~Carsen~

My gaze was on Darren, who caressed his furrowed brows, his eyes squinting as if he were calculating a thing or two.

With that action, it was obvious that he was worried about something.

He lets out a sigh.

“D, what's wrong?” I asked as I leaned on the wall. Darren stood up from his office chair, packed a stack of papers from his large mahogany desk, and walked up to the shelf on his right and placed the papers neatly there. He shook his head and turned to look at me.

“Those damn humans,” he cursed and gritted his teeth.

Oui, they are at it again.

“What’s the matter this time,” I asked, my gaze sweeping around the dimly lit room painted in dull colors, not like I mind it's totally Darren's kind of thing. The windows were closed, but still I could see that lonely deer ready to be killed for supper.

My gaze swept back to Darren; his dirty blonde hair was gelled to the back. His chestnut brown eyes seemed dull, and baggy circles were underneath, clearly stating he had overworked himself for the past few days. His chiseled jaw was free of beards; that only meant Sasha did a neat shave for him this morning. He placed his left hand in the side pocket of his trousers.

“That sly, Vaughn, is getting on my nerves. He's playing some tricks with my company, and it's causing a hell outta noise there,” He replied.

It's him again, the lousy human who doesn't know how to accept defeat.

Vaughn Alexander Sterling is a business tycoon who is also into shady business with the politician in Ashbourne and also Darren's business rival, or so he thinks, because Darren is way out of his league.

“Should I get rid of him?” I asked, my claws elongating at the thought of killing that annoying human. He's also been on my blacklist, but Darren is always stopping me from doing things I'd planned to do with him.

“I wish I could, but no, let's leave him,” He responded. Had it been Darren wasn't mated to Sasha, I would have said he had a weak spot for Vaughn or was probably romantically interested in him, but that's not the case.

He's deeply in love with his mate, and he loves her so much he could kill the entire human race if they dared touch his mate, our Luna.

“What does he know?” I queried, and Darren shot his head up, looking confused.

“Know what?”

“I don't get D; you are always letting him go when you ought to have broken a rib or two. Perhaps teach him a lesson that will make him never cross your path again, so I'm curious as to why you always let him go?” I press, itching to know if there's any secret between the both of them.

“Well, humans aren't worth spilling blood on. They are way lower than us; if we give them the satisfaction of our attention, then they'll leech onto us forever,” He responded and let out a hiss.

I stood up straight and walked over to the window, my eyes scanning the surroundings; the deer was long gone, the pack was quiet, and guards were stationed where they were meant to be. I gazed at him.

“You can't leave Sasha here in the pack. She can't go through this trimester without you; our future Alpha is coming soon,” I reminded him of his priorities.

Even though I am the beta of the Silvermist pack and Darren's best friend, I can't take his place forever. He is always the one who deals with the business in the city while I take care of the pack issue. I never for once liked going there; those humans are crazy and annoying as fuck, and I hate them with passion.

The more I inhale their scent or see them, it makes me want to snap their necks and kill them at a go. They are such snarky creatures, not to forget they are weak.

Even a wolf-less omega could kill them without having to exert themselves.

“That’s why I called you here; I need you to help oversee my company in the city,” he asked, and I let out a short laugh.

“You must be joking,” I said in between the horrid laugh, but he had a serious expression on.

I frowned, “No, not interested. Let Garret go instead.”

“Don’t let me get started with Garrett; you know how childish he is. Sometimes I wonder how he became my Delta; even if I wanted him to go there, I would still ask that you follow him,” He remarked, his gaze not leaving mine.

“Garret, he's strong, and I know you know he is the right person to be your delta. If you give him this task, he'll surely do it. Do not give me such silly excuses,” I insisted,

“Garret can't leave here; he just found his mate,” he replied, and I had a stoic face on. I didn't want him to see how affected I was, me being a 42-year-old wolf, and still I haven't gotten my mate.

I knew why he didn't tell me beforehand, and that's because Garrett is way younger than I am—just 22—and he found his mate. I was the only one that was old enough to have a mate but then didn't have a mate.

I craved my second half... I crave my fated mate.

I could have chosen a random person as my chosen mate, but nothing beats a fated one bestowed to you by Selene.

Knowing I have no option but to help my Alpha out, I agreed.

“Yes.”

He moved closer to my direction and hurt my back lightly, “Thanks, Carsen,” he said in an appreciative tone, and I shrugged.

I guess it's time for me to have a little break from the pack, go to the city where I hate most, and stack myself there with work.

“When am I supposed to leave?”

“Dawn tomorrow, I'll tell you everything you need to know about the issue. I trust you that no matter how annoying those creatures are, no spilling of blood,” Carsen warns.

“I can't promise that.”

~Marcie~I walked out of the exam room with Sarah beside me. Her vibrant aura radiated from every inch of her figure; she exuded warmth and confidence. Her bright smile and bright eyes seemed to light up the entire hallway, and even though the exam we had wasn't all that, Sarah just had a way to make things feel good and hopeful.Standing beside her, I felt almost doll-like with my petite frame structure and delicate features that made me fragile. I was what I would call average-height, but because I was beside Sarah, people would describe me as short, and that's because Sarah was gifted with height, and I wasn't. I took my mother's height; almost all my physical appearance was from mom and dad—only won with my stubbornness and eyes. I had his eyes—those unique multicolored blue-gray eyes which I'm grateful that I inherited.Sarah, being enthusiastic, pulled me into an embrace with her ginger hair stuff into my mouth as she crushed me. I could barely breathe as she carried my petite b

~Carsen~My eyes glazed as I listened to the monotone voices in the meeting room. Another pointless decision about quarterly sales and marketing strategies. My mind wanders, drifting to the stacks of papers awaiting me back in the office. Just two days in this damn human city, and I am already going out of my mind. This is ridiculous; even the pack issues aren't mind-wracking.“... and we need to increase our online presence…” someone droned on.How much longer?I wondered how long I was supposed to endure all this with the humans surrounding me. My gaze drifted out the window, watching the cityscape. I hope things are good in the pack.I had the urge to call Darren to check up on him and Luna. I hope we don't have any issues with those rogues; I can't just help but be worried.Maybe because I miss the pack and everything in it. It's so much different than this place; cars here and there. Noises polluted everywhere, nothing like curfew or silence.Just messy. Finally, the meeting was

~Marcie~I stepped into Kingston Enterprise, my heart beating rapidly, racing with excitement. I know this wasn't my first time, but this is my first day of work.I know if my dad hears about me working here, he's going to freak out. Freeze my account and force me to come back home, but then I'm confident that that man won't know a shit about me working here, and I'm also doing him a favor. My supervisor was a lady in a corporate red gown and her hair packed in a neat bun. Her lips a shade of red and her body, adorned with a trinket, earrings, and a necklace, walked majestically in my direction. She greeted me warmly, “Welcome to Kingston Enterprise, Emily.”Jade, I figured that her name on the tag, led me to where my table was in the office. My eyes blazed proudly when I saw a brand-new computer on my desk and a stunning view of the city.My hands felt itchy, ready to start working on this beautiful computer, which looked yummy to the eyes.“This will be your table for the next few m

~Carsen~I raked my hands down my hair as I watched her retreating figure. My teeth clenched as I remembered how delicate she was when I pinned her to the wall.I was in my office doing some work when I inhaled her scent—that chocolate mint scent laced with a fresh woody smell. It was chaotic, and before I could even pinpoint a thing or two, Rowan took over and pinned her to the wall. His eyes glazed with so much possession that he didn't want to let go.Her eyes were alluring and I knew she was checking me out, but what jerked me out of my reverie was the hidden human scent. When I called her my Mate and the reaction she gave was proof that she had no idea what that meant.Fuck!I jerked back, but Rowan wanted to pull her closer to him.I pushed him to the back of my mind and spoke rudely to her. First thing first, get her out of the office and then look for a way to get her out of this company. She can't work here, not when I know that every time I come her scent would be a distract

  • The Beta and I   Chapter 6

Marcie's POV I was about to return to my desk and resume work as Mrs. Jade had sent me on an errand earlier. As I touched my neck region, I noticed that I had bruises, and it hurt me a little bit.I rushed back to the bathroom and took a proper look at the mirror. I was injured a little bit. How could someone act as crazy as the man who pinned me to the wall? I can guess that it was his first time seeing me. Aside from his looks and charming structure, he owes me an apology for harassing me and speaking rudely to me.No matter what happens, I must remain coordinated, as it is my first day at work. I need to get my scarf to cover up the bruise on my neck. I would make him pay for his actions and behavior, but first of all have to secure my job.I started going back to my desk so that I could resume duties as other staff were already settled and working."Hi, Marcie," the voice of Mrs. Jade called from behind.I stopped for a while and then turned back to respond to her."Hope y

  • The Beta and I   Chapter 7

Carsen's POV I dismissed Darren's call when I noticed someone coming into my office. I looked and waited for the person to come out.To my greatest surprise, it was my mate whom I had encountered earlier. What could she be doing here after all the rude attitude she displayed earlier? I cannot stop imagining how she spoke to me in a very rude tone. Not only that, she ordered me to pick up the papers on the ground. As she came in, she acted as though she did not come to create issues while she demanded the presence of the CEO.Only if she knew that I was the one she was looking for. I guess when she finds out, she will regret her earlier actions. And from the look of things, she desperately needed the job to survive.I made her know that I was the one she was seeking, but reluctantly, she refused to believe me. I should not waste my precious time proving a point to a mere human. As she tried creating a big deal out of it, Logan, who was my secretary, came in at the rig

Carsen's POV This particular staff acts a bit differently. Her character is weird. Since she found out that I was a person she should not offend, she kept acting normal.I do not know the reason why she forgets that I am her CEO, and I have every single right to decide if she stays or not. There is something very interesting about her nonchalant attitude, and I would be the one to handle her issues. This workplace is going to be a living hell for her. First of all, she is going to pay for what Selene did to me.How could she give me a mere human as a mate? Knowing fully well that those creatures are weak and pathetic. Not only did she punish me with a human, but she also gave me a rude and arrogant one.In the sense that I can do nothing to change it, I cannot even question her; the lady would pay for it.I brought out my system to find out things about her and to know what was giving her the urge to disobey her CEO."Emily Martin! Marcie's POV It was already getting late, and I was still outside waiting for the clothes vendor to arrive, even though he had told me he was on his way.I would not blame him for the delays; I would rather blame the person who sent me here to punish me for what he knows he is at fault for.I kept calling the vendor, and he gave me excuses and asked me to be patient. One thing I hated doing was going home late or being seen hanging around at night; besides, the country is not even too safe at night. After waiting for almost two hours, he finally arrived. As he saw the deadly look on my face, he started smiling from afar. All I did at the moment was ask myself who the hell he was smiling with, because I probably knew it was not me.He came up with a lot of excuses and apologies, but that was not my problem. All I needed was the clothes of my wicked boss.Immediately, he handed them over to me; I headed back to the office without saying goodbye to the vendor.I was just thinking of a b

Marcie's POV"As he brought the fashion designers to the house, he left the three of us in my room, and then he went to his own room, but they mentioned something to me. They were referring to him as my husband, and then I did not complain because I knew that there was something really important that they wanted to say to me. They said that while they were at the mall, he began to persuade them to do it really fast because he was not safe there," I said to her, waiting to see what she had in mind and what she was thinking about it."Oh my goodness, that is really deep. What exactly is the issue, or was he being stalked at the mall? Do you think it is something really important because some people do not like crowds, and they feel insecure whenever they are in a crowd? I do not think it is something you should overthink, because it is actually the way some people behave when they are in crowded places like that. But nevertheless, you have to ask him to know if he is actually okay, and

  • The Beta and I   Chapter 107

Marcie's POVAs they left the suite, I sat in my room thinking of what could have actually been the issue and what he was really hiding from me, because it should have been something really serious.I decided to confront him when he returned, hoping he would tell me exactly what the issue was, because I did not want to put myself into what I was not aware of. He was so secretive, and I knew that if he was going through certain types of stuff, he would not be able to share his anxiety with people. This time around, I was ready to know what exactly the issue was and what exactly he was hiding, because I knew that there was something more to everything that was happening besides I had been having a sort of weird feeling ever since we came to the hotel to lodge, and I thought it was normal, but from what happened and what the workers in the fashion house told me, I knew that there was actually an issue, and it needed to be solved as soon as possible. It felt really strange to me, and the

Carsen's POVAs I got back to the hotel, I saw Stephen outside, and I was really angry because I knew that he would definitely say something that would make me so angry with him.I had to act as though I was in a hurry so that I would not have to stop and start responding to him, as I knew that he had nothing good to tell me; rather, he just told me words that would annoy me, and he constantly asked me about Emily, knowing fully well that I get angry when anyone talks about her. I just had to act as though I did not see him, and then he began to call me.I knew I would surely fall into his trap because he was so manipulative, and he would always act as though I and him were in good times."Hello, Mr. Carsen, Hello, Mr. Carsen, please wait; I want to speak to you about something," he said as he walked up to me. I did not want to respond to him, but then I was stopped by a staff member who was working there."Excuse me, sir, please. That man over there wants to speak to you. I do not th

Treasure's POVI left him to do what he wanted to do so that we could move on to what we had to do next, and then he continued. Besides, we were there for him, and we would give him all the quality time even though we had our stuff to do."Just go ahead and do whatever you want to do, but I bet you that you are all going to pay for this. Each and every one of you is going to be tied to a chair, and will get tortured the way I am getting tortured right now," the wolf who was used for the experiment interrupted Mr. Vaughn as he was about to start what he wanted to do."This is just something simple, and you will get freed. The simple question is just to tell us where your leaders are and where you guys are based, and then everything will be sorted out, and you will go freely with your life, but since you are not ready to talk, get ready to get tortured and get ready to die when the time comes, because you all are going to pay for everything you have been doing, and I bet you that when I

  • The Beta and I   Chapter 104

Treasure's POVWe began to take things in for the experiment while Mr. Vaughn was not seen around. I knew that he would have probably gone to wait for us to conclude whatever we had to do so that he could come and witness the experiment, and thus I did not bother myself at all. This time around, I had to supervise what my team was doing because I did not want any issues at all, and I did not want any complaints from Mr. Vaughn. His workers directed us on how we should do and where we would do the experiment, and I was really pleased with what I saw. The lab was so big and had a lot of equipment. I did not expect to see that in a private laboratory because I have never seen such in a government sector.I had to acknowledge the fact that he was doing a good job, and I also had to compliment his work because no one could tell that such was in that building and it could have such massive equipment, which I did not expect it to have.I supervised everything very well, and I made sure that

  • The Beta and I   Chapter 103

Treasure's POVAfter I had ended the call with him, I decided to start going to the laboratory today so that we could begin the journey, which we had, and thought that we did not have to miss out or disappoint Mr. Vaughn this time, which I gave him a specific time.I was already prepared and already dressed, so all I had to do was grab my car keys and start going to the laboratory to see what exactly was happening there and to see if they were actually ready for the experiment, which we are going to show to Mr. Vaughn after a longer waited period of time.As I got there, I was really impressed because my boys were already prepared, and they had already started bringing out everything that was needed for it. I was so impressed, and I was so glad that I had such people around me who would definitely turn up for me whenever I needed their help and whenever I needed those things to be done.I stood by the corner of my car and watched them do everything because I was sure that they could h

  • The Beta and I   Chapter 102

Mr. Vaughn Alexander Sterling's POVI was so glad to see more of what he had in store for me, and I really appreciate the patience I had for them all this while, and I was so glad that I did not have to terminate the whole contract I had with them out of anger. All he was saying and a little I saw was so fascinating, and I really loved the whole experiment because it was legit, and there was nothing to hide at all. Everything was so clear and happened before my eyes. I even loved the fact that I was the one doing it by myself. It was really amazing to see that a knife could burn someone else but could not burn me. And I began to reason it and maybe thought it was from me, and then I decided to test it on the body of every other person in the room."Treasure, this is so fascinating, and I have not seen such a thing in my life before, but I think I need to do it one more time to be sure that my eyes are not deceiving me. But this time around, if you do not mind, I would love to test it

Marcie's POV As Carsen left alone, I knew that there was something which he had in mind to do, and then I did not want any issues at all, because I was the one who instigated everything by spilling the beans out of anger. "Oh my goodness, Ma, we should not have told you this at all because your husband is so angry right now, and I think he is just going to keep quiet till we go out there with him, then he can now do to us what he has in mind. Please beg him for us because we cannot go with him, or you can come along with us so that he does not hurt us at all," the male fashion designer accepted and pleaded with me to talk to Carsen."You are the one who caused everything that is happening to us right now. You could have remained quiet, but you decided to talk, and now you are pleading for help. Take a good look at yourself and see what you have brought to us, but one thing I want to tell you is that if I get hurt on this journey, you are going to pay so dearly for it," his colle

  • The Beta and I   Chapter 100

Carsen's POVI stood outside and waited for them to arrive so that I could take them back to where they came from and also question them about what they told Emily concerning me.I went outside the door and was still there waiting for them as I went through my emails to check if there was any important message that was given to me.Not long after, I went outside to wait to see how many came out with both of them, as they were looking scared. It was something very common because my looks usually intimidated people, even though it attracts them as well."I see that we are ready to go. I will meet you very soon," I said to Emily as I went down the stairs, and the both of them followed me downstairs."Sir, we are so sorry for letting her know anything that happened at the mall. We felt that it would be really helpful if we told her about it because we noticed that you were not comfortable, and you urged us to be quick so that we could leave because you were not safe there anymore.
