CHAPTER FOUR
SALLY"Let go of me!" I shouted as I pushed him away.Although, I had waited to enjoy the kiss for about thirty seconds. His lips were soft and addictive.I bit my lower lip with my eyes tightly shut as I reminisced on Alex's kiss. The short kiss during the wedding didn't count because neither of us paid attention to it. I didn't even note what it tasted like. It was short and quick. But, the kiss in my room, there was something about it that I could not understand.A knock on my door jerked me out of my thoughts. The door opened lightly and my secretary walked into my office."Greetings, ma'am," she greeted me as she bowed her head in front of me."You are late again?""No, ma'am," she responded. "Mr James is here to see you."I narrowed my eyes. I wasn't expecting any Mr James."He said he doesn't have an appointment, but the reason he's asking to see you is urgent.""Bring him in," I ordered. She left and returned with a nicely dressed huge figure. He lifted his cute grey eyes, and my heart sank immediately after they met mine.It was the same man who made me laugh yesterday. I blinked thrice and gulped saliva. His perfume and the way he was dressed already gave him out as a big thing. I didn't pick any interest in him yesterday, so I didn't take note of his looks. Why was he here? I thought as I stared at him with eyes and mouth wide open."Ma'am," my secretary called out, jerking me from my thoughts. "Here he is.""Thanks," I replied with a smile, and she walked away.James pulled out the armchair in front of me and sat on it with his legs crossed."What do you want?" I asked, staring at him all over."Anderson fashion world," he called, a smile playing on his lips.I pressed my lips, and let out a smile."I've been following your brand for years. I've always wanted to invest in this company. I heard you designed those dresses and shoes. And believe me, the ones you model suit you perfectly. "I smiled."Thanks.""You married a model, too," he said, touching his beard. "It's so sad that you married the day I met you in person."I gave out another nervous smile. Alexander wasn't a full-time model, but I didn't want to talk about him. Especially not with James. Since they knew each other, James should be aware of that fact as well."I bet I wouldn't have a chance even though I met you earlier.""Why are you here?" I asked, still trying so hard to keep my gaze away from him."Come on, don't be like that."He lifted his palms and dropped them. I cleared my throat and leaned backwards, resting my back on my chair.I decided not to let him bully me. He didn't sound as friendly and as funny as he sounded yesterday."Let's just say, love at first sight brought me here."I snorted. There was no way in this world he'd love me because we talked and laughed at each other's jokes."Here," he said, placing his card on the table. "James Whites. CEO of White group of companies. "My eyes widened. I could not believe my ears. Was he the CEO of Whites? How come I didn't know this?I stared at the card on the table for a while and lifted my gaze to him."I always wanted to advertise my product to your company because it has a wide marketing range. The best in the business world. "I paused for a while and stared at him."They never allowed my manager to meet with you.""Why didn't you come to me by yourself?" He asked. "Who knows, I'd have married you instead."I cleared my throat. James was becoming annoying, but I knew I needed him to be able to get my company back on its feet. That way, I could divorce Alex. If he became more annoying, I'd have to let him go because my peace of mind was what mattered most.I began to manage the company and attend meetings at age sixteen, and at eighteen, I was made CEO. My dad was still the chairman and was running almost all the affairs underground.Hearing that the company would go bankrupt broke me, and that was the only reason I was still here. I'd have disappeared after hearing I'd marry on a contract marriage.Or, that was what I told myself, so I wouldn't feel bad about the fact that I was excited about marrying Alex on contract despite being a woman advocate.Again, I owe my life and everything I am to my family. I can not be ungrateful. I needed to repay the good did now that it was in my power to. All of these and more were the excuses I made."We would talk more some other time."James stared at his wristwatch as he stood up to his feet. He walked out of my office without anything else said.I placed my hand on my chest and breathed out heavily.****"You were with James today at the office, " I heard Alex's voice immediately when I stepped into the sitting room.My heart almost jumped out of my chest. I turned around and the lights went on. Alex was seated there in the dark, with his legs crossed."I thought you run a company? Why do you seem jobless?" I asked him.He stood up and started walking towards me. I took steps backwards when he came to me. I stopped walking, and he took two more steps before he stopped."You startled me, though," I told him, as I placed my hand over my chest.Alex stared at me from my head, down to my toe and back to my head again."What is going on between you and James?" He asked me.I shook my head, frustrated at Alex's obsession."What do you care?" I asked him. "By the way, why are you on my neck?"I squeezed my brows and took a step close to him."Do you have someone following me?" I asked him. "Are you now tailing me? Did you hire someone to watch over my every move? Or you planted something on me?""Stop being unreasonable!" He scolded me.Alex breathed out heavily and stayed quiet for a while. The next time he spoke, it came out calmly."Did you check the time? Are you coming from his house?"I was amused. In as much as the question came out calm his voice was low. It was still annoying and amusing at the same time. Alexander was calm and sweet. No one would easily notice his arrogance from his actions and how calmly his rudeness came out."Are you jealous?" I whispered before adding his name calmly. "Alex?"He scoffed."Jealous of what?" He inquired. "You or Whites?"He clapped his hands."Why would I be jealous of you?""I don't know, you tell me."Alex pointed his finger to my face."I told you already, I do not care what you do with your life or not. I just don't want you out there, tarnishing my image. I do not want anything that would ruin the reputation of my company and my family name.""Enough!" I shouted at him, raising my hand in the air. "Enough."Alex was quiet."You're just so selfish, Alex. It's all about your status, your company, and your family. It's always about you, Alex. What about the life you ruined? I am too young to be entangled in his kind of mess called marriage. ""Then leave!" He dared me. "You blame me all the time like I forced you into the marriage. Aren't we victims of the same circumstances?"I sighed heavily."Of course," I said coldly and moved closer to Alex.I made sure I was standing close enough to Alex before voicing out the words I knew would make him go crazy."You always talk about family as though you have one."I watched Alex's knees grow weak, and he began to grit his teeth as he folded his fist.Just as he was about to react, his phone began to vibrate in his hands, and I moved my eyes to the screen."James Whites?" My heart sank. "Why is he calling you?"CHAPTER FIVE Alex held his phone tightly in his hands without making any attempt to pick it up until it stopped ringing. I thought that he was just being childish and ridiculous, shook my head, and walked away. My phone began to vibrate. It was James. My heart sank again, but I smiled. It was pay back time. I picked up the call and placed the phone beside my ear and turned towards the chair to see if Alex could see me. I gasped when I didn't see him there. Rather, I felt him behind me. "You just got married, and you are sleeping around already. Why didn't you save your father's business that way?"I hurried away from him. "Thanks for flashing me, miss world," James teased me, and I blushed. I turned around and saw Alex seated on his spot again. "It's my pleasure," I replied loudly, making the smile even more broad. "I wanted to make sure you got home safely. ""Of course, I did get home safely," I increased my tone. "Thank you so much for checking up on me."Alex rolled his
CHAPTER SIX~ALEXANDER~"I panicked when I saw James's number. Especially when he called her after. I was grateful that he didn't mention the fact that he wasn't the one who called me."Damien was already laughing so hard by the time I finished my story. "I guess she didn't ask why he called you," Damien replied. I nodded and continued eating my lunch. I perceived a strong perfume that I was already familiar with and lifted my head to see Sally walking in with elegance. I tried signalling her by winking at her so she would eat with me. I knew this was the only restaurant she would have lunch, and I wanted people to see that I was close to my wife. She didn't even turn towards my direction. She broke into a smile, and I traced her eyes to see that she was smiling at James. I tightened my grip on my spoon when she settled with him instead. I gulped, trying to hide my anger. "Are you okay?" Damien asked, staring at me with a furrowed brow. "Sally is with James," I told him."It'
CHAPTER SEVENALEXI walked into my office, still infuriated about what had happened. I was shocked to see Beverly seated there and waiting for me. I shut the door quickly and opened it again. She was still there. She turned around with a smile, and I quickly walked away, closing the door behind me. I went straight to my secretary's office. She stood up immediately when she saw me, and I knew at once that she could already sense what her offence was. "Who is that woman in my office?" I demanded. "She's your wife's friend," she replied with her hands and feet wobbling. "My wife's friend?" I retorted. "She said she has an appointment with you," she informed me. "You must be out of your mind to think you can let anyone into my office without confirming from me first!""I am sorry, sir. I thought...""You thought what?" I cut in. I pointed to her face as I moved closer to her. She tilted backwards, and her whole body vibrated in fear. "Pray to your stars that I forgive you.""It
CHAPTER EIGHTSALLY Although Alex had a frown on his face when he walked in, I still ignored him. After I heard his door close, I placed my finger on my jaw and wondered what the issue was. Alexander looked disturbed and bothered. He didn't seem okay. He probably got stressed from work.I relaxed back in the chair and crossed my legs. The plate of chin chin in front of me had gone halfway. I picked from it and began to chew as I continued enjoying my movie. Just then, I heard the doorbell ring. I looked around, and there was no maid close by. I stood up, about to walk towards the door, when I saw a maid rush downstairs and hurried to the door. I stood there for a second. I bent over to pick up my pillow so I would relax back when I began to hear raised voices. It sounded like Beverly. My heart sank, but I didn't know the reason. I decided to see for myself what was going on. Maybe Alexander asked his maids to stop my visitors from entering the house. I would deal mercilessly with
CHAPTER NINEALEXI watched Sally until she walked out of the door and shut it. I shut my eyes and bit my lip. I saw the look of disappointment she cast me before entering her room yesterday. Today, the same thing. I turned to Beverly, who was still standing in front of me. The sight of her pointy boobs irritated me. She was already pregnant, yet she still wanted to seduce me. I wondered how many more men had slept with her after I did. "You heard what my wife said, Beverly. I want you to leave.""Your wife," she repeated and scoffed. "Oh, please. Don't act like I do not know the stances you got married.""Whatever it is, this is still her home," I replied. "Since you do not want to take responsibility for your child. Maybe I should go to your fath...""Enough!" I shouted at her. These were the same words she used yesterday that made me let her stay. It wouldn't work this time. Rather than soften me, the words made me angry. I gritted my teeth and grabbed her by the arm. I lower
CHAPTER TENSALLYI kept rolling my eyes as we drove to the hotel in Alex's limousine. A guard was seated in front with the driver, but the back seat was a world of its own. Whatever we did there, the driver and guard would not hear us. We were both quiet all through the ride. As usual, Alex's eyes were fixed on his phone. I stole glances at him and could not stop admiting how charming he was. I wondered why he would not just act right. His phone soon began to ring. I stared at the screen and saw James's name displayed on the screen. He picked it up and placed the phone close to his ear. "You were supposed to send five hundred dollars today, Alex. I'm pretty sure you didn't forget that."Alex turned to me with a nervous look before he quickly pulled the phone from his ear and turned off the speaker. He placed it back beside his ear and cleared his throat before answering. "I have never promised you money. I do not have money to give to you right now. I'd give you money when I h
CHAPTER ELEVEN ALEX I swallowed hard and folded my fist. I couldn't believe that James came all the way here. For what? He should be mature enough to know that he is supposed to stay away from couples fights. "Why are you here, Whites?" I demanded and scoffed. "I can't believe you followed us down here."James winked at me and moved even closer to Sally. He placed his hand on her shoulder, and I gritted my teeth. Sally turned around to stare at his hold on her shoulder. She lifted her head, stole a glance at me, and turned back to face James. "What did you mean by the last statement you made?" James asked Sally. I pushed James's hands forcefully off Sally's shoulder. "It is none of your business!" I shouted at him. He turned to me sharply, and I was forced to take a step closer to him. James had an annoying grin on his face. I knew he was trying to ruin my reputation. He wanted to be the biggest thing in the business world, and my foolish contracted wife was helping, too.I po
CHAPTER TWELVESALLYI turned to James and ge gave me a questioning glare. I said nothing to him. He also didn't speak to me, so we just turned around and began walking into the hall together. It was awkward. James was cold. I knew he would have said something funny already, but he didn't. I turned to him when we were close enough to the VVIP seat. "You were here earlier?" I asked him. "Just like you, I excuse myself for a second."I nodded. We walked to my seat together, and he moved my chair backwards for me to sit."Thanks," I muttered and forced a smile. James, the celebrant, beckoned on him to come forward. He walked towards him and lowered himself to his ear. They whispered a few words to each other before James came to sit beside me. "Are you okay?" The celebrant asked me. I nodded and forced a smile. "Of course."I looked around the table and searched the hall of Alexander. I suspected that he had left cause I heard the sound of his car. My heartbeat increased, and I
