CHAPTER TWO
SALLYI immediately grew weak in the knees. For a second, I couldn't even move. I only stared at his car as it disappeared into thin air. When I turned around, I saw everyone's eyes on me. I was more embarrassed than humiliated. I forced out a smile, and it came out weak."Hey," I felt a hand on my shoulder.I turned around and saw Beverly with a smile. I wanted to hug her so tightly and cry into her arms, but I stopped myself from doing so."Are you okay?" She asked with a furrowed brow.I nodded and forced another smile. She patted my chin and stared all over me."Are you sure?" She asked.Beverly's palms were sweaty and she avoided eye contact with me like a plague.I heard my mother's footsteps and she soon joined us."Where have you two been?" She asked, a worried expression all over her face.We both exchanged glances before Beverly replied to her."She missed me and came to look for me.""Where is Alexander?" She asked, facing me and ignoring Beverly completely."He left..." My voice cracked, and I paused. I inhaled sharply and continued. "He has to attend some business meeting.""Oh, she missed her husband, and not me," Beverly teased.I glared at her before walking away. I'd rather eat jeans than miss him. I knew my mom wouldn't buy that, so I didn't bother arguing. We gathered around for family pictures. Alexander's absence was hugely noticed.William kept glaring at me. I didn't say a word to him until after the photos."Why did you let him leave like that?" He shouted at me. I shook my head and said nothing."You would ride with me to the reception," he told me.I opened my mouth and shut it immediately. I'd rather not attend the reception, but I knew I couldn't tell him that. His guards came to lead us to his black limousine, which would drive us to the reception hall.My parents got into my dad's black jeep, and the rest of the guards entered my mom's car together with Jessica and Beverly, who arrived later to join the pictures.I guessed Jessica had told Mom she'd rather ride there. I was proud of her. Even though she only recently found out that I was adopted, she never acted that way with me. She loves me as much as I love her.Throughout the reception, I was trying to be fine. Beverly kept smiling at me. I was trying to find time to tell her what happened. It was soon time for the couples' dance. I had to dance alone on stage, and it felt awkward.Thankfully, William filled the blank space and had a dance with me.After the dance, I found a way to sneak out with Beverly.I could hear a few people whispering among themselves."Where did her husband go?""Does he look like someone who cares about his wedding?""She's so pretty yet..."After I told Beverly what happened, she placed my head on her shoulder and let me cry on her shoulders. I cried enough before wiping my tears off and washing my face. She applied makeup on my face and pulled my chin."You look pretty," she told me.I forced a smile."At least, today. I am no maid daughter, who you saved from poverty. I am your bridesmaid.""You've always been my best friend, Beverly. You are not a mind daughter."We were still talking when we heard footsteps behind us. We turned around and saw a man walking towards us.He stood beside us and bent his head towards me."I heard you and decided to check what's wrong," he said. "Are you okay?""I'm fine. I got dust in my eyes," I replied and looked away.I rolled my eyes."I am James, " he said stretching his hands towards me.I didn't turn to look at him. Beverly took his hands instead."Tell your friend to get dust into her eyes frequently," he was talking to Beverly, but was staring at me. "She looks really pretty when she does."I smiled. I wasn't expecting that. They finally took their hands off each other."It's your wedding, you should be eating all the cakes," he told me.I found him funny and interesting, and he soon got me laughing so hard.We walked back to the reception hall together, and James stuck to Beverly and I, making us laugh so hard.****The helicopter landed about fifteen minutes after the reception ended. William would drop me off at Alexander's house. He was trying so hard to cover up for his son's absence. I observed every single corner of the compound as I stepped out of the helicopter. The car park of the compound was lined with perfectly manicured shrubs and bushes, and the asphalt was smooth and pristine. The entrance to the compound us through a large ornate gate, and the driveway was long and winding, with beautiful landscaping on either side. It's made of stone and glass, and it was surrounded by a well-kept lawn and gardens. The overall effect was one of wealth, luxury, and seclusion. As I stepped inside the mansion, the sitting room was breathtakingly elegant. The furniture was made of rich, dark wood, and the upholstery was a soft, plush velvet. The walls were painted a warm, inviting shade of cream, and there were tasteful works of art hung throughout the room. There were about two maids there to welcome me.As I walked through, the maids greeted me warmly and ushered me to my room. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed, with a comfortable bed and a window that overlooked the gardens. The scent of fresh flowers filled the air, and I felt a sense of calm and peace. The guards who brought in my luggage did not come with me to my room. They were handed to maids.I was still in awe, trying to compare this mansion to my father's mansion when the door burst open, and I saw Alex standing there with his eyes red.I was shocked at first. He was dressed in shorts, and his bare chest was tempting. He had broad shoulders and finely arranged sixpacks.I shook my head quickly. Why was he home? He didn't seem like he had just arrived. That means he only used the meeting as an excuse to leave the wedding. I sighed deeply."You can't sleep in my room," I told him sharply, but he didn't respond. Instead, he turned to the maids."Leave us!" He ordered the maids. They all walked away, and he walked into the room and shut the door behind him. He began walking towards me while I took steps backwards. My heart was beating very fast, and I placed my hand on my chest."What the fuck is this, Sally?" He shouted, poking his phone into my face.CHAPTER THREEALEXANDER I heaved a sigh of relief as I sank into my bed. The long day was finally over, and I was here again in the comfort of my room. Although, the day was not over. But, since I left... it was over for me. I would just sleep and forget that I ever got married. I had barely closed my eyes when my phone began to vibrate. I sat up and grabbed my phone. I picked up the call and placed the cell phone close to my ear as I rubbed my eyes. "Hello," I called out. I didn't check who the caller was earlier. "Alex!" My father's voice sounded like thunder, and my eyes cleared immediately.I adjusted on my bed and said nothing as I waited for him to continue ranting. "You always have reasons to embarrass me, Alex," he blamed me. "Why was your bride with James on your wedding day? Why did you leave and make her feel lonely?"My heart sank. I already knew this was going to happen. I was not bothered about why I was being blamed for my wife's mistake, too. I was already use
CHAPTER FOURSALLY"Let go of me!" I shouted as I pushed him away.Although, I had waited to enjoy the kiss for about thirty seconds. His lips were soft and addictive. I bit my lower lip with my eyes tightly shut as I reminisced on Alex's kiss. The short kiss during the wedding didn't count because neither of us paid attention to it. I didn't even note what it tasted like. It was short and quick. But, the kiss in my room, there was something about it that I could not understand. A knock on my door jerked me out of my thoughts. The door opened lightly and my secretary walked into my office. "Greetings, ma'am," she greeted me as she bowed her head in front of me. "You are late again?""No, ma'am," she responded. "Mr James is here to see you."I narrowed my eyes. I wasn't expecting any Mr James. "He said he doesn't have an appointment, but the reason he's asking to see you is urgent.""Bring him in," I ordered. She left and returned with a nicely dressed huge figure. He lifted hi
CHAPTER FIVE Alex held his phone tightly in his hands without making any attempt to pick it up until it stopped ringing. I thought that he was just being childish and ridiculous, shook my head, and walked away. My phone began to vibrate. It was James. My heart sank again, but I smiled. It was pay back time. I picked up the call and placed the phone beside my ear and turned towards the chair to see if Alex could see me. I gasped when I didn't see him there. Rather, I felt him behind me. "You just got married, and you are sleeping around already. Why didn't you save your father's business that way?"I hurried away from him. "Thanks for flashing me, miss world," James teased me, and I blushed. I turned around and saw Alex seated on his spot again. "It's my pleasure," I replied loudly, making the smile even more broad. "I wanted to make sure you got home safely. ""Of course, I did get home safely," I increased my tone. "Thank you so much for checking up on me."Alex rolled his
CHAPTER SIX~ALEXANDER~"I panicked when I saw James's number. Especially when he called her after. I was grateful that he didn't mention the fact that he wasn't the one who called me."Damien was already laughing so hard by the time I finished my story. "I guess she didn't ask why he called you," Damien replied. I nodded and continued eating my lunch. I perceived a strong perfume that I was already familiar with and lifted my head to see Sally walking in with elegance. I tried signalling her by winking at her so she would eat with me. I knew this was the only restaurant she would have lunch, and I wanted people to see that I was close to my wife. She didn't even turn towards my direction. She broke into a smile, and I traced her eyes to see that she was smiling at James. I tightened my grip on my spoon when she settled with him instead. I gulped, trying to hide my anger. "Are you okay?" Damien asked, staring at me with a furrowed brow. "Sally is with James," I told him."It'
CHAPTER SEVENALEXI walked into my office, still infuriated about what had happened. I was shocked to see Beverly seated there and waiting for me. I shut the door quickly and opened it again. She was still there. She turned around with a smile, and I quickly walked away, closing the door behind me. I went straight to my secretary's office. She stood up immediately when she saw me, and I knew at once that she could already sense what her offence was. "Who is that woman in my office?" I demanded. "She's your wife's friend," she replied with her hands and feet wobbling. "My wife's friend?" I retorted. "She said she has an appointment with you," she informed me. "You must be out of your mind to think you can let anyone into my office without confirming from me first!""I am sorry, sir. I thought...""You thought what?" I cut in. I pointed to her face as I moved closer to her. She tilted backwards, and her whole body vibrated in fear. "Pray to your stars that I forgive you.""It
CHAPTER EIGHTSALLY Although Alex had a frown on his face when he walked in, I still ignored him. After I heard his door close, I placed my finger on my jaw and wondered what the issue was. Alexander looked disturbed and bothered. He didn't seem okay. He probably got stressed from work.I relaxed back in the chair and crossed my legs. The plate of chin chin in front of me had gone halfway. I picked from it and began to chew as I continued enjoying my movie. Just then, I heard the doorbell ring. I looked around, and there was no maid close by. I stood up, about to walk towards the door, when I saw a maid rush downstairs and hurried to the door. I stood there for a second. I bent over to pick up my pillow so I would relax back when I began to hear raised voices. It sounded like Beverly. My heart sank, but I didn't know the reason. I decided to see for myself what was going on. Maybe Alexander asked his maids to stop my visitors from entering the house. I would deal mercilessly with
CHAPTER NINEALEXI watched Sally until she walked out of the door and shut it. I shut my eyes and bit my lip. I saw the look of disappointment she cast me before entering her room yesterday. Today, the same thing. I turned to Beverly, who was still standing in front of me. The sight of her pointy boobs irritated me. She was already pregnant, yet she still wanted to seduce me. I wondered how many more men had slept with her after I did. "You heard what my wife said, Beverly. I want you to leave.""Your wife," she repeated and scoffed. "Oh, please. Don't act like I do not know the stances you got married.""Whatever it is, this is still her home," I replied. "Since you do not want to take responsibility for your child. Maybe I should go to your fath...""Enough!" I shouted at her. These were the same words she used yesterday that made me let her stay. It wouldn't work this time. Rather than soften me, the words made me angry. I gritted my teeth and grabbed her by the arm. I lower
CHAPTER TENSALLYI kept rolling my eyes as we drove to the hotel in Alex's limousine. A guard was seated in front with the driver, but the back seat was a world of its own. Whatever we did there, the driver and guard would not hear us. We were both quiet all through the ride. As usual, Alex's eyes were fixed on his phone. I stole glances at him and could not stop admiting how charming he was. I wondered why he would not just act right. His phone soon began to ring. I stared at the screen and saw James's name displayed on the screen. He picked it up and placed the phone close to his ear. "You were supposed to send five hundred dollars today, Alex. I'm pretty sure you didn't forget that."Alex turned to me with a nervous look before he quickly pulled the phone from his ear and turned off the speaker. He placed it back beside his ear and cleared his throat before answering. "I have never promised you money. I do not have money to give to you right now. I'd give you money when I h
