Chapter 1

Zed's Pov

"Move it you piece of filth!" I looked over just in time to see a member of my pack being shoved forward.

Shackled with chains on both hands and feets, i dragged my feet over to the young boy, about 14 years old and pretty roughed up from the war.

"Austin-- Are you alright?" I asked softly. The dead look in Austin's eyes broke him. Being the Alpha's son, i was supposed to take care of his pack, not lead them into captivity. I felt like a failure and i knew most of them thought it too.

"I'm fine Zed. Are you alright? You don't look too good yourself" Austin asked and he attempted to flash that reassuring smile he always gave me.

Austin was one among the potentially capable young alphas the Red Blades pack, my pack, had been nurturing before the attack.

"I'm alright. I can tough it up" I say before i look up ahead. My feets were already sore, so I believed i had to have blisters forming.

"Tough it up? For a bunch of useless rouges, this one's got some mouth on him" one of the Alphas that had been shoving us around said before he lashed a whip against my back. The impact was so strong that it sent me to the ground, a few feet ahead. Some blood came out from the corners of my lips.

The entire group stopped and i heard gasps among the rest of my pack that survived.

"Zed.."

"Zed, are you okay?"

"Mr Zed!"

I looked up to find all the eyes of the people i cared about looking at me with worry. They weren't worried for their safety. They weren't worried that we were heading into captivity. They were worried about me. Seeing the concern in their eyes, i dragged my sore feet and got up.

I looked behind at the alphas, glaring at their smug faces. I couldn't bear to defy, especially since there were old women and children. His defiance wouldn't guarantee their safety. I couldn't afford to put any more people in danger.

"You got something to say?" The alpha asked and i slowly shook my head, my fists clenched in anger. I hated myself for being so weak. For being an omega. Had i been an alpha, i would've protected my pack or atleast died trying.

"Then move it!" He growled at me, his snarky expression sending shivers down my spine.

I didn't want to drag anyone behind but i made sure to stand behind everyone else. If anyone was to be punished, i wanted it to be me. It was the least i could do.

The silver moon pack.

It was no rumor what i had heard. They were the most powerful pack in all the city. Ruthless and very formidable. Making enemies with such a pack is like signing a death sentence. I knew better now.

Despite being in their territory, we had been walking for hours, taking breaks each time because of the weak and hungry children but by the time we got there, it was already very dark.

They bundled everyone in dungeons, exhausted and hungry and left us with no food. We had indeed become slaves in a foreign land. Coming from a pack that once had connections, i knew very well how rogues are treated.

"Zed...i don't think the children can last until tomorrow. They're weak...too weak" One of the elders from my pack said as she placed her hand on my shoulder. I winced in pain and she drew her hand back.

"Why haven't you healed yet?" She asked, her concerned face contorting into a deep frown as she looked at me.

"I'll heal. I guess i'm just exhausted-" I answered, as i reached to tug on the hem of my dirty shirt from behind to tug the piece of cloth from my skin.

"The children, of course. Don't worry, i'll figure something out," I mumbled but even i knew i was helpless to do anything.

Looking at every set of eyes that looked at me with hope, i felt broken, useless and unfit to be the person they looked upto.

I turned to the metal doors that were keeping us inside and looked around.

"Hello?! Hello? Is anyone there!!! Please...Please i just....i need to talk to your Alpha!!!" I screamed into the empty dungeons, the only response, the cries of my pathetic echoes.

"I'm sorry... I'm so so sorry" I muttered softly as i turned to look at everyone. "I don't know...i don't know what to do to help you all" I added as i sank to my knees and held onto my knees. "I should've..." He choked, unable to come up with the right words.

"Zed..."

"No, please, allow me to say this. I need to-" I said as i looked up to meet everyone's eyes. "I should've been able to protect you all. I failed you, the faith you all had in me...i failed those that went to battle so we can live so i would like to request something. One last thing-" I trailed off slightly as my fists clenched onto my dirty and ripped jeans.

"Whatever happens. I want you all to live your best lives. There's no Red Blades pack anymore... We don't have the luxury of choosing. Fighting or defying isn't an option for us anymore. Even if not for us, let's think about our children. The little ones that need to survive" I said softly, choking on my words. It wasn't easy but for everyone to survive, they needed to hear these words from him.

Rogues didn't stand a chance. Not against a pack of ruthless alphas. I might've not been in the centre of the battle but i felt the impact upclose. It was only a few days earlier and in that battle i lost both my father and brother. I didn't get to grieve, the privilege was lost when my father's dying wish was for me to bring the rest of the pack to safety.

A wish i couldn't fulfill.

I failed miserably.
