CHAPTER 82

Claire’s POV

I dragged myself, like a rag doll, out of the bus. This night shift has been the worst. “Claire!” I turned to find Miss Nancy, my neighbor. This old lady was what I would like to call a physical CCTV.

"Hi, Miss Nancy,” I said, plastering a smile on my face. Maybe if I am nice, she will let me go quickly.

“Where have you been?” Her eyes roamed my body and lingered on my bag.

“Miss Nancy, I am coming back from the high school,” I smiled. I remembered that no one was around; I knew I worked with Jake’s pack. Since I was almost caught that last time, I begged Jake to find me security. He got me a guard from Michael’s entourage. This time, it was easy to leave and go out.

Miss Nancy stared at me longer. I knew she didn’t believe me. I didn’t care. “You look bad,” she said. That was her plan to get me to talk.

“The children... you know children can be tiring,” I laughed, looking away. “I guess I have to—“ Miss Nancy interrupted me.
