Amelie’s POV
This.
Can not.
Be.
Happening.
Someone, please wake me up from this awful nightmare. I have been at the hospital for 3 hours now, and still no word on what was going on. It was driving me crazy. I felt nauseated. Just then, Tiffany ran into the waiting room.
“Ame! Oh my gosh! I heard, and I had to come and see you,” Tiffany said as she hugged me, “Is Zander ok?”
“I don’t know, Tiff. I honestly don’t know.” I burst into tears.
“Shhhh, he’s going to be ok. Your love will pull him through.” She wiped my tears away and hugged me for what felt like an eternity. It was exactly what I needed.
Man, I loved Tiff. She was the best friend anyone could ever have. For the past 5 years, she has been my rock, comfort, and umbrella to weather any storm. We always joked that we should just get married and forget about men. Then Tiff messed up our plans and found the most amazing boyfriend, Peter. You could tell their love for each other just by looking at them. Honestly, Peter was a god among men for the way he treated her and the way he loved her so deeply. He had the purest heart, and it showed in everything he did. I just hoped that someday, I would find that kind of love.
Tiff hugged me again, “I hate to leave you, but I’m already late for work. I told Darcy about your brother, and she covered your shift at the coffee shop for tomorrow morning.”
“What would I do without you, Tiff?”
“Probably lose your mind?” We both laughed at her comment. It was true; she held me together for more days than I’d like to admit.
“I love you, Tiff. I promise to text you when I find something out.” I watched as she walked down the hall and faded into the distance.
I spotted the doctor walking towards me.
“Ms. Cavanaugh?” he questioned.
“Yes,” I blurted out as I stood.
“I’m Dr. Carrera.” He extended his hand to shake mine. “Can you follow me to my office?”
“I’m sorry about the delay. We needed to run a battery of tests on your brother to determine what was happening. Were you aware he has a heart condition?” Dr. Carrera queried.
“No, a heart condition?” I gasped in shock.
“Yes, he has a small hole in his heart called a Ventricular septal defect. Normally, the smaller holes close independently in childhood or have no symptoms.”
“What does this mean?”
“Since it is not closing on its own, we need to do surgery,” he stated, “Don’t worry, most medical insurance coverages will cover this type of surgery. If you would just reach out to your parents….”
“We don’t have parents, and we don’t have insurance.” The tears welled up in my eyes.
“Oh.” Dr. Carrera spoke.
“If he doesn’t have the surgery?” I whispered.
“Well, I wouldn’t recommend it, but if he is kept from activities and looked after, you could postpone it for a while. He must have the surgery as soon as possible.”
Zander couldn’t be held down. He was a free-spirited 17-year-old boy. He was the star quarterback for his football team and on the swim team. How was I supposed to tell him he had to give up everything he loved?
“How much is the surgery?” I felt the panic start to overtake my breathing.
“Well, I’m sure we can apply for some assistance for you, but it would probably be about $100,000.”
My heart was in my throat. I stood up, and a wave of panic overtook me. How was I supposed to get that type of money? That was the last thought I had before everything went black.
“Ms. Cavanaugh? Ms. Cavanaugh?” I woke up to Dr. Carrera leaning over me.
“What happened?”
“You fainted, Ms. Cavanaugh.” He stated.
“I’m sorry,” I blushed.
“Understandable, news like this can be quite shocking. When’s the last time you drank or ate something?”
“Yesterday,” I said.
“You need to get some food and fluids in your system, " he chided. I will have one of the nurses walk you to the café in the lobby. After that, you can visit your brother. He is stabilized now and will be moved to a room soon.”
“Thank you, Dr. Carrera.”
Nathan’s POVOh, shut up! I thought to myself. Why do they need to keep going on about the “potential” the company has? I don’t care. I’m buying the company to break it up. As of tomorrow, Blake Industries will be no more. Don’t people understand that’s what I do? I swear if I hear the word potential one more time…“Dr. Michaels,” my PA spoke, “Are you in agreement?” He slowly and inconspicuously nodded his head.“Yes,” I responded. “It was nice doing business with you, gentlemen.” We shook hands. Thank God that was over.Samuel, my PA, followed me out the door. He advised me of all the upcoming appointments for tomorrow.“I’ve cleared your schedule for the rest of this afternoon. Mr. Michaels is asking for your presence at the hospital.”I sighed, “Tell him I’ll be there in half an hour.”My grandfather’s requests were never to be ignored. Even in his old age, he demanded respect from everyone around him. He was a powerhouse, and everyone in the finance sector and beyond knew it. I
Nathan’s POVAs I pushed the elevator button to head to the VIP ward, I still thought about the beautiful goddess in the café. Why didn’t I approach her right away? I blew that chance. I sigh and run my hand through my hair.My grandfather’s room was the most oversized room on the private VIP floor. Corner room, of course. Just like his office at Michaels Investment Group. It would be my office one day, but it is now vacant. Carrington Michaels had a larger-than-life persona. Everything he did spoke of power and dominance. He garnered attention everywhere he went and demanded excellence from everyone around him. When my father passed away when I was 14 years old, my grandfather stepped in to be the father figure I needed. My mother, in her insurmountable grief, had stepped away from me after my father’s death. I had lost both parents the day my father died. I owed everything to this man. Even during my years away at boarding school, he was just a phone call or a plane ride away. He wa
Amelie’s POVI felt better after having a scone, tea, and a good cry. I couldn’t help but feel someone was watching me as I sat in the corner of the café, but when I looked up, I couldn’t see anyone there. I headed to the bathroom to freshen up and wipe my tear-stained face. Oh my god, I looked like a mess. I dug through my purse to find my make-up bag. Luckily, I had a face wipe and proceeded to freshen up.I headed to the front information desk of the hospital.“Hi, my brother, Zander Cavanaugh, was brought in earlier, and they said they were moving him to a room. Can you please tell me where his room is?” I politely asked.“Ah yes, Zander Cavanaugh, Room 412 on the VIP floor.” She spoke.“I think that’s a mistake. We can’t afford the VIP floor. Can you please recheck?” I glance at her, puzzled.“No, that’s his room. We are bursting at the seams today with patients. Dr. Carrera advised the hospital to put your brother on the VIP floor. The hospital is not charging you for the room.
Nathan’s POVI was finding it hard to concentrate on anything today. Yesterday, I ran into the girl of my dreams. “Amelie,” I purr. The taste of her name on my lips was delicious. I had never been affected by a woman like this before. I needed to know her, to possess her, to consume her. I thought of all the things that I would do to her. How my lips would taste every inch of her body. How I would make her cum repeatedly until I was ready to claim her and slam myself inside her. Oh, how I would mark her with my cum. I was rock hard thinking about it, even though I had jerked off twice in the shower this morning to the vision of her face. I couldn’t get rid of the hard-on that had persisted since I met her yesterday.“Dr. Michaels? Dr. Michaels?”I glanced up to find Samuel standing in front of my desk. How long had he been standing there?“Lost in thought?” Samuel smiles. If he only knew all the sinful things floating through my mind right now, I’m sure he’d be blushing. “Samuel, any
Amelie’s POVI feel so guilty going to school and leaving Zander in the hospital. I should be there for him. I need to be working to make money. I shake my head, eye on the prize Amelie, and chide myself. Onwards and Upwards.“AME!” I hear my name being screamed. I see Tiff running across the quad, waving her arms. I wave and smile at her.“Oh my gosh, Ame. Did you hear the big news?” She questions, panting out the words.“News? What news?” I cock my eyebrow at her.“Michaels Investment Group is offering a temporary position for a university student to work with the CEO’s assistant and gain business experience. They are giving a prize of $10,000 to the person who gets the position!” She looks at me with an intense gaze. “Ame! You must apply! You are a shoo-in.”“$10,000!” My heart starts racing in my chest. I have to enter; I have to win. I need that money for Zander!I was distracted the entire day. I couldn’t get the Michaels Investment Group position out of my mind. To work at su
Amelie's POVThank goodness I only had class until 1:00 pm today. I want to look perfect for the interview. Against my advice, Tiff is playing hooky from class this afternoon to help me prepare and drive me to the interview so I don't have to take the subway. After my last class, I met her in the quad, and we quickly made it to her car. We head straight to my apartment so that I can shower, do my hair and makeup, and get dressed. I make sure to put on extra deodorant because I'm so nervous that I feel like I'm already sweating buckets.Tiff rushes me into the car and drives me downtown. We arrive at the Michaels Investment building safe and sound.Tiff looks at me and says, "Ame, you have this in the bag. I have full confidence in you!" She reaches over and hugs me."I hope so," I breath nervously, "I want this position.""It's yours," she states, "now go get them tiger."I hop out of the car and stride towards the front entrance.I am so fucking nervous! Breathe, Amelie, I told mysel
Nathan’s POVI watched the camera focus on the waiting room after Samira had messaged me that all the candidates were present. Oh my, Amelie, how have you gotten even more beautiful? She was wearing a pencil skirt with a subtle slit up her left thigh, and when she crossed her legs, my dick went hard at the sight of the flesh of her thigh. Her white blouse was fitted in all the right places, and her hair was tied up in a high ponytail, exposing the creamy skin on her neck. Fuck! I wanted to march right out there and tell the other candidates to fuck off. Frank had then collected them and taken them into the small conference room. I switched the monitor to the conference room and watched the interview. No one could hold a candle to Amelie. Not only was she stunningly beautiful, but she also spoke eloquently and confidently with every answer she gave. She, indeed, was the complete package. When the candidates returned to the waiting room, I noticed that one of the male candidates decided
Amelie’s POVSamuel showed me to the ladies' room, and I pushed inside.I let out a huge squeal. I FUCKING GOT THE JOB! I must be dreaming. Please, no one, wake me up. I can’t believe it. I walked over to the mirror and gazed at it. You, Amelie Jane Cavanaugh, you fucking rock! I pointed at myself in the mirror.I can’t believe I can help my brother with his surgery. I still had a long way to go, but this was a start in the right direction.I quickly adjusted my ponytail, smoothed my clothes, and left the bathroom. Samuel was standing there waiting.“Well, Amelie. Welcome to the team. I can’t wait to work with you,” Samuel beamed, “Now, let’s get to dinner and finish this paperwork.”He directed me back towards the offices. As we walked towards the offices, Samuel spoke, “Relax, Amelie, you look a little tense.”“It’s a little unnerving to be here. I’ve dreamed of working for a company like this since I was a kid. While the other little girls played wedding dress up, I was carrying a
Nathan’s POVI turn my head as Amelie slips off her robe. Damn. I’m greeted by the most perfect perk ass I’ve ever seen in my life. Would it be wrong if I were to get up and bite it? I bit my lip and let out a faint cough. Both massage therapists enter the room and dim the lights. I hear the therapist speaking to Amelie and can’t believe it when she says she has never had a massage before. The way she carries herself, I always forget that she had a completely different upbringing from mine. She’s so elegant, charming, and refined. I make a mental note to ensure she’s booked for a weekly massage.Wait a minute, is that a male massage therapist she has? I requested a female one for her. No matter how professional he is, there is no way another man is rubbing his hands all over my Amelie. I motioned to Bernard, my concierge, and whispered in his ear. He motions for the therapist to switch places. The therapist starts the soft music, and I try to relax and enjoy the massage. Try is the op
Amelie’s POV“What?” I ask, puzzled. He holds out his hand to me, and I tentatively take it. We head through a set of glass doors, and the smell is overwhelming. A strong odor of sulfur and earth hits my nose. I then realize there is a massive pool of mud.“Mud?” I question.“Yes,” Nathan smiles, “mud.”“Amelie,” Charlotte says, “we’ll get you in first. Please remove your robe.”I shyly untie my robe; Charlotte holds it up and gives me some privacy as I slowly descend into the mud. I still hold my arm across my exposed chest as a precaution. I feel Nathan’s gaze on my back as I enter the mud pit. The sensation is nothing like I’ve ever felt before. Warm and squishy mud slowly overtakes my senses. I’m covered up past my breasts, thank goodness. Nathan has entered right after me. I’m a little self-conscious about being topless, but the mud is so thick I’m sure Nathan can’t see anything, plus I have my back to him.“Turn around,” Nathan requests.I hesitate to turn but then spin aroun
Nathan's POV“Ok, Amelie, let’s go,” I grab her by the hand.“What? Where are we going?” She asks, puzzled.“Well, first, we’re going to take Grandfather back to his room,” I advise. “Then you and I have a date planned.”“But I want to be here when Zander returns from surgery,” Amelie states.“You will be. I spoke with Dr. Carrera earlier this morning. He said Zander won’t return to his room until at least 4:30 pm. So that looks like we have more than six hours to kill,” I answer.“Where are we going?” She questions.I push Grandfather towards the door, “Follow me, and you’ll find out.”Amelie starts following me down the hallway, and I look back at her. She’s probably not prepared for the day I will give her today, but I want to spoil her and pamper her. She needs to relax, and she’s definitely going to do that. I smile at her, and she looks curious. After we get Grandfather settled and say our goodbyes, I lead Amelie to the elevators by the hand. We get into the elevator, and I pres
Amelie's POVI’m awoken by my alarm clock going off. It’s still dark outside, and I look around, confused. How did I get to this room? I rub my eyes and realize I’m in my room at Nathan’s. Did I pass out last night, and he carried me up?I slide out of bed and pad my way to the bathroom. I shower, then change into dark jeans and a cream-colored Aran knit fisherman’s sweater. I pull on my knee-high camel-colored boots that Nathan insisted I get and head down to the kitchen. Nathan is already in the kitchen and standing at the stove.“Good morning, sunshine,” he smiles.I stretch, “Morning, Nathan, what are you doing?”“Just making omelets for our breakfast,” he responds.“A Billionaire and a cook too?” I smile, “Man, I’ve hit the jackpot in the husband department.”Nathan lets out a hardy laugh as he’s plating up the omelets. “Service with a smile,” he says.I notice Nathan looking at my ring finger. I run my fingers over my hand. “I’m not wearing the engagement ring until we announce
Amelie’s POVI stared at the ring Nathan had placed on my finger. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. I don’t care what the contract says. I reached over, grabbed the pen, and flipped to the last page. I scribble my signature on it.“We didn’t even finish going over the details,” Nathan looked at me confused.“I trust you, Nathan. I know you won’t do anything to hurt me,” I announced. He smiles, and I feel his happiness deep down in my core. I feel like it matches mine at this moment. I almost blurted out all my feelings for him, but I stopped myself because I knew I would be making a fool of myself.Nathan popped open the champagne bottle and poured two glasses. “Well, this calls for a celebration,” he says as he hands me a glass of champagne. “To our upcoming wedding!”“To our wedding!” I exclaim, and we clink glasses.“So, what does our timeline look like?” I queried.“Well, I know Zander’s surgery is tomorrow. The surgeon said he would need at least 1–2 weeks after the s
Nathan’s POVAmelie is here, for good. I’m not letting her go. I can’t wait for us to say I do. I called ahead and had Henrique set up dinner for us to discuss the contract. I usher Amelie into the apartment, and she has a big grin.“What are you thinking about that to have you grinning so big?” I ask Amelie.“I’m just a little giddy that I get to live in an apartment with such a spectacular view,” Amelie says as she walks towards the living room window.“Oh, and here I thought it’s my companionship that was the enticing thing,” I joke, “You have mortally wounded me.” I put my hand over my heart like I’ve been stabbed.Amelie turns towards me and laughs, “Oh, Nathaniel. You’re so dramatic.”“What did you just call me?” I cock my eyebrow at her.“Nathaniel,” she giggles.“Oh really,” I walk towards her.She shrieks and runs off towards the kitchen. I follow hot on her heels. Her giggles as she tries to outmaneuver me are the cutest thing. I reach her as she’s rounding the kitchen islan
Amelie's POVIt’s only been two days, but it feels weird to be back here, especially with Nathan standing in my living room. What must he think? My apartment is worlds apart from his lifestyle. I’m embarrassed he’s here.“This is a cute little apartment,” Nathan says, “Too bad there are so many problems with it.”“Are you being sarcastic?” I questioned him.“No, why would I be sarcastic?” He asked, puzzled.“C’mon, Nathan, this apartment is nothing compared to your place.”“Amelie, do you honestly think I’m that stuck up? I know not everyone is as privileged as I am. That doesn’t make me think I’m any better than anyone else. I’m so proud of you for what you have accomplished with all the struggles you have gone through.”“I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that you’re stuck up,” I said sheepishly, “I’m embarrassed at the fact that I live here. I’ve worked hard to make a life for Zander and myself.”“LIVED here,” he commented, “and it doesn’t matter where you live, Amelie, the power and deter
Amelie’s POVWhat is going on? Why is everyone running in and out of Zander’s room?I start down the hallway towards his room, and Nathan grabs my hand.“Don’t, Amelie,” he pleads, “Let’s find out what’s going on first.”I look up at him. I know he’s right, but I can’t wait. I struggle free from his grasp, and I push my way to the door.“ZANDER!” I cry out in shock as I see an entire team working on Zander. The tears start to fall heavy. “NO! SAVE HIM! PLEASE SAVE HIM!” I sob. Suddenly, a pair of strong arms envelop me. Nathan, I can tell by his scent.“You need to leave the room so we can do our job, Miss,” a young nurse says as she backs us towards the door.“I CAN’T LEAVE HIM!” I scream. Nathan wraps his arms tighter around me and carries me out of the room.I break down sobbing once outside. Nathan loosens his grip, and I turn around to him and hug him like my life depends on it. Nathan wraps his arm around my shoulder, cradling the back of my head. I sink into his scent, which h
Nathan’s POVWe head down to my Aston Vanquish and leave the underground parking lot. As soon as they spot the car coming up the ramp, the paparazzi flashes start. Luckily, they dissipate as soon as we’re on the road to the hospital. The wait is killing me. I want Amelie to tell me she’ll marry me. I want to get married to her and make her fall in love with me. I’ve never thought I’d say it, but I want a happily ever after for the both of us. I glance at her in the passenger seat of my car. She sings along to the radio and is adorable. I can’t help but smile.“Nathan, can we stop off at Bob’s by the hospital and get a milkshake?” She asks, “Zander is complaining that he’s being fed too healthy.” She giggles.“Definitely,” I respond, “who doesn’t love Bob’s shakes.”“What’s your favorite flavor?” She enquires.“I usually get strawberry, but my absolute favorite flavor was a special flavor they had in the fall,” I spoke.“Choco-banana swirl!” Amelie excitedly exclaims.“Yes!” I nod.W
