Rex POV
“What is this I hear about you finding Elena?” My mum asked as she barged into my office. “Mum, you know that you could have at least knocked?” I asked by way of response. “Don't play with me, boy? Where is she?” Boy. Like, what the hell! As if I am still some eight year old kid that broke his vase, oh well. “New Kingston”. I answered as I signed a document, handed it to my Secretary, and then looked up at her. At her fifty five years old, my mother is still a beauty. There were no gray strands of her in her mane of full Auburn hair, beautifully styled and cuffed by the nape of her neck, she had the same color as my eyes but with a tanner skin and no signs of aging. I suppose that was thanks to our wolf genes. “If she is all the way over there, why are you still here and not on a plane?” “Because.” “Because what?” “Because… there are some… things to be cleared on my desk before I go see her”. I answered. “Some… some things to take care of? Rex! Are you listening to yourself? There are some things to take care of?! You have been searching for her for years! And now that you have found her, you are telling me that you have things to take care of?! When did you become such a coward?!” “I am not a coward!” I snarled at her as I rose to my feet. “Then stop behaving like one!” She roared back at me. “Why? What are you hesitating now?” “Because…” “Boy! Don't think just give unlikely excuses because you are taller than me. I can't still whoop your butt. I will do it and it will hurt.” Well, that is an unpleasant image. An image I shook out of my head before taking an envelope to hand over to her and then I started walking towards the window. “Those were delivered to me this morning”. I told her as I stared absentmindedly out of the fifty foot story building, with my eyes vague and seeing nothing. I heard as she flipped it open and pulled out its contents. In the envelope there was a series of pictures showing Elena in different places with two kids by her side. Both of them look like her. No man by her side. “Oh my goddess”. She whispered. “She has children. Who is the father?” “As far as the information received as of recently, there is no man in her life. I am still waiting for the report on these past few years.” “What about the kids? How old are they?” “Unknown for now.” “Is it… is it possible that they… are yours?” “If that is true, why wouldn't she tell me?” “Oh, would that be before or after you so callously instructed her to leave your home?” My mother reminded in a questionable manner. And the sarcasm is back. “Either way, I am still waiting for more feedback”. I told her, igniting her sarcastic comment. “I have to ask though”. She said as she walked up to me, the pictures still in her hand. “If they turned out to be someone else’s children, what would you do?” “I… I don't know”. I answered at a loss for once. That is the question that has been playing ping pong in my head since I learned about the kids. Can I do it? Can I raise another man’s children as my own? Would she even let me? “I suggest you think it through, very well”. My mother said to me as she walked away. “If you can't, then you should forget what you saw, forget that you found her and then go find another woman to marry. With how much I know of Elena, she is not going to abandon her kids for a man who abandoned her first.” No. She would not. Oh, this is a mess. Turning around, I headed back to my seat, finally alone, and noticed the pictures placed on the desk, the top one depicting Elena, smiling with her whole face - eyes sparkling with mirth, teeth showing wide, skin glowing - as she laughed at something one of the children said. Oh, I really messed up. If I had been more diligent, more aware, and more… careful, I would have discovered the poison Maya had been using on Elena. The same poison stopping her from conceiving. That is why I am not sure the children are mine. According to Maya, she had used one of my own wolves, - one who had been sympathetic to her right and still wanted her as Luna - to poison Elena, as a way to prevent her from getting pregnant. So, it is highly unlikely that the children are mine. Right? “Alpha?” I heard a voice from the door and I looked up to see Clark, my Beta walking in. “Clark, any update?” “On the Luna? No. But we found the witch Maya was working with. We have her in custody in the pack prison.” “Good,” I said as I got up to my feet and walked to the door. There are things that need to be clarified. I watched as the woman, the witch is brought to me, scratched and had dried blood all over her. At my raised eyebrow, Clark supplied the answer to my silent question. “She struggled”. He said. “Apparently, she believed we were going to kill her for her part in helping Maya.” “I had no choice!” The woman screamed. “She had my daughter in her hands. She and her stupid Alpha!” “Alpha? Who?” I demand. “I don't know him. All I know is that he hates you as much as she did and was willing - is willing to do anything to ruin you.” “You were the one that helped Maya with the illusion of her being pregnant, right?” “Yes.” “And the poison she used on Elena?” “I supplied it too. You have to understand, I had no choice! I-” She stopped at my raised hands. Turning to the rest of the wolves in the room, I said. “You all should leave? I want to question her privately. You too, Clark”. I finished at his hesitation. Soon, the only occupants in the room were just me and her. “Tell me how the poison worked.” “What?” She asked in confusion. “The poison. Was it proof-proof?” “I don't understand your question. I… wait… I…” She stuttered as I rose up to my feet, with boiling rage filling my eyes. “She wanted a poison to stop Elena from getting pregnant. But Elena-” “Luna! She is Luna to you!” I growled at her. “Right! Luna is a strong wolf so I gave her the instruction that the potion must be taken after… intercourse. Immediately after. Not a day after, not a few hours after. I suppose that is where the spy she used came in.” The spy that Maya instructed to put it, was no other than Elena’s assistant, a daughter of my mother’s friend. We thought that since she was closer to the family she would be more loyal to us. We were wrong. “So, let us assume that we had sex and she conceived, what would happen if, after another time, she took the potion?” “Nothing. Nothing would happen. The potion wouldn't work that way. The baby will remain.” “I see thank you for your time,” I said as I walked away. “What about me? What is going to happen to me?!” She screamed but I just ignored her. I have more important things on my mind. “Alpha?” Clark called as I walked out of the cell. “Have the plane ready”. I said to him. “I am going to New Kingston.” I am going to get my family.Elena POV“I am imagining this”. I muttered to myself. “I have to be imagining this.”I stood with my mouth wide opened in shock as a pair of wolf cubs had made a mess of my living room.Suffice it to say, this was not normal.I mean, for a while now, a lot of things have not been normal in my life, not since the twins were born but this takes the cake.Wolves, werewolves are only able to transform on their sixteenth birthday. This is to allow them to bear the pain of transformation while also having the ability to control their urges. So, why, pray tell, are my four - nearly five - years old children in wolf form? There was no warning, no inkling that they were going into transformation.I had left them asleep on the waterproof mattress and came back only to see the room flooded, glass broken, and two cubs having a tug of war with one of my silk pillows.I got down to my knees slowly, hands outstretched as I called out to them.“Kanu, Kiana, come to mummy now. Come now.”At my voice,
Elena's POV.I couldn't bring myself to believe how Rex had tracked me down. I felt my world pause for a while as all I could recall at that very point was how he had ordered me to leave his pack for good. I felt this hurting pain in my chest as I looked at how he crouched to their level. "Does he know those are his children?" I mumbled within as his gaze was still locked to mine. It was obvious. They had this striking resemblance with him. I groaned even more as I looked at him. All the screams, the laughter of children and the conversations of adults all turned to some low pitched, unclear sound. All my ears could process were the voices in my head. And I could still hear his voice so clear in my head when he had asked me to leave his pack for good. I could still hear the voice of Maya as well. And now, seeing him reopened the old wound I struggled to move over from. "Elena?" Marie called out to me again as she shook me lightly, bringing me back to reality. "Are you alright?"
Rex's POV.I couldn't let go of her beautiful grey eyes. It was impossible falling asleep when finally, my search for her was over. How could I easily forget how beautiful she has gotten within the five years of being away? Her black, wavy hair was now more appealing to me and her scent, still seductive to me. Her slender body mesmerized me further, making me want to have her all to myself again. And I felt more happy playing with her kids as I saw the striking resemblance. They both looked just like me but then, I felt these sharp pains as I was stupid enough to chase her away. If only I was patient enough, I would have spent time with my kids while they were babies.I couldn't help but think about what exactly she must have told them about me. They were smart kids. "Why wouldn't they be?" I shrugged proudly as I complimented their smartness as a quality they had taken from Elena and I."How did you know our mummy?" I could still hear Kanu's voice in my head and the answer I gave
Elena’s POV.I still couldn't stop thinking about yesterday. He was the last person I ever thought of seeing and most especially, I couldn't help but worry how long they have been watching me. “How did he know of my two adorable twin angels?” I scowled agonizingly as I did the dishes. It was completely impossible to think straight right now. I had dropped them off at school an hour ago now, the only thing I could think of was running away secretly again. I wasn't ready to face him yet. “What about Maya?” “Did they break up?” I felt this joy linger within me as I shook it off. “Why was it a thing to be happy about?” I cursed within as I rinsed the plates.“Elena?” Marie's voice pulled me back to reality as I cleaned my hands. “Oh! Marie.” I mumbled as I feigned a smile. “You didn't go to work today?” I questioned as I looked at her. “Work?” She said disappointedly, shaking her head as she rubbed her forehead with her right hand. “What exactly is wrong with you, Elena? How do you e
Rex's POV."Good morning, Rex. Is there any good news?" Alice asked the moment she picked the call."Good news?" I chuckled softly. "Do you think Elena would easily let me back into her life?" I scowled. "I saw her yesterday but then, I could tell she wasn't happy seeing me and she took the kids away from me." I responded as I arranged my hair. "What else do you expect? You caused this. I warned you from the beginning. Better don't get back here without my beautiful daughter in-law and her two little, adorable kids." She said in a threatening tone. "Kanu and Kiana." I muttered with a smile as I had flashbacks of them. "What!?" She asked in a confused tone. "Oh! She named them Kanu and Kiana." I answered with a smile on my face. "They are just 4 years old, and they look too big and healthy." I muttered. It was something beautiful and I wished I had watched them grow this big and smart. It was obvious that she was perfectly fine without me. "And how do you intend to get her back?"
I arrived a few minutes before the school closure for the day as I remained inside the car, scanning the environment with my eyes like I was expecting something to go wrong. And the few minutes felt like hours already as I was growing impatient already. I just couldn't wait to set my eyes on my two little adorable pups. "Hello, little angels." "No, hell no!" I shrugged as I marched the car brake aggressively. "That's boring." I said to myself as I started all over again."Hey, Kanu and Kiana, you both look magnificent in your uniforms. How was school today?" I rehearsed again as I smiled.I repeated different lines as I looked at the mirror at the top of the car."So, your mummy said I can drive you both home and from today, I will be your new driver." I went further."Okay, this is weird now!" I cursed as I slapped my cheeks lightly and shook my head. "Is that how bad of a father you will be?" I shrugged disappointedly as I dragged my cheeks apart in frustration. "Okay, take a d
Elena's POV."What do you mean by you “calling in and saying they are not in school?" Marie screamed at the top of her voice as she looked at me."I just spoke with Mr. Heather and he said a man introduced himself as my brother, and he said he was going to drive them home." I responded as my heart raced fast.I just couldn't find a better positive explanation for this. I couldn't let any harm come to my little angels. "How could Mr. Heather be that careless? Why didn't he call in to confirm if the man's story was actually true? How could he just give out your kids to a complete stranger?" Marie growled angrily. Her heart also raced fast and wild as she paced about in the room. "I don't want any harm to come near my godchildren else, I will break hell loose." She panicked even more."They are an hour late." I whimpered as I stood upright, my eyes fixed on the wall clock and I knew absolutely nothing to do. "What proof did the stranger even show Mr. Heather to make him give my little
Rex's POV."What do you want from us, Rex? Leave me and my kids alone, please!!" I could still hear her voice in my head as I drove down to the park where I first saw her and my kids when I arrived in New Kingston.I could feel the hatred she had towards me and right now, if there was anything that ran through my head was leaving New Kingston for good and never bothering her anymore."She was probably good without me." I muttered as I punched my steering wheel so hard. "Darn it!! Darn it!!" I cursed as tears blurred my vision. I just couldn't believe that she could ever raise her hand on me. She was never this way. This isn't the Elena I knew five years back. My heart ached badly as it felt like I should just end whatever pain I was feeling right now by pushing my hand inside my chest and pulling out my heart. I came to New Kingston with high hopes of getting back my fated mate, my wife and Luna, who I had stupidly sent out for my treacherous ex who never loved me but was only th
Elena's POV The early morning light filtered through the pack house windows and casted a golden glow over the kitchen, while I busied myself with preparing breakfast. It was a calm morning, but I could feel tension in the air. While the battle went on yesterday, Alphonso got captured and what was going to be done with him hadn't been decided yet, but whatever decision was going to be taken will define the pack's future.I stood by the counter, stirring a pot of oatmeal while Kanu and Kiana bickered playfully over the cereal I had given them earlier. Something about their laughter and noise felt comforting and reminded me of the simple life that we almost lost. It was hard to imagine that we managed to pull through, but as I glanced at the family photo, the realisation that we had survived set in.Then, Rex walked in, looking as if he had just woken up, his dark hair a bit ruffled. "It sure smells good in here," he said groggily.I smiled at him. "I'm preparing breakfast obviously, bu
Elena's POV The energy was electric in the pack house. Wolves in human and shifted forms moved around the courtyard with their voices conveying relief and celebration. Despite the tension everyone felt from the battle we endured, everyone felt hopeful and personally, I can't remember the last time I felt that way.Standing near the edge of the crowd while watching as pack members approached Rex to congratulate him, I noticed that he moved slowly as a result of his injuries but his presence was still as commanding as ever. He cemented his role as a leader with each nod of his head and each word he exchanged with them. "Are you okay?" A voice said from my side, breaking me out of my thoughts. Turning sideways, I see that it's Logan."I think so," I replied, my gaze shifting back to Rex."You give off this feeling of someone that's getting ready to run." Logan said with a mischievous smile, though his tone was gentle. That caused a short laugh to escape my lips, "it's just a lot. All o
Elena's POVI woke up to the morning light filtering through the blinds of the hospital room with its soft rays washing over Rex's face. He was still asleep with his chest rising and falling in a steady rhythm. Despite how pale he looked with the bandages wrapped around his chest, he looked like a warrior at rest after fighting a long battle.Leaning back against the chair by his bed with my body still aching from dozing off in an uncomfortable position with my hands still resting on his, unwilling to let go I closed my eyes slightly but the image of Logan walking towards me with some of Rex's blood on his body replayed in my head. The door opened behind me and I turned to see Logan walk in with clean clothes and a smile on his face while carrying two cups of coffee. He smiled at me softly as he approached before placing one of the cups on the small table beside me. "I thought you would need this," he said as he sat down on the other side of Rex's bed."Thanks," I replied gratefully
Elena's POV I was in a room, praying that the battle goes in like favour when a wolf rushed in agitation."What's going on in the battlefield?" I asked hurriedly."We were able to defeat Kingsley but..". "But what?!" I asked impatiently."The Alpha was wounded in battle and is being rushed to the hospital right now." As I heard that, I felt dread overcome me and without a second thought, I grabbed my keys."Marie!" I called out, my voice shaking. "Watch the kids for me. I have to go."Maria frowned in concern, "Elena, hold on!"But I was already out the door, my heart pounding as I drove towards the hospital. The drive to the hospital was a blur with my mind focused on getting to the hospital as fast as I could. The sounds of the radio faded into the background as my thoughts consumed me with the words of the wolf being played over and over again in my mind."What if he doesn't make it?"The very thought of that happening struck me hard at my chest like a punch. I had spent so much
Elena's pov"What if you don't have to?" Alicia asked, "you don't really have to go back to how things were between you two and honestly, I don't think it's a good idea since things were pretty toxic between you two.""That is true." I said with a gentle nod of my head. "So I suggest that you both build something new." She replied.Hearing that, it was as if a door opened up in my mind as I began to seriously consider her opinion. The following morning, the Pack gathered at an open field which was the site of the meeting with every wolf on high alert.Standing before us was Rex with his commanding presence as he addressed the crowd. "Today we are here to fight for the future of our packs. Kingsley and Alphonso have both been controlling us for so long using just fear and manipulation and it's time to put an end to it."In response, everyone cheered in approval with some of them howling. I stood at the edge of the gathering with the women and children while looking for signs of troubl
Elena's POV I, my twins, Marie and Alicia had moved to Rex's pack away from New Kingston. He had figured out that if we remained in New Kingston we'd be easily attacked by Kingsley and his cohorts. His mother was so filled with joy to see us finally return to the pack.Standing at the edge of Rex's pack grounds, I felt the cool air against my skin. All around me were werewolves shifting into their forms and patrolling the perimeter with their scouts running back and forth with one update after the other. Turning sideways, my eyes rested on Rex who was barking orders with authority which was expected since he was an Alpha and knew the weight of his responsibilities.Anyone else standing on the spot I stood would have felt nervous or utterly terrified but I felt oddly calm. I knew what was happening right now wasn't just about survival anymore but about standing for something and protecting the people that matter the most.As I busied myself with my thoughts, a voice broke me out of it
Logan's POVThe air in the safe house was heavy with tension with Zachary pacing the small room with his footsteps creaking rhythmically on the wooden floor. On a table situated by the side, I sat with a map spread out before me as I observed the marked locations which represented Kingsley's growing influence across the packs.Suddenly, the footsteps stopped in front of me which prompted me to raise my head only to see Zachary staring at me. "We don't have much time." He said silently. "Kingsley's plan is already in motion and Alphonso's political might will protect him if we don't act now."Do you think I do not know that?" I asked with a quirked eyebrow. "Of course I do but if we move too soon, we risk exposing our hands too early. We need to hit them where it'll hurt the most-where they least expect us to hit."Zachary folded his arms in response, he didn't look too convinced by my reasoning. "And how do you think we should do that? Kingsley has access to Alphonso's resources, the
Elena's POV Sitting down by the kitchen table, my hands trembled slightly as I stirred my cup of tea with the clanking generated from my spoon hitting the sides of the cup grounding me. It was late in the afternoon and the sun had cast long shadows with golden patterns around the kitchen. As I did that, my mind went to the words Collins uttered the previous night with each word echoing in my head. "Rex won't see it coming. Once he's out of the way, we'll have complete control. Are you worried about Elena? You shouldn't be, She's loyal for now."I couldn't believe what I had just heard. The man I had trusted my life and the life of my kids with, the same man I let into my life had been scheming all along? I could not believe it but the weight of his betrayal pressed heavily against my chest. How could I be so blind"? Gripping the edge of my table to steady myself, I took in deep breaths and I didn't notice one of my kids come close to me. "Mom!"Kanu called, startling me, which ca
Elena's POV.Hearing the faint hum of the coffee machine in the background alongside the sound of the TV and the sound of laughter from Kiana and Kanu should have brought me a sense of peace and comfort but in the particular situation I'm in, it only brought me unease with my hand tightening around my cellphone while I stared at it.I had sent Collins a text a while ago which he had left unanswered and that made me extremely anxious. "Mom!" Kiana shouted, his voice interrupting my thoughts. "Kanu is cheating again and I do not like it!"With a sigh of exhaustion, I dropped the phone into my pocket before turning around and walking into the living room and there stood Kanu on the sofa, triumphantly holding the game controller in his hand and high over his head with Kiana by the side glaring at him with her little hands balled into fists."I am not cheating!" Kanu yelled back, while jumping away as Kiana tried to snatch the controller from him."Okay, that's enough." I said, stepping b
