Thousands of years could pass, and Angelie would still recognize that voice, the voice that haunted her dreams but also warmed her heart.
"Jeff," she whispered, barely believing her eyes.
Sonia immediately released her grip on Angelie's hair. The man in front of her screams power and danger, an aura so intense that even the boldest would hesitate.
"Who are you?" Sonia asked with a shaky voice.
"Someone capable of destroying your entire generation, Ms..," Jeffery said, his voice low and full of rage as he stepped closer.
"If you ever try this mistake again, consider your life gone. I don't make promises I don't keep."
Sonia and her girls, trembling in fear, turned and ran without looking back.
All the while, Angelie stood frozen. She couldn't believe Jeff was here, her prince in shining armor.
"Are you okay, Angelie?" Jeff's voice was soft now, like he hadn't just threatened to deal with someone.
He gently examined her, making sure she wasn't hurt.
"Were they trying to bully you?"
"No, no, they can't," she said firmly. She meant it. Never again would she allow herself to be bullied.
When Jeffery arrived in New York, the only person on his mind was Angelie. He needed happiness, and somehow, she had always been his source.
He was walking up the building when he spotted her being harassed. Rage filled him instantly, but his upbringing restrained him from laying hands on a woman.
If it had been a man, there would have been blood, and he meant every single word.
He gently helped her up. "Come on, let’s look around the city."
Angelie nodded, secretly excited.
Jeff drove this time. He wanted the moments to be just them.
They arrived at a beautiful location overlooking the water, the weather was usually friendly if it aligned with them.
"This is beautiful," Angelie said, genuine awe in her voice.
"Just like you," Jeff replied casually, not even glancing at her.
Angelie's heart somersaulted. If she could replay those words forever, she would.
She kept stealing glances at him.
"How are you?" she finally asked.
Jeff sighed. "Good enough."
"How's your brother, Tim? I haven't seen him in a while."
"He's fine... just living," Angelie answered softly.
She didn’t want to go into details, as that would bring up unanswered questions.
They spent hours together, walking, talking, laughing. When Jeff finally dropped her off, Angelie's heart could barely contain her joy.
If this day could come every day, she would gladly jump on it.

Tim lay on his 6-by-6 mattress, his room neat and warm as always. Tim has always detested an untidy environment. Julia walked in carrying a tray with hot, steaming rice.
"You'll make me fat. You want me to become ugly?" Tim teased.
"Even if you lost all your teeth, you'd still never be ugly to me," Julia shot back, laughing.
"Here, eat this. It's a new recipe I learned from Mom."
"Thank you. How is she?" he asked, accepting the tray.
"She's fine. That money the good Samaritan gave us covered her drugs."
“Now, I don’t have to worry about her medical expenses.
Tim nodded, a pang of guilt hitting him. "I'm glad. You didn’t have to marry anyone to pay her bills."
Julia noticed the pain flashing across his face but brushed it off lightly.
"She'll be fine."
Tim dug into the meal. "Hmm, this is delicious."
"Yeah, but not as good as Angelie's cooking. I can’t wait for her to become the world’s best chef," Julia giggled.
Tim was still eating when his phone buzzed. An email notification popped up.
His heart raced as he opened it, and then he screamed, lifting Julia into the air.
"I got the job!" he shouted, spinning her around.
Julia screamed with joy, hugging him tightly. Then, almost instinctively, she leaned in and kissed him.
Tim froze for a split second, then deepened the kiss; he never imagined how much he yearned for those soft lips.
It felt like he was in paradise and would rather remain there.

At an upscale restaurant, Anita clinked glasses with her manager.
"Cheers to your engagement," her manager said.
"I want to organize a press conference and it's kind," Anita said, her eyes gleaming. "Something that will go viral and make an outlandish statement. It'll boost my fan base and land me more endorsements."
They discussed inviting top magazine outlets, arranging for exclusive press coverage, and building the perfect image.
"This engagement will make you a household name," her manager promised.
Anita smiled. That was the plan.
“We will be the power couple, two powerful families, a top model and a successful CEO, picture the headline,” Anita was just over the moon.

Tim sat in his new office, grinning like a fool. The space was modern and spacious, a far cry from the cramped office he used to share with six people.
This was a dream come true; working with this company was something he never saw coming years back.
He was working on a draft when memories of Julia’s kiss flashed in his mind.
"Why hasn't she visited? Why is she avoiding my calls?" he wondered, anxiety creeping in.
He decided he would go see her after work, or later.
Something had changed between them, and he needed to know what it was.

Jeffery sat in his office, today he dressed causal, flipping through financial files. His brow furrowed deeper with each page.
"This doesn't add up," he muttered.
He rang his secretary, who informed him that Lucas had personally handled those accounts.
Without thinking, Jeff stormed toward Lucas’s office.
He didn’t bother knocking.
He pushed the door open and met them.
There, tangled up against the desk, was Lucas... making out with his assistant.

A disgusted look was plastered across Jeffrey's face. Lucas and Lizzy were so engrossed in their moment, moaning loudly within the soundproof office walls, they hadn't even noticed his entrance.Jeff couldn't believe the level of shamelessness unfolding before him."How shameless can one be?" Jeff's voice thundered, drawing their attention.Lizzy wished the ground would open and swallow her at the moment; she hastily grabbed her clothes from the floor and ran out of the office, her face burning with embarrassment.Lucas, however, showed no ounce of shame. He zipped up his trousers lazily and smirked."You want to join the show, brother?" Lucas sneered."How shameless can one be? No courtesy for the office or any iota of respect."Lucas shrugged, that devilish grin never leaving his face. "Said the man who can't let go of his brother's wife. Talking of courtesy, nothing stops you from knocking. You just cut off my enjoyment."Jeff clenched his fists. He knew exactly what Lucas was tryi

The hospital waiting room smelled like antiseptic and stale coffee. Angelie sat on the cold plastic chair, her fingers clenched around the fraying strap of her handbag. Her eyes hadn’t left the doctor’s office door since he’d gone in with Tim’s latest test results. Her twin brother was down the hall, unconscious again. Pale. Fading.“Angelie?”She stood so fast the strap snapped off her bag. She didn’t even look at it.Dr. Harrow’s expression told her everything before he said a word.“It’s progressed faster than we hoped,” he said gently. “Tim’s kidneys are failing. Completely this time. We need a transplant. Soon.”She blinked. “How soon is ‘soon’?”He hesitated. “Two weeks. Maybe less.”Angelie felt the ground slip out from under her. “We don’t have that kind of money.”“I know. But there’s a donor. A private one. The procedure would happen at St. Nicholas. They can do it quickly if the financial part is handled.”“How much?”“Three hundred and fifty thousand.”She felt like he’d p
Jeffery’s name still hung in the air like a gunshot.Angelie’s fingers stiffened around the hem of her coat. She looked at Lucas, searching his face for a hint of bluff. A twitch. A lie. But he looked entirely too pleased with himself.“You said he wouldn’t be a problem,” she said slowly.Lucas shrugged, shutting the door behind her. “Plans change.”“How soon is he back?”Lucas turned toward the grand staircase, loosening his tie like her presence was an afterthought. “A few days. Three, maybe. Long enough for us to file the license and start making the press rounds.”Her stomach flipped.“You’re pushing this,” she said, suddenly aware of how fast everything was moving. “You want him to see it, don’t you?”Lucas stopped halfway up the stairs and looked down at her. “I want him to know he lost.”“That’s not what this is about for me,” she said, jaw tight. “This is about saving Tim.”He tilted his head. “Then we’re both getting what we want. Isn’t that the foundation of a good marriage?
The words echoed in her chest like a bullet."Jeffery lands on Tuesday."Angelie stood frozen in the hallway, her fingers clutched around the banister, heart racing. Lucas had said it with a smile, like it was good news. Like it was a game. But to Angelie, it felt like the moment everything would fall apart.Tuesday.Three days.Three days before the man she couldn’t forget came back to see her married to his brother. She went to bed that night still wearing the ivory press dress. The zipper caught, but she didn’t care. She sat on the edge of the massive bed in the guest room Lucas had called “temporary,” staring into nothing.Every breath felt borrowed.Every second with Lucas felt like a countdown.Would Jeffrey believe the headlines?Would he see through them?Would he even want to?********Morning came like punishment. Angelie hadn’t slept. She’d lain in that enormous bed all night, staring at the ceiling, not blinking, not crying. Just… existing. Her body buzzed like it was on the edge of shutting down, but her mind wouldn’t quit. It just kept playing one line on repeat:Jeffery’s coming.Today.To this house. And he’d see her.In this dress. With that man.A new dress had been laid out for her, ivory again. Almost white. Pretty, expensive. Lucas had chosen it. Probably with a smirk. Because nothing he did was ever neutral. She wore it anyway. What was the point in fighting something you couldn’t escape?**********Downstairs, the house was buzzing with quiet chaos. Maids moved fast, fixing flowers, adjusting silverware. The long table was already dressed like royalty was expected.Angelie walked in, shoulders tight, face blank. Angelie woke to the sound of birds. Not her alarm. Not Lucas’s voice.Birds.For a moment, she forgot where she was. Forgot everything. Then the ache set in. Her head spun. Her mouth was dry. What time was it?The wine. Last night. She remembered the knock. Julia. The tray. The two glasses. The way Julia hadn’t met her eyes. She remembered one sip. Maybe two. Then, nothing. Her breath caught. She touched her lips, then her chest, then her thighs.A slow chill crept into her bones. She didn’t remember coming to bed.Didn’t remember undressing.Didn’t remember anything after that first sip of wine. Her heart raced. Was it just sleep? Or something else?Something she didn’t want to name. She got out of bed s
Jeffery didn’t like hesitation. He wasn’t built for it. Things were either handled or not. You said something, or you didn’t. You left, or you stayed. But this morning, the envelope just sat there on his desk.He was already dressed, sharp blue suit, sleeves rolled just enough to breathe. The city outside was waking up, buzzing. He didn’t care. He was standing by the window, arms crossed, just... staring at the blank air.“You going to mail it?” Fred asked from across the room, sipping his coffee like this wasn’t weird.“I said I would.”“Been sitting there since seven.”Jeffery didn’t look at him. “She’ll get it today.”Fred waited a beat. “Still not putting your name on it?”“Nope.”“And you're not going to tell her what it means?”Jeffery finally turned, his face unreadable. “It doesn’t mean anything.”Fred snorted. “Right.” more like he didn’t believe him.Jeffery walked over, picked up the envelope, tapped it once against his palm, then slid it into the outbox tray like he was do

"Damn! This old man is at it again," Morris muttered under his breath, the veins on his forehead bulging as his face flushed red with anger. He immediately stood up, but Amaya grabbed his hand tightly."Calm down," she whispered just loud enough for him to hear. "People are watching."Meanwhile, Jeffery kept his composure, masking his shock behind a calm, unreadable face. Inside, though, he was boiling, a lot was going through his mindGrandpa Lu continued, "We will communicate the wedding details to you soon." he flashed a quick smile.Anita looked as if she'd just been crowned queen. Her eyes sparkled with excitement, and her smile stretched so wide it almost hurt. This announcement had taken her by surprise, but it was the surprise she had always dreamed of.Guests started congratulating Jeffery and Anita. Jeffery said, stretching the word "Dad" like he needed to lay an emphasis..Without waiting for a reply, he turned and left the study room, the door clicking shut behind him.Morris stared into the thin air, like he was looking at an object. It was easy to put up a strong face for the world, but deep down, the pain cut throught his soul. Watching his son drift further away was like dying slowly. Some truths, he thought, were better left unsaid. "Engagement?" Jeffery said repeatedly, blinking as if he had misheard. His grandfather's words lingered awkwardly between them."I wasn’t joking when I said you need to get closer to Anita," Grandpa Lu said, swirling his glass in his hand, his face was still calm.“You’re not getting younger either.”Jeffery stood silent for a moment, his hands tucked neatly into his pockets. Calmly, and without raising his voice, he spoke, "Grandpa, I know you want the best for me, just like you wanted the best for Dad. But maybe, just maybe... if you hadn’t interfered so much in his life, he and my mother wouldn’t have lived so miserably."Grandpa Lu stiffened, but Jeffery’s tone remained respectful, his words calculated."Some things," Jeffery continued, "are better left to the people involved. Let me make my own mistakes, my own choices."There was a heavy silence.Jeffery exhaled and gave a slight bow of his head. "I’ll be in my room. They stood there for a moment, longer than necessary, caught in the kind of silence that felt loud. Angelie was the first to glance away, trying to control her breathing. Her heart thumped like a drum in her chest, not because she was scared, but because this man had always had that effect on her.Jeffery broke the silence first. "How are you, Angelie?"His voice was low, but it sounded like a melody to her ears.“I’m good,” she said, voice softer than she intended. But she wasn’t. Not really. She hadn’t been good since the day she said "I do" to the wrong brother. Still, she didn’t want to seem weak, not in front of him.Angelie couldn’t explain the sudden rush of nerves. She felt like sixteen again, standing before her secret crush. Jeffery always had a way of disarming her, reducing her to the shy, unsure girl who once spilled coffee on his expensive suit and blushed for three days straight.“You came to see me… why?” she asked, finally meeting his eyes.Jeffery hesitated for a hea
“I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to barge in like that. I think I missed my way,” Angelie said, embarrassed, already backing toward the door.Damien smiled, the kind of smile that made you wonder if he practiced it in the mirror. “You must be new here,” he said, his voice smooth and clear, almost like a melody. “Always use your map till you get used to this place. The building can be confusing.”“I forgot mine in my room,” Angelie confessed, adjusting her bag.“No worries,” he said, that calm look never leaving his face. “What’s your room number?”She told him, and without hesitation, he stepped forward.“Come on, I’ll walk you there.”They moved down the hallway together, and a few turns later, they reached her room.Just as Angelie was thanking him, the door flung open, and Damien left.Flora stood there, wide-eyed.“No way! Just how many days and you already got Damien’s attention? Girl, you are on fire!”Angelie rolled her eyes, but made sure Flora didn’t see it. What is it with this g
A girl, about her age, was already throwing daggers with her eyes.“Are you blind, Miss?” the girl snapped, brushing invisible dirt off her outfit.Angelie blinked. “You weren’t looking your way either; that makes both of us blind.”With that, she grabbed her rolling suitcase and continued walking, her head high. A small grin played on her lips. Where did I get such courage? She wondered. Maybe it really does feel good to stand up for yourself. As she dragged her luggage down the hall, another girl about her age caught up with her, her voice light and cheerful.“I love what you did back there,” the girl said. “That’s Sonia. She acts like she owns the place. Totally intimidated by how beautiful you are.”Angelie blinked at her, still trying to process what had just happened.“I’m Flora,” the girl added quickly. “You must be new. And wow, you’re really stunning. Like, runaway model beautiful.”Angelie blushed slightly. She’d heard compliments about her looks before, but somehow hearing i
