“You told me it was over," she spoke. "Do you have feelings for this slut?"
"I love her. I want to be with her, not you," he replied. "There is nothing you can do to change that."
"I don't understand," she screamed, "She is nothing, a nobody. Have your fling like you always do, and be done with her. I am not moving out of the way for that, that woman."
"No, you don't understand," he declared. "You never meant anything to me. You were a business deal—a marriage of convenience. I have what I want from you. I fulfilled my obligation. Now I want a divorce."
She picked up the crystal vase and threw it in the direction of his head. He moved just in time to dodge it. It struck the fireplace brick and shattered in a ton of jagged shards.
"ARE YOU CRAZY?" He stared at her, bewildered.
"You're the one that has lost your mind," she said coyly. "I will take you for EVERYTHING you are worth. Let's see how long it lasts when your reputation is smeared all over the sidewalk."
"Are you threatening me?" He laughed.
"Call it what you want. I will destroy you," she responded.
"You seem to have forgotten two very important points," he snarled at her, "First of all, you signed an ironclad prenup agreement. Second, I have the photos, remember?"
"You wouldn't!" She yelled.
"Try me."
"You will regret this," she threatened. "You both will regret this."
"The only thing I regret is the fact that I married you in the first place," he replied. He turned and walked out the door, leaving her standing there.
As soon as the door closed, she reached for her phone. "Come on, pick up the phone," she said with disdain.
"Hello," a male voice answered.
"Evander, we need to meet," she advised.
"When?" Evander asked, "Same location as usual?"
"Tomorrow, 10 am. Regular location," she demanded. "I will pay 4 times the regular rate. This is a special request. It needs to be done quickly and discreetly."
"You can count on my team," Evander said.
"Good," She hung up the line.
The maid walked in. "Clean up this mess," she barked at the maid and sashayed out of the room.
NEXT DAY
"How long do we have to wait for this lady," the dark-haired man said to his partner.
"As long as it fucking takes," Evander replied, "She is paying us enough to retire."
"Really? She must want these people dead," the dark-haired man shook his head.
The room was so dark that he barely knew she had entered except for the sound of her high heels clicking their way across the floor. He shivered as a cold aura of power hit his body as she approached.
“You understand,” she said in an elegant voice. “It needs to look like an accident.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Evander said, “my team is the best there is. No one will even question their deaths.”
“For what I'm paying you,” she declared, “it better be good. I want them gone. I want them to feel the pain they have given me for all these years. I want everyone that loves them to suffer. To live with pain for the rest of their lives. You have one week.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
Once again, her heels clicked along the floor, this time signaling her departure. The door snapped shut.
Evander shook his head, “That is one cold-hearted bitch.”
Amelie’s POVThere are days in your life that stand out for good or bad. Days you’ll always remember and days you wish you could forget. I remember my eighth birthday as one of the happiest days of my life. My parents surprised me and took the family to New York. First, we saw a Broadway show and then visited Times Square. The best that happened that day was my dream of standing on Wall Street. While most young girls played wedding dress up, I was carried around my dad’s old messenger briefcase and giving financial advice. I knew, one day, I would be working on this street, and I vowed this to myself as I glanced at the Bull statue. I had always been obsessed with New York and Wall Street, and the fact that I spent the day exploring it with my three favorite people made it the perfect day ever. The nonstop pace of the city drew me in, and I was captured, heart and soul. It was love at first sight. I knew this was where I belonged and could not wait to call it my home one day.Unfortu
Amelie’s POVThis. Can not.Be.Happening.Someone, please wake me up from this awful nightmare. I have been at the hospital for 3 hours now, and still no word on what was going on. It was driving me crazy. I felt nauseated. Just then, Tiffany ran into the waiting room.“Ame! Oh my gosh! I heard, and I had to come and see you,” Tiffany said as she hugged me, “Is Zander ok?”“I don’t know, Tiff. I honestly don’t know.” I burst into tears.“Shhhh, he’s going to be ok. Your love will pull him through.” She wiped my tears away and hugged me for what felt like an eternity. It was exactly what I needed.Man, I loved Tiff. She was the best friend anyone could ever have. For the past 5 years, she has been my rock, comfort, and umbrella to weather any storm. We always joked that we should just get married and forget about men. Then Tiff messed up our plans and found the most amazing boyfriend, Peter. You could tell their love for each other just by looking at them. Honestly, Peter was a god am
Nathan’s POVOh, shut up! I thought to myself. Why do they need to keep going on about the “potential” the company has? I don’t care. I’m buying the company to break it up. As of tomorrow, Blake Industries will be no more. Don’t people understand that’s what I do? I swear if I hear the word potential one more time…“Dr. Michaels,” my PA spoke, “Are you in agreement?” He slowly and inconspicuously nodded his head.“Yes,” I responded. “It was nice doing business with you, gentlemen.” We shook hands. Thank God that was over.Samuel, my PA, followed me out the door. He advised me of all the upcoming appointments for tomorrow.“I’ve cleared your schedule for the rest of this afternoon. Mr. Michaels is asking for your presence at the hospital.”I sighed, “Tell him I’ll be there in half an hour.”My grandfather’s requests were never to be ignored. Even in his old age, he demanded respect from everyone around him. He was a powerhouse, and everyone in the finance sector and beyond knew it. I
Nathan’s POVAs I pushed the elevator button to head to the VIP ward, I still thought about the beautiful goddess in the café. Why didn’t I approach her right away? I blew that chance. I sigh and run my hand through my hair.My grandfather’s room was the most oversized room on the private VIP floor. Corner room, of course. Just like his office at Michaels Investment Group. It would be my office one day, but it is now vacant. Carrington Michaels had a larger-than-life persona. Everything he did spoke of power and dominance. He garnered attention everywhere he went and demanded excellence from everyone around him. When my father passed away when I was 14 years old, my grandfather stepped in to be the father figure I needed. My mother, in her insurmountable grief, had stepped away from me after my father’s death. I had lost both parents the day my father died. I owed everything to this man. Even during my years away at boarding school, he was just a phone call or a plane ride away. He wa
Amelie’s POVI felt better after having a scone, tea, and a good cry. I couldn’t help but feel someone was watching me as I sat in the corner of the café, but when I looked up, I couldn’t see anyone there. I headed to the bathroom to freshen up and wipe my tear-stained face. Oh my god, I looked like a mess. I dug through my purse to find my make-up bag. Luckily, I had a face wipe and proceeded to freshen up.I headed to the front information desk of the hospital.“Hi, my brother, Zander Cavanaugh, was brought in earlier, and they said they were moving him to a room. Can you please tell me where his room is?” I politely asked.“Ah yes, Zander Cavanaugh, Room 412 on the VIP floor.” She spoke.“I think that’s a mistake. We can’t afford the VIP floor. Can you please recheck?” I glance at her, puzzled.“No, that’s his room. We are bursting at the seams today with patients. Dr. Carrera advised the hospital to put your brother on the VIP floor. The hospital is not charging you for the room.
Nathan’s POVI was finding it hard to concentrate on anything today. Yesterday, I ran into the girl of my dreams. “Amelie,” I purr. The taste of her name on my lips was delicious. I had never been affected by a woman like this before. I needed to know her, to possess her, to consume her. I thought of all the things that I would do to her. How my lips would taste every inch of her body. How I would make her cum repeatedly until I was ready to claim her and slam myself inside her. Oh, how I would mark her with my cum. I was rock hard thinking about it, even though I had jerked off twice in the shower this morning to the vision of her face. I couldn’t get rid of the hard-on that had persisted since I met her yesterday.“Dr. Michaels? Dr. Michaels?”I glanced up to find Samuel standing in front of my desk. How long had he been standing there?“Lost in thought?” Samuel smiles. If he only knew all the sinful things floating through my mind right now, I’m sure he’d be blushing. “Samuel, any
Amelie’s POVI feel so guilty going to school and leaving Zander in the hospital. I should be there for him. I need to be working to make money. I shake my head, eye on the prize Amelie, and chide myself. Onwards and Upwards.“AME!” I hear my name being screamed. I see Tiff running across the quad, waving her arms. I wave and smile at her.“Oh my gosh, Ame. Did you hear the big news?” She questions, panting out the words.“News? What news?” I cock my eyebrow at her.“Michaels Investment Group is offering a temporary position for a university student to work with the CEO’s assistant and gain business experience. They are giving a prize of $10,000 to the person who gets the position!” She looks at me with an intense gaze. “Ame! You must apply! You are a shoo-in.”“$10,000!” My heart starts racing in my chest. I have to enter; I have to win. I need that money for Zander!I was distracted the entire day. I couldn’t get the Michaels Investment Group position out of my mind. To work at su
Amelie's POVThank goodness I only had class until 1:00 pm today. I want to look perfect for the interview. Against my advice, Tiff is playing hooky from class this afternoon to help me prepare and drive me to the interview so I don't have to take the subway. After my last class, I met her in the quad, and we quickly made it to her car. We head straight to my apartment so that I can shower, do my hair and makeup, and get dressed. I make sure to put on extra deodorant because I'm so nervous that I feel like I'm already sweating buckets.Tiff rushes me into the car and drives me downtown. We arrive at the Michaels Investment building safe and sound.Tiff looks at me and says, "Ame, you have this in the bag. I have full confidence in you!" She reaches over and hugs me."I hope so," I breath nervously, "I want this position.""It's yours," she states, "now go get them tiger."I hop out of the car and stride towards the front entrance.I am so fucking nervous! Breathe, Amelie, I told mysel
Nathan’s POVI don’t want to let go of Amelie’s hand. I have a certain sense of calm when I can touch her. It feels like I have my missing piece. We’re getting close to the Historical site, and I know that I will have to stop holding her hand for even a few minutes as we get out of the helicopter. When you stand face to face with the possibility of losing the person who has your heart, it changes you. It makes everything so much clearer. I’m going to tell her that I love her tonight. We reached the rescue base, and I relinquished Amelie’s hand. I quickly alighted from the helicopter and circled over to Amelie’s door as she was opening it. I helped her out and then intertwined our fingers back together.A smiling Roy greeted us. “Well, this is the best outcome anyone could have hoped for,” Roy declared and turned to Amelie. “I hear we have you to thank for that little lady. Textbook survival skills.”“Thank you,” Amelie smiled. “Just trying to keep a level head and keep everyone calm.”
Nathan’s POVWhen she smiled down at me, I thought my heart was going to burst from excitement. I have never wanted something more in my life like I did Amelie. I wanted to declare my love for her right then and there, but everyone already thought we were in love.“Are you ok, kitten?” I yelled.“I’m better now that you are here, Schmoopie,” Amelie called back.“Did you think I wouldn’t come for you?” I declared.“No, I knew you would,” Amelie smiled.“Always,” I declared.“Oh god, you guys are making me sick,” Kimmy teased.“Right? I thought I was the only one,” Morgan giggled.Everyone broke out in laughter.“Rescue one to Moneybags. Can you shine your spotlight straight up for the exact location,” a voice came over the radio.“Roger that,” Kirk responded and pointed the spotlight straight into the air.“We have visual on you,” the voice spoke. “Do you have a count on the recovery?”“Affirmative. Two injured and three non-injured,” Kirk relayed. The rescue helicopter appeared overhe
Amelie’s POVMy heart sank. I thought they hadn’t seen the flare, so I shot a second one and waited. Then I heard it. The sound of a helicopter coming closer.“Morgan!” I shouted. “The helicopter is getting closer!”“Fuck yes!” Morgan yelled. Then she ran off to wake up Kimmy.I then saw the spotlight searching the ground. It finally landed on the tail of the plane. Then, the spotlight moved along the body of the plane until it landed on me. I waved frantically. I grinned so widely that I thought my face was going to break. My prayers had been answered.A voice came from the helicopter. Even though they were using a megaphone, I had to strain to hear it over the sound of the helicopter.“We will get you out as soon as possible,” the voice spoke. “We just need to find a place to land nearby. We’ve called for the rescue helicopter.”The helicopter turned and circled away.“Let’s close the door until they come back,” I advised Morgan. “We don’t want to lose too much heat from the plane.”
Nathan’s POVWe’ve been flying back and forth on the grid for 1 ½ hours. We haven’t seen a single clue of where they could be. It’s starting to get dark. I can see the brilliant orange and pink hues of sunset starting to appear across the sky. They are a beautiful warning that we are running out of time for today's search. How can something so spectacular bring me such a feeling of dread in the pit of my stomach?“Dr. Michaels, we have about 30 minutes before we have to call off the search,” James spoke.“Push it as long as you can,” I replied. “I want every single second used.”“Yes, sir,” James answered. We continue for another 15 minutes before something is radioed in. A plane wing has been spotted floating in a part of the lake.My heart sinks to my stomach.No. It can’t be. I won’t accept it until I see the plane for myself.“They just sent me the coordinates, Dr. Michaels,” the location specialist Miguel said, “Do you want to head over there or continue on our search?”I have an
Amelie’s POVI’ve makeshift set Nancy’s ankle and fashioned a sling out of a ripped bed sheet for Captain Thomas. The extra credit first aid & survival training I took in high school sure came in handy today. Both Nancy and Thomas are lying on the bed in the back of the plane. They need to relax and stay calm. I gave them some painkillers I had in my bag, hoping they would get some sleep. We have all tried to get reception on our phones to no avail. I even tried the radio in the flight deck.I managed to open the outside door of the plane and made sure it closed back up. If no one finds us right away, it could be a very cold night. Luckily, Kimmy found some extra blankets and towels in the bedroom. I’ve located the flares onboard. There are only three. I doubt anyone would see them during the day. I’m going to hold off on shooting them until it's dark out. It’s cold and snowy, but I’m so grateful that I listened to Nathan and dressed like a snow bunny. I giggled to myself.Oh, Nathan
Nathan’s POVI felt overwhelmed by pain. It was like someone had reached into my chest, pulled out my heart, and held it up in front of me a la Mortal Kombat.“Nathan. Nathan,” Samuel said and shook me.I looked at him in a daze. I heard sounds coming from him but couldn’t make out the words.“For fucks sake, Nathan,” Samuel yelled, “Snap out of it.”The force in his voice cut through the fog. I looked around the room, and the only people left in the boardroom were Samuel, Samira, and myself.“Captain James is on the roof with the helicopter,” Samuel declared. “You better head down to your office and change.”“Thanks, Samuel,” I said, racing out of the boardroom towards my office.Samira followed hot on my heels. She was holding her phone and talking to someone about GPS location. “Get us a map of that area,” Samira demanded. “I don’t care if authorities are already looking. We need the map like yesterday.”“Samira,” I looked at her. “Send the other jet down to Boston as soon as possi
Amelie’s POVMarcus & I just picked up Kimmy and Morgan, and we’re on our way to the airstrip. We’re all dressed up like we are going on a ski trip because Nathan insisted we dress warm due to the impending snowstorm in Boston. When we arrive at the hangar, Captain Thomas greets us outside the car door.“Hello, Ms. Amelie,” Captain Thomas said. “We are running about 15 minutes behind because the new mechanic is making minor adjustments to the engine. Nothing out of the ordinary. We should be on our way shortly.”“Sounds great, Captain Thomas,” I replied.“You ladies can wait onboard if you’d like to,” he gestured to the stairs of the plane.“Thank you,” I spoke. “Ladies, follow me!”We head up the stairs and take our seats on the plane. Nancy comes by and asks if we need anything, and Kimmy asks for three glasses and a bottle of champagne.“Kimmy,” I exclaimed, “I really shouldn’t.”“Just one glass, Amelie,” said Kimmy. “You need to build up your tolerance for the wedding. We don’t wa
Nathan’s POVFuck. I do not want to be here. I’d rather be at home chilling with my Amelie. She’s right, though; I should try to mend the relationship with my mother. Hopefully, there is something to mend.My father and mother didn’t love each other. It was an arrangement for business purposes. My grandfather on my mother’s side had a lot of financial problems. Luckily, his best friend was Carrington Michaels. My grandfather was desperate for an heir to the Michaels fortune. A deal was brokered, and financial help was given for his daughter's hand in marriage and for her to produce an heir. Their marriage was a disaster from the start, so much so that when I was born, my father had my DNA tested to make sure I was his. I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if I had a sibling out there somewhere. My father was a notorious ladies' man, and I heard my parents argue on several occasions about “sluts” in my father’s life. It’s 7:30 pm, and of course, Mother hasn’t arrived yet. Grandfather told
Nathan’s POVI had enough of work by 5:00 pm. Not that I was looking forward to seeing my mother. However, leaving at 5:00 pm would give me the opportunity to head home to see Amelie, and well, I wasn’t passing up on that. I can’t wait to get home.I grabbed my briefcase and headed out of my office.Samira looked over and grinned, “Have a safe drive home. Say hi to Amelie for me.”I chuckled, “Thanks, Samira. You can leave early, too. Great work today.”“Thanks, boss.”I waved goodbye to Samuel through the glass wall of his office. He looked at his watch, raised his eyebrow, and smiled at me. I grinned at him in return.I’m sure he had noticed the shift in my attitude towards work since I met Amelie. I used to work from 7 am to 10 pm most days. Work was my life. Not anymore. Don’t get me wrong, I still get my work done, but I wasn’t going to put in unnecessary hours like I used to. I have delegated a lot of the extra work that I used to handle myself. Samuel has been given a lot of th
