Madeline's POV
"Hello John," I murmured through the receiver.
"Hello homewrecker," John replied and I could definitely see him laughing or grinning. I'd bet he found my predicament quite hilarious at the moment.
"Quit it," I hissed through my teeth, angry at the way he'd behaved. How could he call me that? Homewrecker?! All because of a stupid woman who.knew nothing more than shoving her hands in people's faces.
"Oh come on," He taunted. "Don't be a spoilsport. You should see all the names you're called. Some are quite colorful. And some are just plain terrible. Once again America has demonstrated its lack of intelligent life."
"I guess that makes you stupid, just like the rest of us," I scoffed. Why had I bothered calling John? He was a dumbass.
"I wouldn't be so quick to judge," John chided. "You know me
Adam's POV"Well that went well," I grumbled, stepping out of the boardroom with mother in tow. She had a grave look on her face. One that she had through the entire meeting, even when she had spoken about her decisions.I couldn't blame her. She was shaken. I hadn't seen the news until Mother had rushed into the boardroom a few minutes before it started, looking like she had seen a ghost. She looked white as hell. I didn't like it. Hell thinking about it now as we walked down the hallway towards my office, made me feel queasy. I had been terrified when I had seen her look all pale and thrifty and then I had been even more terrified when it looked like she couldn't speak."Mr Stone? The meetings with the marketing and publicity team?" Lillian called as soon as we reached my office. "Oh hello Mrs Stone,""Hi Lillian, how are you doing?" Mother g
Tom's POV"Where is the report from the design team?" I asked my pathetic excuse of a secretary. She trembled before me as if I held a knife in one hand instead of a document."Ah, it's... It's on the way,"I frowned. "What the hell does that even mean?""I mean," she blubbered. "I had asked the design team and they had said they would send it in as soon as they could.""And I'm guessing that isn't soon enough? And quit shaking like a damned fish!”She flinched at my sharp words but managed to stammer out, "I can... I can call them again if you want, sir."She was useless. She ought to have called them a long time ago dammit. What the hell had I hired her for? I knew I should have gotten a male assistant.I waved her off impatiently. "Do that. And make sure th
Tom's POV"I don't understand what you're saying,"I was in Finn's hideout. The gnarly one that was found downtown New York. The same one that made my skin crawl every single time I walked into it. Not because it repulsed me. But because it reminded me too much of the past. The past before Tom Harrison that got married to Eve. It wasn't a very sightly one. And I hated anything that reminded me of that past. Anything like the tall buff men standing at the door, laughing among themselves behind me.They had laughed the same way when I stepped out of my car and walked into the house. As if they knew something I didn't know. I didn't like the feeling that was caused in my stomach. Made me feel queasy and weak, like a fucking pathetic fool. But the last thing I was, was pathetic. I had sacrificed so much to get to where I was. I had done all I
Tom's POV"Why are we going to a hospital?"Somehow I felt foolish asking a question like that. The men around certainly made me feel even more foolish because they laughed like a bunch of hyenas.Barlow jumped to his feet, scrunching up his face so that his pig nose stood out. "Come on Tom, don't be a Ninny,""You're a ninny!" I snapped, rising on my feet. "You just announced we were going to a hospital. I don't understand why?""I thought you'd rather not know," Finn shrugged, walking towards a shelf on his wall. "Just do as I say and everything should turn out fine.""That doesn't sound very comforting," I grumbled. I knew I was entering a shady deal with him, or that I was knee deep in it already. I just didn't expect he would be shady about it as well.Dragging out a drawer from the she
Madeline's POVAvila.Mrs Stone. The thing with Senator Kelly. I was tired. It had been a week since the news, blogs and articles had carried the news about me and senator Kelly's affair. His wife had come to the company I was to attend the stakeholders meeting and caused a scene, nearly clawing my face off in the process. Vicious Avila Kelly. Vicious bitch!I couldn't afford to let my guard down, not even for a moment. First I had to do all but worry about the scandal and how it would definitely affect Isabella Stone's view of me. I hoped that it wouldn't.But yet I couldn't bring myself to see her. I had stayed cooped up in my house until I was sure I would go mad.As much as I wanted to unwind and enjoy the spa day that I had gifted myself, I knew I had to make a decisio
Adam's POV"You're done with all of them?"My assistant gasped, staring at the pile of documents that stood as tall as her on my desk. Hell if I were in her shoes as well, I would be surprised. But I had done the work. I sat through every single one of those documents for a week and I knew exactly how backbreaking working on them had been."You know Lillian, a true assistant would not sound so shocked. I've been on them for a week." I said, feeling quite proud of myself. It had been pure madness, but running a five star company was pure madness in the first place. Along with all the unwanted attention that came with it."There were six hundred documents, Mr Stone. They were supposed to last you two weeks if I remember the schedule correctly. Doing that amount of paperwork in a week is insane. How are you even talking right now?"I laughed at her word
Eve's POV"Eve!" Tom bellowed upstairs. I dropped the ladle I had been using to mix the porridge and sighed. What was it now? What did he want? He had woken up in a foul mood that morning and so was determined that everyone else had a bad mood as well.I glanced behind me to see Nuren, our maid, wiping the dishes with a sour look on her face. I couldn't blame her, I was close to crying, myself."Eve!" Tom bellowed again and grudgingly, I walked out of the kitchen to see him standing on the stairs that led up to our bedroom."Yes Tom,""Don't "Yes To" me!" He snapped, half dressed with his white shirt and black suit pants. There was a tie hanging off his neck, halfway done. "Where's my tie?!"I frowned, cocking my head to the side. "What tie?""Don't give me that dumb look! I told you to pick
Madeline's POV"What now?" When John had suggested meeting outside, I had almost called him the hunchback of Notre Dame. Except the hunch bank was quite smart and John wasn't.Okay perhaps that wasn't entirely true as I came to find out.I had refused at first because the press attacks had worsened! I thought they had reduced for a while, but Avila found new pictures of me and her dear late husband, spread them all over the news like the attention seeker she was and now the nation was out for my blood again. So freaking annoying!I could barely leave the house, without being swarmed by reporters. So when John had suggested meeting at a cafe to discuss his findings on Avila and anything else to use against Adam, I had shot him down. Technically he deserved it. He hadn't said the important bit first.H
