CHAPTER THIRTY - SIX

Jenna's POV

I dialed the familiar number, my heart racing with anticipation. The secretary answered on the first ring. "Jenna, it's so good to hear from you! How are you?"

"I'm doing okay," I replied, trying to sound casual. "Just wondering how things are going at the company."

The secretary hesitated, and I sensed a hint of unease in their voice. "Well, to be honest, things have been a bit... tumultuous since your father's passing."

My grip on the phone tightened. "What do you mean?"

"Your stepmother, Brianna, is trying to maneuver her way into the CEO position," the secretary revealed, their voice barely above a whisper. "And she's bringing Ginger into the mix, trying to use her as a pawn in her game."

My blood boiled at the mention of my stepmother's name. "That manipulative...!"

"I know, I know," the secretary commiserated. "It's been a challenging time for everyone at the company. But we're all trying to stay loyal to your father's vision and keep the company runnin
