CHAPTER FIVE
Alex held his phone tightly in his hands without making any attempt to pick it up until it stopped ringing. I thought that he was just being childish and ridiculous, shook my head, and walked away.My phone began to vibrate. It was James. My heart sank again, but I smiled. It was pay back time.I picked up the call and placed the phone beside my ear and turned towards the chair to see if Alex could see me.I gasped when I didn't see him there. Rather, I felt him behind me."You just got married, and you are sleeping around already. Why didn't you save your father's business that way?"I hurried away from him."Thanks for flashing me, miss world," James teased me, and I blushed.I turned around and saw Alex seated on his spot again."It's my pleasure," I replied loudly, making the smile even more broad."I wanted to make sure you got home safely. ""Of course, I did get home safely," I increased my tone. "Thank you so much for checking up on me."Alex rolled his eyes and leaned on the couch. He was probably not concerned about whatever I did with James behind the scenes as he had said.Maybe he truly only cared about his company."I hope that we can eat lunch together tomorrow," James offered."Of course," I replied."The restaurant close to your company," he informed me.I agreed nonchalantly, and he ended the call after thanking me.I stood by the stairs and fixed my eyes on Alex. He was still as calm and charming as he was five years ago. The same man I married, who seemed so gentle towards everything.I wondered what it would feel like to have him in my pants. He would be as tender and as gentle as he was right now.Alexander didn't spare me another glance. His eyes were fixed on his phone. He seemed to be doing something very serious with the way he was sweating and the seriousness on his face.I sighed deeply and walked up the stairs without sparing him another glance.I walked in the beat way that I could, hoping that for a second, he would turn around to stare at me.****I got to work feeling very tired and hungry. I didn't eat dinner the previous night because I was avoiding another fight with Alex.I also left the house very early in the morning to avoid any encounter with him."Ma'am. Here is your coffee," my secretary informed, placing the cup of coffee on my table.I was carried away that I didn't even see her walk in."Thanks."She walked away, and I sat down to drink the coffee. After having the coffee, I pulled out some documents from my drawer.I suddenly remembered the agreement to eat lunch with James and my heart sank. The hunger in my stomach would not let me think about anything else but lunch.I needed someone like James Whites to build my company back to its feet. So, I had to put up with him until I got what I wanted.A soft knock came on my door, and the door slightly went open. My secretary pushed her head in."Your meeting is in two minutes, ma'am," she informed me.I nodded and waved her off. I stood up and walked towards my fridge. I grabbed a bottle of fruit juice and gulped it down. I walked into the bathroom to wash my face and reapply my makeup.I grabbed my file and walked out of my office. When I walked into the meeting room, the board members and shareholders were already seated and waiting patiently for me.After all the greetings and formalities, the meeting started properly. Everyone seemed to be talking about asking my husband for support."Raymond did wrong by duping his own company. He would never go unpunished. The same company that placed him on salary for eleven years," Mr Clement cursed."He was our most trusted financial personnel. That was the reason Mr. Grande made him the financial manager. Not up to two years, he became greedy."I was getting bored already."Thankfully, our CEO married a billionaire. She could easily ask him for support. And we would get the company back on her feet," Mr's Roseline suggested."We also saw her with James Whites," one of them said.Others who weren't aware of the picture that circulated gasped. I forced a shy smile."With James Whites, we wouldn't lose this company. "While walking towards the restaurant to have lunch with James. I became more desperate than determined to work things out with the company. When I walked in, I didn't struggle to find James. He was dressed in all white, and the table he booked was not crowded around it. I knew he owned the white limousine with guards around it.I walked towards him, and he came to me with his hands spread for a hug. I shook him and pretended I didn't know that he wanted a hug instead. He grabbed a seat and pulled it out for me to sit."Thank you, " I appreciated him.He nodded."I ordered samosa with spring rolls for us," he told me."Appetisers?" I asked him.He shook his head."Main dish, of course."The waiters soon arrived with his order. He also ordered that they served him the most expensive wine. I gulped when I heard a million dollars.I thought it would have been best for him to invest that money in my company. It would go a long way."You look even prettier every other day," he praised me.I just couldn't help whenever I got compliments. My lips broke into a smile."Sir," I called and was about to continue when he lifted his hands. His brows were squeezed into a frown."James!" He corrected.I nodded and pushed some documents to his side."I want to pitch some business ideas to you. Maybe your company would be ready to invest."He bit from his snack and placed the remains on the plate. I was a bit uncomfortable because I woudlnr survive if I ate just this.I texted Julie to buy me some food and drop it on my table while I waited for him to finish chewing so he could attend to me."Tricky, right?" He asked as he fixed his gaze on my face. "You skipped the name. "I forced a tight lip smile."A beautiful princess like you do not need to pitch their ideas to me. I would invest, even though it's a merry go round you want to build in your company. "I giggled, and he winked at me."People like you should not even walk on the bare floor, " he teased me.I found myself laughing so hard."You should be carried," he continued. "If you were mine, I wouldn't even let people see you. Only the thought of other men staring at you would break my heart."I knew I wouldnt be able to pitch my idea to James today, while we ate. We chatted and I laughed really hard. He leaned forward and fixed his gaze on mine. I narrowed my eyes, waiting for hon to speak."I thought you looked better when you have dust in your eyes. That was because I hadn't seen you laugh this way.""Oh, my!" I exclaimed with my hands placed on my chest.James was cute and funny. He made my heart flutter. I wished that Alex would say all of this to me.At the thought of Alex, he appeared in front of me, and my heart sank into my stomach. Why was he here?CHAPTER SIX~ALEXANDER~"I panicked when I saw James's number. Especially when he called her after. I was grateful that he didn't mention the fact that he wasn't the one who called me."Damien was already laughing so hard by the time I finished my story. "I guess she didn't ask why he called you," Damien replied. I nodded and continued eating my lunch. I perceived a strong perfume that I was already familiar with and lifted my head to see Sally walking in with elegance. I tried signalling her by winking at her so she would eat with me. I knew this was the only restaurant she would have lunch, and I wanted people to see that I was close to my wife. She didn't even turn towards my direction. She broke into a smile, and I traced her eyes to see that she was smiling at James. I tightened my grip on my spoon when she settled with him instead. I gulped, trying to hide my anger. "Are you okay?" Damien asked, staring at me with a furrowed brow. "Sally is with James," I told him."It'
CHAPTER SEVENALEXI walked into my office, still infuriated about what had happened. I was shocked to see Beverly seated there and waiting for me. I shut the door quickly and opened it again. She was still there. She turned around with a smile, and I quickly walked away, closing the door behind me. I went straight to my secretary's office. She stood up immediately when she saw me, and I knew at once that she could already sense what her offence was. "Who is that woman in my office?" I demanded. "She's your wife's friend," she replied with her hands and feet wobbling. "My wife's friend?" I retorted. "She said she has an appointment with you," she informed me. "You must be out of your mind to think you can let anyone into my office without confirming from me first!""I am sorry, sir. I thought...""You thought what?" I cut in. I pointed to her face as I moved closer to her. She tilted backwards, and her whole body vibrated in fear. "Pray to your stars that I forgive you.""It
CHAPTER EIGHTSALLY Although Alex had a frown on his face when he walked in, I still ignored him. After I heard his door close, I placed my finger on my jaw and wondered what the issue was. Alexander looked disturbed and bothered. He didn't seem okay. He probably got stressed from work.I relaxed back in the chair and crossed my legs. The plate of chin chin in front of me had gone halfway. I picked from it and began to chew as I continued enjoying my movie. Just then, I heard the doorbell ring. I looked around, and there was no maid close by. I stood up, about to walk towards the door, when I saw a maid rush downstairs and hurried to the door. I stood there for a second. I bent over to pick up my pillow so I would relax back when I began to hear raised voices. It sounded like Beverly. My heart sank, but I didn't know the reason. I decided to see for myself what was going on. Maybe Alexander asked his maids to stop my visitors from entering the house. I would deal mercilessly with
CHAPTER NINEALEXI watched Sally until she walked out of the door and shut it. I shut my eyes and bit my lip. I saw the look of disappointment she cast me before entering her room yesterday. Today, the same thing. I turned to Beverly, who was still standing in front of me. The sight of her pointy boobs irritated me. She was already pregnant, yet she still wanted to seduce me. I wondered how many more men had slept with her after I did. "You heard what my wife said, Beverly. I want you to leave.""Your wife," she repeated and scoffed. "Oh, please. Don't act like I do not know the stances you got married.""Whatever it is, this is still her home," I replied. "Since you do not want to take responsibility for your child. Maybe I should go to your fath...""Enough!" I shouted at her. These were the same words she used yesterday that made me let her stay. It wouldn't work this time. Rather than soften me, the words made me angry. I gritted my teeth and grabbed her by the arm. I lower
CHAPTER TENSALLYI kept rolling my eyes as we drove to the hotel in Alex's limousine. A guard was seated in front with the driver, but the back seat was a world of its own. Whatever we did there, the driver and guard would not hear us. We were both quiet all through the ride. As usual, Alex's eyes were fixed on his phone. I stole glances at him and could not stop admiting how charming he was. I wondered why he would not just act right. His phone soon began to ring. I stared at the screen and saw James's name displayed on the screen. He picked it up and placed the phone close to his ear. "You were supposed to send five hundred dollars today, Alex. I'm pretty sure you didn't forget that."Alex turned to me with a nervous look before he quickly pulled the phone from his ear and turned off the speaker. He placed it back beside his ear and cleared his throat before answering. "I have never promised you money. I do not have money to give to you right now. I'd give you money when I h
CHAPTER ELEVEN ALEX I swallowed hard and folded my fist. I couldn't believe that James came all the way here. For what? He should be mature enough to know that he is supposed to stay away from couples fights. "Why are you here, Whites?" I demanded and scoffed. "I can't believe you followed us down here."James winked at me and moved even closer to Sally. He placed his hand on her shoulder, and I gritted my teeth. Sally turned around to stare at his hold on her shoulder. She lifted her head, stole a glance at me, and turned back to face James. "What did you mean by the last statement you made?" James asked Sally. I pushed James's hands forcefully off Sally's shoulder. "It is none of your business!" I shouted at him. He turned to me sharply, and I was forced to take a step closer to him. James had an annoying grin on his face. I knew he was trying to ruin my reputation. He wanted to be the biggest thing in the business world, and my foolish contracted wife was helping, too.I po
CHAPTER TWELVESALLYI turned to James and ge gave me a questioning glare. I said nothing to him. He also didn't speak to me, so we just turned around and began walking into the hall together. It was awkward. James was cold. I knew he would have said something funny already, but he didn't. I turned to him when we were close enough to the VVIP seat. "You were here earlier?" I asked him. "Just like you, I excuse myself for a second."I nodded. We walked to my seat together, and he moved my chair backwards for me to sit."Thanks," I muttered and forced a smile. James, the celebrant, beckoned on him to come forward. He walked towards him and lowered himself to his ear. They whispered a few words to each other before James came to sit beside me. "Are you okay?" The celebrant asked me. I nodded and forced a smile. "Of course."I looked around the table and searched the hall of Alexander. I suspected that he had left cause I heard the sound of his car. My heartbeat increased, and I
CHAPTER THIRTEEN SALLYI walked out after the meeting ended. The meeting lasted for longer than sheduled, and the plan was to lock myself up in my office and sleep for thirty minutes. I was completely drained. I opened the door to my office and was shocked to see Beverly parading my office. I tilted my head backwards and turned to my secretary, whose head was buried on her system. I wanted to ask her why she let Beverly in, but decided to let it go. I opened the door freely and walked straight to my table, ignoring Beverly completely. "Hello, love," Beverly greeted me with a mocking tone. "Love?" I asked and scoffed. "I'm very tired right now and do not have the time for your drama.""You always do."Beverly pulled out the chair in front of me and sat on it. She placed her leg on my table, and I rolled my fist. "You didn't even at least ask the reason I'm here.""Asking means I'm ready to entertain you. I'm not, so get the fuck out of my office.""Come on, don't be like that,"
