Chapter 5

In the novel, the original Carissa would never have dared to posit herself as Lincoln's equal whenever he was at home. She wouldn't dare sit if he was standing, and when he sat, she would stand humbly by his side, awaiting his instructions. She would be at his beck and call.

"Are you that desperate to get divorced?" Lincoln didn't look too happy. Perhaps it was because he couldn't stand the difference between my and the original Carissa's behaviors.

I said indifferently, "I'm worried on Suzanne's child's behalf. You don't want it to be illegitimate when it's born, right?"

The divorce was only the first step. I had more things planned for him.

He nodded. There was a look in his eyes that I couldn't quite read—was it sorrow? Remorse? Guilt?

"Fine, then. This is the new agreement. Take a look." He pulled out the agreement from his briefcase and pushed it toward me.
