Chapter 54 Muddy shoes

Caiden still went toward her against her wishes. He said, "That is not true, Kamara. How could you believe that? This accusation was unknown to me."

"Can you not lie to me right now, Caiden?" Her sobbing became so intense that Kamara was left gasping for air.

Then he put both of his hands on her face, making Kamara meet his gaze. "Eyes on me Kamara? Do you think I'm the kind of leader who feels sorry for his people and does things for them because of that?" Caiden's eyes were gleaming brightly, pain evident in his eyes. "Do you truly believe that everything I ever said to you was a lie?

She was unable to reply anymore, though. Her voice trailed off into sobs. With his fingertips moving softly over her damp face, Caiden leaned in closer to her.

Feeling his heart thumping in his chest, he said, "I loved you, Kamara, like I will never love anyone else in my life, I will find out if your parents' deaths were caused by my father."
