Elena’s POV.
I still couldn't stop thinking about yesterday. He was the last person I ever thought of seeing and most especially, I couldn't help but worry how long they have been watching me. “How did he know of my two adorable twin angels?” I scowled agonizingly as I did the dishes. It was completely impossible to think straight right now. I had dropped them off at school an hour ago now, the only thing I could think of was running away secretly again. I wasn't ready to face him yet. “What about Maya?” “Did they break up?” I felt this joy linger within me as I shook it off. “Why was it a thing to be happy about?” I cursed within as I rinsed the plates. “Elena?” Marie's voice pulled me back to reality as I cleaned my hands. “Oh! Marie.” I mumbled as I feigned a smile. “You didn't go to work today?” I questioned as I looked at her. “Work?” She said disappointedly, shaking her head as she rubbed her forehead with her right hand. “What exactly is wrong with you, Elena? How do you expect me to go to work after I punched a customer who was deliberately mean towards one of our teen customers?” She snapped at me. “Oh, yeah, yeah! I remember now.” I rolled my eyes. It was impossible for me to think straight now. All I could think about was why Rex was here in New Kingston and what he wants from me. “Since you met that stranger yesterday, you have been acting differently. What are you hiding?” She scowled as she dropped the beverages she came in with on the table. “It's nothing, trust me.” I responded quickly. “No! I know you Elena. And when you use that “trust me” word, there's absolutely a whole lot of things you are trying to hide.” Marie sneered as she held my shoulders. “Look at me, Elena. You know you can tell me anything?” She said calmly which did nothing but break through my defense. “Who… is the… stranger?” She asked again as she had me sit down on the couch. “He is just someone from my past. It's absolutely nothing to worry about, Marie.” I shuddered, feeling cold and this sharp pain that came with it. “You know, for a second, I saw this striking resemblance between them. But then, he looks wealthy and I had to brush it off.” Marie muttered as she looked at me. I rolled my eyes this time around as tears swelled up, blurring my vision for a while. “Yes, he's their father!” I broke down as I got up from the couch. “He is their father and there's absolutely no way I would let him right back into my life.” I cursed. I couldn't continue with the lie of him running away after I told him I was carrying his children. Marie sat down, still in shock as she couldn't believe what I just said to her. “And what do you plan doing now?” She asked as she looked at me. “Run! I will leave New Kingston!!” I responded as I wiped off my tears. “Run? Are you insane? How long do you intend running?” She snapped in refusal. “There is no way I am letting you run away.” She sneered as she got up. “He can't just show up in my life and expect me to be happy about that. I know why he is here. He is only here because of the kids, not me!!” I cursed as I looked at Marie. “Think about them? How do you think they will feel when they finally get to know that he is their biological father? Do you think they will still love you? Do you think they will love you from robbing them of their father's love and presence in their life? Huh!? Tell me Elena!!” She scowled, screaming at the top of her voice. “He doesn't deserve to be their father! I am only concerned about their happiness. And I have stayed for five years, making sure that I provide every single thing they want. I am fine without him and so are they too.” I snapped as tears gathered in my eyes. “Just look how cute they are. What if he isn't just here because of the kids? What if he is here because of you?” She probed as she picked up the picture frame that rested on the TV stand as tears gathered up in her eyes. “Can we not do this now?” I turned my back against her as I felt sharp pains in my heart. “Do you know how exactly it feels when the one man you came to love from a very young age abandons you for his ex? Same ex he vouched he would never return to? He broke me, Marie!” I whimpered, cursing bitterly as I couldn't hold the tears anymore. For five years, I have avoided remembering why I came to New Kingston. For five years, I never for once thought about Rex's betrayal of the love he professed but right now, I just couldn't help but think about how he had chased me away from his pack too. “Running away isn't the best choice, Elena. I know you don't want to have anything to do with him but you have stayed here for five good years. You could reject whatever proposal he makes. You can't keep running because of one man. And there's absolutely no way I'm letting you take my godson and goddaughter away from me. No way!” She snapped as she turned me round as she locked her eyes with mine. “I understand how you feel, I really do. But you are already building a life here. I want you to cheer up. There's a job opening, there's a beautiful life out here in Kingston and you don't just expect me to say goodbye because your husband shows up all of a sudden.” She scowled, forcing a smile as she looked at me. “Ex-husband.” I snapped immediately. But was I over him yet?Rex's POV."Good morning, Rex. Is there any good news?" Alice asked the moment she picked the call."Good news?" I chuckled softly. "Do you think Elena would easily let me back into her life?" I scowled. "I saw her yesterday but then, I could tell she wasn't happy seeing me and she took the kids away from me." I responded as I arranged my hair. "What else do you expect? You caused this. I warned you from the beginning. Better don't get back here without my beautiful daughter in-law and her two little, adorable kids." She said in a threatening tone. "Kanu and Kiana." I muttered with a smile as I had flashbacks of them. "What!?" She asked in a confused tone. "Oh! She named them Kanu and Kiana." I answered with a smile on my face. "They are just 4 years old, and they look too big and healthy." I muttered. It was something beautiful and I wished I had watched them grow this big and smart. It was obvious that she was perfectly fine without me. "And how do you intend to get her back?"
I arrived a few minutes before the school closure for the day as I remained inside the car, scanning the environment with my eyes like I was expecting something to go wrong. And the few minutes felt like hours already as I was growing impatient already. I just couldn't wait to set my eyes on my two little adorable pups. "Hello, little angels." "No, hell no!" I shrugged as I marched the car brake aggressively. "That's boring." I said to myself as I started all over again."Hey, Kanu and Kiana, you both look magnificent in your uniforms. How was school today?" I rehearsed again as I smiled.I repeated different lines as I looked at the mirror at the top of the car."So, your mummy said I can drive you both home and from today, I will be your new driver." I went further."Okay, this is weird now!" I cursed as I slapped my cheeks lightly and shook my head. "Is that how bad of a father you will be?" I shrugged disappointedly as I dragged my cheeks apart in frustration. "Okay, take a d
Elena's POV."What do you mean by you “calling in and saying they are not in school?" Marie screamed at the top of her voice as she looked at me."I just spoke with Mr. Heather and he said a man introduced himself as my brother, and he said he was going to drive them home." I responded as my heart raced fast.I just couldn't find a better positive explanation for this. I couldn't let any harm come to my little angels. "How could Mr. Heather be that careless? Why didn't he call in to confirm if the man's story was actually true? How could he just give out your kids to a complete stranger?" Marie growled angrily. Her heart also raced fast and wild as she paced about in the room. "I don't want any harm to come near my godchildren else, I will break hell loose." She panicked even more."They are an hour late." I whimpered as I stood upright, my eyes fixed on the wall clock and I knew absolutely nothing to do. "What proof did the stranger even show Mr. Heather to make him give my little
Rex's POV."What do you want from us, Rex? Leave me and my kids alone, please!!" I could still hear her voice in my head as I drove down to the park where I first saw her and my kids when I arrived in New Kingston.I could feel the hatred she had towards me and right now, if there was anything that ran through my head was leaving New Kingston for good and never bothering her anymore."She was probably good without me." I muttered as I punched my steering wheel so hard. "Darn it!! Darn it!!" I cursed as tears blurred my vision. I just couldn't believe that she could ever raise her hand on me. She was never this way. This isn't the Elena I knew five years back. My heart ached badly as it felt like I should just end whatever pain I was feeling right now by pushing my hand inside my chest and pulling out my heart. I came to New Kingston with high hopes of getting back my fated mate, my wife and Luna, who I had stupidly sent out for my treacherous ex who never loved me but was only th
Clark's POV. "You don't expect me to easily believe you when you say you are fine, Rex." I snapped as I looked at him. "How do you expect me to explain that you left yesterday around 2p.m to go pick up your kids and throughout yesterday, no calls and not even a single text from you. And you expect me to buy your "I'm fine?" I scoffed as I tilted my lips.He furrowed his eyebrows as he looked at me for a while, like he was contemplating something. But then, being a werewolf was also limited. Without him letting me read his mind, I just couldn't sit across the table and hear his thoughts aloud and, right now, I wished that was possible. I frowned as he ignored me, lowering his head again as he continued with his breakfast. I screamed frustratingly as I got up. I hate being left out. "I am your beta, Rex and I deserve to know everything that goes on in your life." I snapped, trying to get him to talk to me."Hmm." He growled lightly as he raised his head again. And just as before,
Elena's POV.I had gotten a new job in one of the biggest hotels in New Kingston. It was owned and controlled by a powerful werewolf family here in Kingston and, after the CEO died, his two sons took over the family business. His daughter recently got wedded into a different pack, a powerful pack as well. And I worked in the resort section. In the beach area. New Kingston was a place that welcomed a large number of tourists every month, which meant that it was definitely a great business and also, my salary for two months could help me pay up my house rent, which was already two months due. Marie also worked in the resort section. To be more precise, we were among the bartenders. "Wow, there is definitely no way I'm getting into a fight here!" Marie chuckled softly as she pinched my arm, making me yelp."I know you, Marie." I scoffed, rolling my eyes as I continued arranging my next order. Marie and I worked closely together. That way, we could avoid getting into any sort of troub
Rex's POV.I remained indoors for a week against my wolf's wish. All I did was pay absolutely no attention to how she was coping or even making an attempt to go find out where she was now working and where exactly it was located.Clark had informed me about her new role in one of the biggest hotels in New Kingston and I remember lodging there years back before we separated.I yearned to see my two little adorable pups but then, she made it clear to me, she wanted me away from her and her children and there was absolutely no way I was going back again.I groaned as I laid on my bed. For a complete week now, I remained indoors and all I did was eat, sleep, shower, do an hour of exercise in my room and play Rubik's cube. That was more comforting as I had lost interest in watching any movie or even browsing the web. It was hard staying away but then, I was still trying to heal from the last day we saw. My head kept replaying the slap and how she pointed at me, strictly warning me to lea
Elena's POV. It was a week and a day now, making it eight days without setting my eyes on Rex. It was the weekend as well, and I was going to be having the night shift.Kanu and Kiana wouldn't stop asking about Rex. And it was such an adorable name to give the man who they least expected to be their biological father. Kiana preferred calling him "Chocolate friend" because he had bought them chocolates for them the different times he had met them. Maybe if they could stop talking about him and asking about him, it would have been easier for me to forget about him again, but no, they kept on talking about him."What was so special about him? Was it just the natural bond that couldn't be destroyed no matter the years of being apart? I scowled as I scrunched down to their height."Mummy will be going to work tonight, so I will be dropping you both at her house, okay?" I said with a smile on my face as they both smiled back at me. I loved how jovial they were always. Without them in my
Rex's POV"I think I should see my grandchildren one more time before going to Cleveland. What do you think, Rex? They deserve to know that their grandma is leaving. And Elena too, bless her poor soul."It was my mother's voice, and I tried to ignore the fact that I wanted her gone already. Her being around only complicated things. With the death threats I was receiving, the insecurity of the state and the upcoming elections, things were surely going to get messy. "These eggs are so good. Everything in general, you know. With Clark here, you don't need a chef around. You don't need these helpers, you know." She said again, dumping the eggs into her mouth. We were in the dining room, I sat at the head, Clark beside me, and my mother directly opposite me. A few years ago, the dining room would've been filled with my wife and two children. But at the moment, I didn't even know if they belonged to me. "Thank you, Mrs King." Was Clark's curt reply. "You know, mum, you've been talking
Rex's POV The line went dead, and I stared at the phone in my hand. No matter how hard I tried, I could see that she was hell bent on making sure that those boundaries were felt and were put in place. Was there still hope when it came to her? Clark and my mother seemed to still believe, but I knew I had stopped believing a long time ago. Just then, the door opened, revealing Clark. He was dressed in a flannel shirt and jeans, two brown paper bags in his hands. He was supposed to get us specially prepared Chinese food from a Chinese restaurant, and I wondered why he had taken so long. "Come on, man. What has taken you so long? How's the food? I hope it's scorching hot, I need it that way."He nodded, then handed a pack to me which I accepted willingly. "I went to see Marie along the road. Decided to tell her the dangers lurking. She deserves to know. At least, one of them has to. And we can trust her not to tell Elena, but keep an eye on the kids as well. Which to me, is satisfac
MARIE'S POV "Death threats?" I managed to voice out, my words coming out in the form of a croak. It was tiring. I could only imagine the reaction of Elena if she heard such news. She was going to go hysterical with worry. "It's actually connected to Rex, but they want to harm the twins. Not on my watch, Marie. I would rather die than see anything happen to those children, Marie. And I won't take it lightly on anybody I catch around them." He paused when the waiter arrived with the iced tea. I accepted it with a smile, sipping instantly. The chilliness and the flavor hit me, and I recognized that the news I had just received had made me slightly dehydrated."However, we're making plans. Serious plans. At the moment, we've decided to take the bakery just opposite the house. From there, I believe that we can strictly monitor the house and pounce on anybody around it."It sounded like a good plan. I was scared. Not even for my life, but the life of the little kids and the life of Elen
Elena's POV"Well, that simply means you're the mother of special children, Elena." Marie began, looking at me as I tried in vain to reshape the biscuits that had seemed to go badly because the dough hadn't been well prepared. "Yes, I know that. They've always been special children from the start, Marie. I know you remember that. The problem now is their father. Is he a special man? I doubt it. He didn't believe me even though he knew the love we shared was extremely genuine. Forgiveness is hard, Marie."I managed to complete, staring at the biscuits before I put them into the oven. Marie was beside me in an instant, tickling me. "I know that forgiveness is hard, but he's the mother of your kids, Elena. You have to consider that. Since he saw you, he's done nothing but try to be a good father, and also have you on his side in support as well. But I can't tell if you're going to support him..."Something inside of me snapped. Why did everybody derive joy in telling me what to do all
LOGAN'S POVThe entire lab was a room filled with unease and tension. For the umpteenth time, I knew that they all had multiple places to be, but were in the room because of a man. A man that we all hated, that we shared the mutual dislike for. Collins Morgan had brought us together once again, and I was certain that they all shared my hatred, that they probably weren't going to rest until he was gotten rid of. "Some days, I wonder why we do what we're doing, Logan. How are we sure he still has these pictures? How do we know he can still possibly implicate us?" It was the voice of a tired Helen, her face pale. "You saw those pictures very well, Helen. That thing gets out, and it ruins not only this company, but all of us as well. We're well known in the city, Helen. We're the children of the founding fathers, the kids that will probably take their place after their deaths. If those pictures get into the hands of the FBI, we're ruined for life. Each and every one of us." I paused to
Rex's POV"Son, your friend at the door, your guest. Isn't he coming in?" My mother asked, looking at me with a smile as she tried in vain to keep an eye at the television. I swallowed hard. How could I tell her that the friend had never made it? That his head had been cut off and was in a special box I had hidden in order not to scare her. "No mum. He actually said he'll be dropping by tomorrow. He just came to give me some information, and by tomorrow, we'll meet properly." My mother smiled at me instead, then glanced at Clark before speaking. "You should talk to your Alpha. If he's not the kind of man that wants his mother to meet his choice of friends, then he should just say so, instead of lying about it. I hope it isn't a woman though, because as far as I'm concerned, you have a wife and two children..."I interrupted, my mind on the fact that Elena and my kids weren't even safe at the moment, haunting me. "Technically, she isn't my wife anymore, mum. Who knows if she'll fi
Rex's POV That was his way of saying it was supposed to be a private discussion. Shrugging, he went on to say it, even though my mother was in the sitting room. "Jonathan says he's on his way, Rex. He's almost a few blocks from our house. He has the results of the sender."I almost smiled in happiness, but decided to swallow it because I was certain that my mother was going to notice. "Who is Jonathan?" She asked, her hand rubbing the back of her neck. "Just a friend, mum." I replied, knowing that involving her into the mess that was my life was the last thing I wanted to do at the moment. How was she going to react when she heard that threatening messages were being sent to me, including my children? I was still staring at the television when the doorbell rang. The best part of living with Clark was that he was ready to work alongside me. That was why when I stood up, he stood up with me. We were going to see Jonathan together, and my mother could continue watching the news.
LOGAN'S POVThe newscaster continued speaking."Currently, the private jet is not in the sky, but in the depths of the Tanaka river, where the entire air force and the naval officers are struggling to get a glimpse of the jet. Coming to you live, from KCN news, my name is Stephanie Lawson."My hands trembling, I grabbed the remote, then switched the channel to the main Kingston central news. It was everywhere. Governor Nathan Feller and his entourage were supposedly dead, as their private jet had crashed into the Tanaka river. But I knew better. My mind was working like a clock. The Governor was dead? Just in time for my father to seize the mandate of his party and start making the move for Governor? What a coincidence!"Logan, where are you going?" my mother asked, looking up to me as I angrily made my way out of the room. I didn't reply. I angrily made my way to the other house where he lived, ignoring my mother. There, I made my way into the house and his study, and the guards k
Kingsley's POVIn the boat, I shook the hands of the members of the six for a job well done. I grinned at the boat crew as well, shaking Roland Chapo, the man in charge of it. "Everyone, good job. Now, we're going to watch as the private jet sinks into the river." I muttered, slapping the arm of Governor Nathan who squirmed uncomfortably. Cans of ice cold beers were being brought forth by the boat crew and we all stood, watching the private jet struggle to stay afloat. By the time it began its descent into the river, the engines caught fire midair, and it crashed into the river, then exploded into bits. "Yes!""To the hijack of Goodish airways!" I screamed, raising my can of beer. We slammed our beers, one against each other, and I didn't mind the beer pouring on me. It was good to feel it. Governor Nathan sat in a corner, struggling with the tests that were about to cascade down his cheeks. I smiled at him, then slapped his shoulder again. "Your job is incomplete, Governor! Now
