Chapter 17

The sound of glass breaking got Avery’s attention and he followed the sound to find Zoe shaking in fear and a red colored stain on her dress.

“Zoe?” He called, walking closer to her. The maids were there too, blocking his view from what might have caused her to scream. He only saw what it was when he got closer.

She turned to look at him, still fidgeting. His eyes caught the broken glass and the doll head lying on the ground. Her dress was stained in what he realized to be fake blood and he moved closer to hold her shoulder.

“Are you okay?” He asked, trying not to frighten her.

“Someone sent this.” She said to him, gaining her voice back as she tried to remain calm. He took the note she stretched to him and read the content. Then his gaze travelled to the mess on the ground. “What does it mean, Avery?”

He shook his head immediately, leading her away and then signaled to the maids to clean up the area.
