had told her about a particular well-to-do customer who would be coming later this evening. She nodded, paying steady attention to what the woman was saying.
When she was done, Susanna carried to food to the table 26 which was the table she had to deliver the food. Her eyes locked with his eyes as she stared at him in surprise.
Mike?
What was he doing here?
Unfortunately for her, the table Mike was sitting on was the same table she was sent to deliver the food. Her eyes never left his as she walked to the table and dropped the food.
No one feature makes Mike so handsome, He was handsome from the depth of his eyes to the gentle expressions of his face, though his eyes come close. People often speak of the colour of eyes, as if that were of importance, yet his would be beautiful in any shade. From them comes an intensity, an honesty, a gentleness.
Perhaps this is what is meant by a gentleman, not one of weakness or trite politeness, but one of great spirit and noble ways. What he is, what is beautiful about him, comes from deep within; it makes me want to feel how his lips move in a kiss, how his hands follow the curves of her body. As each year passes she grew in hatred for him, but seeing him now made her want to drool. He will be more handsome still, as if his soul shines through his skin.
"Snap out of it Susanna. This was the man that had dumped you and left you with a baby to only care for. Do not fall for him again" She told herself as she tried to gain her composure.
Then she removed her gaze from him.
"Hello Susanna, how are you?" Ben, whom she had not noticed was with Mike asked, jilting her from her thoughts.
"O...Oh! Do..Doctor Ben. Good Afternoon" She greeted as she smiled at him, ignoring the man who sat beside him and also noticing the elderly couple who were staring at her with disgust. She knew they are among the much people who see her as a witch that killed her own parents. They have never liked her so she had always gotten accustomed to the deathly glare she has always been given by people like them .
"Well he never existed to me, so i will treat him like the fool he is" she thought as she talked to Ben.
š
Mike bit his lips as he admired Susanna. She was still beautiful, she always looked beautiful, more beautiful than he could ever describe.
Susanna was young, white and beautiful. She had blond hair with shiny highlights, nowhere near the point of being gold. It lay on her shoulders like a waterfall flowing mildly; flaming as bright as a sunrise. The breeze blew through her curls, straightening them into waves that whipped about behind her. From under side bangs shone eyes the colour of a dazzling emerald blue, which travelled uneasily from him to his brother. He could not help but notice that they glistened every time she moved them. They were the ones that seemed to draw him into a daze; not letting him go. Her eyes seemed to shine in the sunlight, but maybe it hid in the darkness. Below them is a nose so freckled that the brown splotches overlapped much like autumn leaves after harsh winds blew. Her smile was warm with a hint of shyness and her lips were like a frozen rose, so beautiful that he wanted to know how it felt like when he kiss her.
He had to rip his eyes away from her when he could not get enough of her beauty. Why was he thinking this dirty about her? He had not even thought that way for a woman for a whole seven years. Why now? He felt sorry for what he had done to her but this thing he feels about her is on another level. He looked at her again as their eyes locked but she looked away quickly. There was sunshine in her smile and and her voice went right to his brain like a shot of single malt. Her clothes were so casual, the ubiquitous look all the university girls had: tight jeans, wide necked sweater and cute brown boots. So how come on her those same clothes garbled his brain to much, stopping him from stringing a simple sentence together; like, "Hey, wanna get a coffee?" How hard could that be?
He observed as Ben started talking to her. His face flushed pink. How could he be admiring her that way when there is an unsettled misunderstanding between them.
A misunderstanding that needed to be settled.
Breathing down so deeply, he said what he thought won't come out of his mouth.
"Hello Susanna"
He had noticed her frown as he called her name, knowing she was a little upset about it. She turned to him and gave him a look of disgust.
But she put on a smile which Mike knew was fake and said an Hi. At least she said something.
"You are the cursed girl. Why do you serve us. Go serve your witches and come demons not us" Mike seems surprised as he looked at his Aunt Polly whom seemed to look at Susanna in utter disgust.
"How will i know if you have not put something in this food that will either initial us until kingdom? You witch! Get out and take your curse food with you" She said again as she carried the tray and used it to hit Susanna who stumbled back in pain, getting the attention of the people in the restaurant. He flinched as he saw tears in her eyes.
He swallowed that anger when it was a fire-seed and forgot to think of something cool, and so it grew in his belly until it came out as hot as any dragon has ever flamed... on the Aunt Polly.
"Aunt!" He said as he walked to Susanna who flinched when he wanted to touch her. He saw her body was turning red as a result of the hot food his aunt had poured on her.
"Don't you dare touch that witch Mike, she will curse you"
"What is all these Aunt?. Susanna is not a witch. You should act as someone's mother for once. Don't you see you put her in pain?"
"She supposed to be in pain for all the sins she had committed. She killed her parents and then her husband, very soon she will target her daughter. You do know what this woman is because she is the devil's daughter"
Susanna left with tears in her eyes as she hurriedly walked into a room just beside the counter. He knew she was hurt. He felt she was hurt and he was angry she was hurt. His eyes followed her departing figure as his anger seemed to get the worst of him. Why does his aunt pick on Susanna?
"Mike calm down. Look just sit down and forget this ever happened.
Anger, pain, sadness - so intertwined that perhaps their names aught to be tweaked to reflect the true origins of those emotions.
What the hell was wrong with him?
"How will i forget when you had insulted Susanna? Let this be the last time you talk that bad about her again or i will do something you will forget blame yourself for" He said as he looked at his Aunt who looked at him in utter surprise.
"Are you threatening me because of that witch?"
"Point of correction, Susanna is not a witch"
"You really have not changed Mike, you still talk back at me? Jake let us go, we do not need to be here" Aunt Polly said to her husband as he dragged him up, around the table and out of the restaurant.
"Mike?" His brother called as he turned to him, his anger still evidently in his eyes. Looking at his brother who still stared at him in surprise, he muttered a "yes".
"Calm down first. You need to calm down. Sit down and let us talk about this" He said as he pointed to the seat beside him.
"What happened here clearly is not your business so if you do not mind, can you mind it?" Ben said and everyone got his message as no one had an eye on them again.
"First of all maybe it was good you defended her. I have never seen you defend someone like that before and also, i still do not understand why you defended her? Well yes i know she is known very well as a witch and i know it is not true because that want had been through a lot but you being there and siding her today does not still make sense to me?
"This is a new side of you i am seeing. What is wrong Mike? And also, i had seen the way you looked at her, you looked at her with something i still cannot figure out. Why did you look at Susanna like that? Has anything been going on with you two because you seem to look at her with attention" Ben said as he folded his hands, awaiting Mike's reply.
"I.......i don't know what you are talking about. I just did what someone in my shoes would have done" Mike stammered as he tightened his fists, knowing he is lying to not only his brother, but to himself.
"I have never seen you look at a girl like that before. I have not even seen you get angry just because a girl or maybe woman had been insulted. I only remember the way you look at those chicks years ago.You looked like you would want to bounce on them any minute. But the way you looked at Susanna was different. Are you sure you aren't liking the woman?" Ben asked again as he looked at him in confusion.
"Me? Liking Susanna? No it is just i did what i had done like a friend would and discriminating her snapped something in me. Maybe I was angry about that? Does she work here?" Mike asked, diverting the conversation.
"Yes she does, since the death of Daniel. I tried helping her but i never saw any other job that would want her. She never finished school remember? So she had to start working as a waiter" Ben said as he sat comfortably on his chair.
Mike became sad on hearing all Susanna had gone through. He did not know why he was sad but he did not really want Susanna to be working at a restaurant. She was much too brilliant for that, sensible and loving for this job.
"Do you think this work pays her enough?" Mike asked as he looked at his brother.
"Not enough to even feed the woman, talk more of her child".
He could not just let her suffer on her own like that. He had to help her. He did not know but he just wanted to help her in any way he could. And then he had an idea.
"Do you perhaps have her account number?" He asked Ben who had just started eating the food in which the waiter had replaced.
"Why are you asking?"
"Just wanted to know brother"
"It seems to be more than that, do you want to send her money?" He asked as his eyes widened.
"Maybe. She will not want my help so i will just have to help her by transferring money frequently to her account without her knowing" Mike said as he fiddled with his food which was still left untouched.
"Woah! That is so nice of you Mike"
"But please do not tell her anything about this. She does not have to know about this please. It is the only way i find it fit to help her. She had suffered so much.
"Fine! I will not say anything. I will ask Susanne if she has it. They are very close. She is using Daniel's bank account as hers. I will send you the details later"
"Thanks bro for the help"
"You are welcome. Now eat your food, lunch break is almost over" Ben said as Mike started eating. He ate, looking at the door Susanna had entered in case she comes out again.
He just wanted to see her again.
Biting his lips, he stood up, alerting Ben in the process.
"I will be right back Ben. Just give me a minute"
And with that, he walked towards the door in which he knew Susanna was in.
The kitchen was sleek, professionally designed, bespoke, with granite counters, stainless steel appliances. It was very spotless, and expertly scrubbed, well equipped, utensils on hooks, matching cups uncluttered, clean folded tea towel, gentle swish from the dishwasher, and an efficient hum of refrigerator. Dried flowers hung from beams with a professional knife block, nothing superfluous, minimalistic.Susanna's eyes drip with tears as she washed the dishes. Her walls, the walls that hold her up, which makes her strong just... collapse. Moment by moment, they fall. Salty drops fall from her chin, drenching her shirt. Perhaps these tears will help wash the pain out. She pressed my head against the wall. She was trembling. She could not stop. Even as she press her hand on the plates it shakes, it trembles. It's raw, everything, raw tears, raw emotions. She couldn't stop... She just could not stop. Why can she not stop crying? All her life she
Ben sank into his forties like a favourite old armchair. He felt like this age was where he was supposed to be. Reminiscing his youth with his wife was fun, but he wasn't wishing to go back there. Those were crazy times, anxious times, building a career and financing a home. The hectic life of school had given way to the social whirl of peers but in general life had slowed to a more sedate pace. Now he was Head of the Medical Department in the only Medical Hospital in Zades. He ran the soccer-club sometimes in summer when he was on Easter break, played golf and volunteered to helping his community, which was Zades.Everywhere he went he was greeted by ex classmates, friends, teachers and other people he had met in other works of life, many of whom were in his classes themselves years before. He didn't mind the white hair that lay snowy against his white skin, he wasn't bothered about taking his belt out a few notches
Seven years ago.........The sun was bright and early. It's rays, like fingers stretching across the darkened sky, bring with it a new day. Gradually, the sun fills the sky with its brilliance and a warm glow. ... The fiery ball of light rising from the horizon, colored the sky in shades of orange and yellow. The piercing sound of the alarm clock brought Susanna back from the dead of sleep. She started to wriggle and stretch within her little cosy, warm, haven that is she calls her bed. As parts of her body were gradually turning on, she realised today was the day she starts her new job. She wakes up with a start and lifts reluctantly lifts her head off the pillow, squinting against the gossamer light flirting through the window. She sighed again as she leaned over at the bulky black clock which was on the wall. She was already ten minutes late on her first day. She quickly stood up and en
Her thought were blank. What a strange occurrence! Normally her thoughts were always twisting and turning; suffocating her with their whispers. When she is always alone, her thoughts will always turn into tormentors, a torture only escapable by sleep... which had become fleeting. But then she had realized that if she never "replied," if she lets them float by like a call unanswered, then in time they would cease.Always they became a little worse, yet soon they ebbed. This night while on bed she noticed they were gone and just the noticing brought them back a little, but only a faint echo of what they had been. They are gone now and she did not know why but she was glad they were gone. Those terrifying thoughts! Her mind was quiet, healthy, and happy for the first time since she was eight. Just like any bully, they go when ignored. She knew he was the reason. The god she had seen back at the bar. His face seemed so glued to her memory that she
Susanna smiled as she met his gaze, his eyes portraying shock and worry. She did not know why he seemed so worried but all she wanted to do was to repay him for all he had done for her that night."Please stay"She whispered as she stepped closer, reaching out to the hands that once reassured her that her world was safe, holding it with her two hands. She clutched at his long and straight fingers anyway, letting the warmth and softness of her own hands let him know she was there to help in anyway possible. She did not know why but she felt safe with this man. She will not deny the fact that she will be happy if he stays in this 'lonely cabin' she calls a home with her, even if it was just for a night."I do not know.......""Take it as an offer from a friend" She said as she squeezed his hand tighter."OK, if you do insist" He reluctantly said as he smiled."G
Susanna bit her lips as she could not sleep. All she could think of was the good looking man in her house. She closed her eyes and opened them again. Why can't she sleep? She got up and decided to go get some water from the kitchen. Taking slow steps she approached the door of the room he was in."Maybe he is asleep" She thought as she made her way towards the kitchen but was surprised to see him standing there pouring some water into a cup."You're still awake?" His voice makes her jolt and shiver. Why does he have this effect on her?"I...I'm just finding it hard to sleep" She says, trying to act normal but inwardly she could not control herself. His handsomeness is one thing, but the way he carries himself like a god makes him seem more attractive, and to help did she want to put her hand into his hair. She badly wanted to touch his muscles and feel them. She wanted to taste his lips and for t
The sky was black tranquility married to a poetry of stars. It was the softness that called body and brain to rest and let the heart go to its steady rhythm. Night came as a reward of sorts, a restfulness above to calm the soul. The night was a special kind of blackness, the kind that wants only to hold the stars and help them to shine all the brighter. It was a warm black that hugged you no matter what, and within it's safety He could feel his own soul all the more clearly, that innocent inborn spark as he drove into the still night at about 9pm in the night. He had gotten home before but really didn't feel like staying or sleeping. He wanted to go out for a drive and enjoy the still and cold night.Breathing deeply, he inhaled the cool air as it also gave it skin a cool touch. It was such a cool and maybe would be a memorable one for him.Mike sighed as thoughts came rushing in his head, making his head whil
The pain of what just happened with Susanna took over his brain, as if dealing with it is energy expenditure enough, without the effort of new thoughts. Why won't she just give him a chance? He wanted her to give him a chance to prove he wasn't the type of man he is.Why does he care so much for her? Why does he always feel the need to help her?Why does it hurt so much when she had talked like that to him?He had never felt this way for any woman before. All he had felt for women was lust.Yes, he had duped her, but he never had touched any other woman after he had taken her innocence. He never understood why.He had raped women before, slept with numbers of prostitutes but after what he did to her, he never had the courage to touch another woman because he thought he would hurt her.He had lived with this untold guilt for seven years while he was getting rich. His plan was t

EllisWho does Rainier think he is?I ask myself the question as I tack a smiling reindeer to my bedroom door, replacing the sunflowers.I know heās an esteemed neurosurgeon whoās been in practice for several years now. Her mind just seems elsewhere today. Thatās all.āTom looks at Ellis. āWell, given the fact that you gave that poor man in the ER four stitches too many, I have to agree. Is something wrong, Smithson? When the opening notes of āWhat Child Is This?ā start to play, I brace myself and start to sing as best as I can. I havenāt sung in public in a while, but thankfully, I still remember the lessons I learned when I was in the choir back in middle school. He was happy when he had heard that she was coming back the next day. He smiled as he saw Hannah gleaming with joy. She was sure happy to see her mother again. He took her out and they did some shopping together, Hannah choosing what she wanted to give to her mother. Well most of them were chocolates, ice cream and cakes.Just when they were done with shopping, Mike spotted a very beautiful ring just at a jewellery shop.It seemed more like a diamond and a sapphire joined together. It contains two interlocking rows of channel-set diamonds and gorgeous sapphires. The sapphire has a strong intense shade of bright blue that exhibit great brilliance and wonderful sparkle. One elegant row contains sixteen full cut diamonds totaling approximately twenty-five carats. It will look so beautiful on Susanna's finger. Especially now that he had planned to get all serious after she has come back from wherever she went to. It was the only way to keep her a
