Ethan's world was a chaotic obscure of shadows and torment as he fell through the collapsing earth. He listened to the cries of Selene and Lena from afar off, but they were suffocated out by the thunder of the chasm that had opened underneath them. His intellect dashed, attempting to understand the sheer scale of what was happening.

They plunged into a void, the obscurity around them thick and impervious. His instincts shouted at him to brace up for effect, but the drop was so long, so profound, that he dreaded there could be no foot.

And after that with a bone-jarring crash, Ethan hit the ground. The breath was thumped out of him, and he lay still for a minute, battling to recapture his faculties. The torment was sharp and immediate, but he was alive.

“Ethan!” Selene's voice was a life saver within the obscurity. He constrained himself to move, to sit up, and come out indiscriminately until he found her hand. She pulled him up, and together they stunned to their feet.

Whatever this Abyss is, it’s not of our time.”Ethan checked their environment,

Ethan's breath came in brief wheezes as he, Lena, and Selene took in their new surroundings. The chamber they had been in minutes before had vanished, supplanted by a tremendous, unending field of bizarre, moving scenes. The sky was a whirl of unnatural colors of purples, reds, and debilitated greens, intermixed with streaks of dark lightning. The ground underneath them was unsteady, as though it couldn't choose whether it needed to be strong shake or fluid tar. Everything appeared to be in a steady state of flux, even the very texture of reality was fraying at the edges.“This… this can't be real,” Lena whispered, her voice filled with admiration and fear. She turned in circles, attempting to locate a few points of reference, but there was none. “Where are we?”Selene bowed her head downwards as she ran her fingers over the ground, feeling the odd, moving surface underneath her fingertips. “This place… it's like nothing I've ever laid eyes on. It's as though we've been pulled into an

Ethan was stunned to his feet, the harsh fragrance of smoke stinging his nostrils as he overviewed the wreckage around him. The blast had diminished the once-imposing machine to a smoldering pile of turned metal, its dull energy at long last quenched. But the sight that held Ethan's heart was the two figures lying still in the midst of the flotsam and jetsam.“Selene! Lena!” Ethan's voice broke with freeze as he faltered toward them, his legs scarcely holding him up.Selene was the closest. Her body lay still, her once-vibrant ruddy hair now tangled with blood and sediment. Ethan dropped to his knees next to her, his hands trembling as he touched her by the neck, looking for a beat. He was relieved when he felt the faint, unfaltering beat beneath his fingers.“Selene, hang on,” he whispered, his voice choked with feeling. She was barely alive. He looked over at Lena, fear biting at him internally. She was folded against a broken piece of apparatus, her dull hair covering her face. Eth

But the shadows were quicker, ringlets of inky blackness crawling up from the chasm, coming out just like the fingers of a few inconspicuous beasts.Lena glanced back at the chasm, her eyes wide with terror. “It’s not just shadows, Ethan. It’s... alive.”The realization hit him like a punch to the intestine. Whatever was rising from the profundity wasn't just a few dull drives; it was a being of unadulterated grudge, an animal born of the exceptionally obscurity that Draven had looked for to use. And now, with Draven gone,

Lena was already on her feet, pulling him up. “Come on!” she urged, her voice sharp with urgency. “We can’t stay here!”The storm rolled in with unnatural speed, a divider of dull clouds gulping the moonlight as Ethan and Lena gazed at the figure on the removed slope. The air buzzed with inactivity. The figure remained unmoving, an foreboding outline against the scenery of the drawing nearer whirlwind.“We ought to move,” Lena whispered, her voice scarcely capable of being heard over the rising wind. She pulled at Ethan's arm, her eyes wide with a blend of fear and assurance. “Whatever that thing is, it's not here to help.”Ethan gestured, his look waiting on the figure for a minute longer before he turned and walked behind Lena. The curse was fighting to keep its hold on him, and she could feel the dark tendrils still embedded in his spirit.Ethan, Mariam, and Fenrik stood a few steps away, catching their breath after the battle. They traded stressed looks, knowing that this was the ultimate test. If they could break the curse, at that point everything they had battled for, all the sacrifices they had made, would not be in vain."Clara," Marcus whispered, his voice frail but unfaltering, "I do not want to leave you. I need to fight this, but I do not know if I can.""You will not fight this alone," Clara said firmly. She leaned clo

The tremors had subsided, but the darkness that had briefly returned wasn’t gone, it was hiding, waiting. The sky, once brightening with the new dawn, seemed veiled in an eerie, gray mist that swirled as though alive.Marcus slowly sat up, his body still weak from the ritual, but his eyes were clear. “Clara...,” he began, his voice hoarse.“Don’t speak,” Clara urged, gently pushing him back down. “You need to rest.”“I’m fine,” he insisted, though his strength was clearly not back. He looked into her eyes, his hand finding hers. “You saved me, Clara.”A brief, tender silence passed between them, but there was no time for it to last. Ethan stepped forward, his expression tense. “We need to move,” he said. “Whatever that was, it’s not over.”Clara nodded, and though she wanted to stay by Marcus’s side, she knew Ethan was right. The battle wasn’t done yet.The group didn’t l

Clara stopped by Marcus's side, her heart pounding as she checked his beat. He was alive, barely.“Stay with me, Marcus,” she said softly, her voice breaking as she brushed his hair from his forehead. Blood seeped through his torn clothing where the claws of the void’s heart had struck him. His breathing was shallow, each rise of his chest labored and weak.Ethan and Mariam arrived at her side, their faces etched with concern. Ethan knelt beside Clara, his hands glowing faintly as he pressed them over Marcus’s wounds.“I can slow the bleeding,” Ethan said, his voice strained. “But whatever that thing did to him, it’s deep. Dark magic, he’s not healing as he should.”Mariam’s expression was terrible as she studied the scene. “We need to get him out of here now. This place still

The shadows were gone, and the dark armies obliterated, but something lingered, a presence, barely detectable but undeniable.Clara turned to Marcus, her eyes reflecting the weariness they all felt. "It's too quiet. After everything, this doesn’t feel... finished."Marcus, his keen senses alert, frowned as he surveyed their surroundings. "I know. The abyss is gone, but the air feels wrong, like it’s holding its breath."Mariam, her energy drained from the prolonged battles, nodded in agreement. "There's an old saying in the ancient texts. This feels older, darker.”From the distant mountains, the figure that had begun to rise now stood fully revealed. Its massive form blotted out the sun, casting a shadow across the entire valley.
