View MoreThe moon was very bright, Steph noted as she made her way to the stream. The forest was strangely quiet as the wind blew slowly.
She whistled as she made her way, pushing the branches of the large trees away with her palm. It's been a while since she went swimming in the river. Her wolf growled quietly and she smiled.
It could smell the waters, Werewolves were known for their strong sense of smell. The town was quiet, everyone was still scared from the killings that had been happening in the land.
There'd always been the death of a wolf every full moon in the last six months. No one knew the cause of their deaths other than the fact that it had been the work of a wolf.
It was definitely a wolf from a different pack, wolves didn't kill in their packs, and the killings had stopped for a while since the security had heightened. The Alpha had commanded watches doubled and watchers increased.
Her wolf growled again and she stifled a shout as she came in front of the river, it looked still, and she was grateful for the increased watch... She could swim and ease the heat her wolf had bottled up.
She began to undress hurriedly as her wolf started to peep. She could feel her nails growing out into claws as she fumbled with the button on her shirt.
"Calm down, Stephanie," she cooed to her wolf.
She was barely out of her shirt when her wolf came out, ripping her skirts into little pieces. She huffed as she stepped into the river. The cold water washed over her and she went under the water, her fur soaked in the water as she moved in the water. Her wolf was pleased.
It was a thing for her to go swimming every month, she'd been unable to go for five months due to the fear of the masked wolf that had been killing pack members.
Her mind link tapped open as her mother connected to her.
"Where the heck are you?" Her voice thundered in Steph's head and Steph chuckled, imagining her present position. Hands on her hips and chest pushed out.
"At the river," she replied through the link.
She picked a gasp as her mother's heartbeat pace increased.
"It's risky, why are you out there?"
Her wolf shook violently shaking the water from its fur, Steph beamed in delight, happy her wolf was finally getting what it had always wanted.
She wasn't scared, she was one of the strongest females in the pack. She was sure she could handle whatever came her way.
"Steph....?" Her mum reached out through the mind link again.
Realising the action of her wolf had shut the mind link, she tried to stop moving as she replied, "I'm fine, I just needed a wash, ma."
Her mum said something she didn't quite pick, she was about to ask when she noticed a movement in the bush. Her wolf picked up the scent before she did. It was the presence of another wolf.
"Steph?" Her mum connected again
Steph ignored her as she walked out of the river ever so slowly, not taking her eyes off the part where she had sensed the movement, she shook her body as she remained in her wolf form.
If there was going to be a fight, her wolf was a better fighter than she was. She shut off the mind link as her mum kept reaching out.
The wolf growled as it moved slowly, still hiding itself in the bushes.
The smell had gotten stronger, the smell got stronger as the movement increased, it was coming towards her.
She growled softly preparing her wolf who had now gotten scared. Her wolf whimpered and moved backwards. Steph tried to steel it to the front but it stayed fixed backwards as it stared at the spot.
There was another growl and Steph whimpered suddenly regretting her decision to come swimming. The wolf growled loudly again and jumped out of the bush, revealing itself.
It stood on a stump and howled loudly, facing the moon.
Steph felt her heart pound in her chest. Her wolf's fear combined with her as she stared at the wolf the size of a horse, very large.
It came down and walked towards her. She gulped as she moved backwards, away from the river. The moon was full so she could make out the wolf's features.
It was a silver-lined wolf with bright red eyes. The eyes shone in the dark, it looked so scary, Steph knew she couldn't win even if she fought. She had to let her mother know who it was.
Opening the mind link... She connected, she was about to communicate when it flung itself at her, pushing her down and pressing its large paw on her neck.
It pressed till she couldn't feel her neck again.
"The lamb for this night," it growled as it licked her face. She froze as she recognized the voice. Struggling to breathe, she tried to connect to her mum.
"Greet the ones before you on my behalf," the wolf whispered and with one last howl bite into her neck.
She shouted as the pain shot through her whole body, it sucked on the spot and she lay still as her energy drained from her body. It was her turn tonight, only if she had stayed at home
The mind link opened again and she tried to focus, she had to tell her mum who it was.
The wolf raised its head, licking its mouth and plunged at the bite again, this time, tearing that part away. She groaned as she felt parts of her body being torn to food.
"Steph!!! No!!" Her mother's voice echoed in agony. She was sure her mother was sharing in her pain, and she focused again trying to ignore the noise and pain.
"Mother, it's the..." she shouted in pain as the wolf yanked her thigh bone off with its huge sharp teeth.
Her eyelids fluttered as her body became numb. She closed her eyes as the mind link disconnected.
"No... No... No." She cried as her body gave out to the weakness.
She took one final look at the beast and breathed her last.
“The Brown Fur Pack?” They echoed, and Alpha Elton nodded. “Why are they suddenly asking for a formal duel?” Collon asked in surprise. “Don't they just sneak attack our people on normal occasions?”“We still haven't taken revenge for their actions, and now they are bold enough to ask us for a duel?”“Yes, I believe their sneak attack isn't working for them anymore, and since it appears we haven't been paying attention to them, they decided to take the open route,” Alpha Elton explained. “What do they want?” Kendrick asked.“Pack lands,” Alpha Elton provided. “Whoever loses the duel will give the other a portion of their Pack land.”Kendrick's jaw tightened as he stared at the envelope on the table. “They want our land? After ambushing and killing our scouts, now they want to challenge us like it's some game?”“They’re testing our strength,” Collon scoffed. “They think we’ve grown weak. I'm sure the news about our people dying has reached their ears.”Kendrick looked between his fath
“I think it's time to appoint a new Alpha,” Elder Ambrose announced, and the room went deadly silent as everyone gaped at him in shock. “Surely, you are joking?” Elder Antonia, who had been quiet and expressionless since the beginning of the whole meeting, asked in disbelief, making Ambrose shake his head. “This is not a matter to joke with.”“And yet you say something as absurd as that?” She scoffed in annoyance. “You want to appoint a new Alpha when the Alpha is still well and alive? I never knew you were a treasonous person.”“It is the best solution to the problem we are facing now,” Ambrose argued.“Tell me, how does removing the Alpha relate to catching a killer?” Antonia replied with a red face as her voice became louder while glaring at Ambrose. “Answer me: how will removing a well, alive and a fully functional Alpha help get information about a killer? Or are you insinuating that the Alpha is the killer?!”“Presumptuous!” Elder Ambrose yelled. “How dare you accuse me of su
“Can I see her body?” Kendrick asked as he walked into the pack hospital where Helen's mother's corpse was being cleaned up.Jasmine's words had struck a nerve, and somehow he couldn't get it out of his head.Truly, why had he been waiting on the Alpha when the Beta could do something about the death? Not only does he have the authority to investigate the killing, but he also has the power to read the minds of the dead. The more he thought about it, the more annoyed he became, and finally when he could no longer hold it in. He marched towards the hospital. As they heard his words, Nancy and the rest of her team raised a brow in surprise. “Beta Kendrick, we already checked, but nothing on her corpse gave us a clue as to who killed her.”“I can read her mind,” he offers, but before he could finish his words, a loud voice cut him off.“No, you cannot,” Collon interjected. “Are you planning on going against Father's command for you not to use your powers?”“What choice do we have?” Kendri
“Someone else was found dead this morning.” Kendrick heard someone whisper as he walked out of his home the following morning. Somehow, he slept through the night again even though he had planned to join the patrol unit last night. Hearing their words, his heart sank. Another pack member had lost their life while the Alpha refused to investigate the cause of the one behind the killing. Following the scents of the blood and the people going and coming, he soon arrived at a familiar building and the closer he walked the more agitated he became.‘Oh please, goddess, no!’ he prayed as his steps became faster and more hurried. As he arrived at the destination, he breathed a sigh of relief as he noticed Helen sitting in the living room. However, his relief turned to worry as he noticed the blank look on her face. “What happened?” he asked, to no one in particular. Not that he couldn’t tell what happened but he needed to hear it. He needed confirmation that what his nose was telling him
The thunder rumbled loudly as Helen whimpered. It had become very dark, she had hidden herself after the fight. She felt bad for fighting that way. She had been stressed from running too many laps before the fight. She wanted to stay home and rest but her mum had forced her to the field saying she had to train harder. She was just going to do a little since it was a new girl she was paired with but when the girl landed a blow to her stomach. Her mum had mind-linked her telling her the Beta was watching her.She didn't want to seem like a weakling, it was a privilege that the beta taught her privately. She didn't want to bring shame to him so she transformed and charged at the girl. Helen didn't expect her not to transform, that's why she kept coming at her.It felt as if she was in rage, she suddenly couldn't see clearly as she tasted the girl's blood. It tasted sweet and she wanted more, she didn't know what happened, and only when she saw Kendrick's blood did she calm down. The thu
"Please, stay awake," Kendrick shouted as he tapped the girl's face, she was slipping away. She had lost so much blood, he feared she was going to die before she could be treated. "Hey ... Hey... Stay with me," he whispered again. The lady who came to call him from the office stood beside him, holding her hands as they wheeled her into the Pack hospital. She was rushed into the theatre, and only then did Kendrick notice the girl was crying. He moved to her and tapped her back, he didn't understand why she was crying but he just wanted her to stop crying. She looked at him and sniffled."Is that how you fight in your Pack?" She asked, a strange look in her eyes. "No..." He assured her. He had never seen Helen that wild, biting someone who was already hurting wasn't something she should do. He taught her that. He glanced around the room to see if she followed them in but he didn't see her."Her name is Jasmine," the girl filled him in. He looked at her and nodded."I thought you were
Kendrick stormed out of the packhouse and moved to his house. He dressed up and drove to the pack's Academy. It was already full before he got in. He smiled at some students as they greeted him while he walked into the office. Being the Alpha's Beta came with a lot of responsibility. He was sitting in his office when a female student walked in. She stood over a well 5'6 ft tall and had the longest hair he had ever seen. She was new, he assured himself as he watched her walk to his table swaying her hips. She stood directly opposite him and gave him a mock bow."Hey Beta, what's up?" She drawled and he couldn't help but smile at the attempt to sound sexy. A look at her neck revealed she hadn't met her mate as it was without a mate mark. "You're new?" He asked as he arranged files on his table. She smoothed her short skirt with her hands and sat down on a chair. "Just joined the pack." Kendrick tried not to sigh, his Father had been accepting members of other packs despite warnings
The smell filled Kendrick's nostrils before he could open his eyes. Snapping out of his slumber he sat up as his wolf struggled to come out.He sat still for a while trying to calm his wolf. "It's not here."His wolf quieted down, letting out sad whimpers as he rushed to wear his clothes. He stepped out of his house and squinted, the sun shone very brightly, and he could almost feel his skin sizzling. A glance at his wristwatch revealed it was still early in the morning, the road was bustling with people all around. Has there been another death? He stood in front of his house as he tried to pick where the smell came from. It was the river, it was close to his house so he walked hurriedly to the direction. The smell became stronger as he picked a familiar scent. Was that someone he knew? His wolf peeped, channelling its energy into his legs as he burst into a run. He arrived at the river and gasped at the number of people looking at the body. He growled deeply, registering his prese
