Ch. 81 NOT HIS CHILD

Alpha James's POV

I burst through the hospital room door, Davin's roars urging me forward. But as my gaze fell upon the people inside, I found myself frozen, my rage temporarily tempered.

There, perched at the edge of Carol's bed, was my mother—healthy, vibrant, and empty of the haggard, drunken appearance Michael had described. She beamed up at me, her face freshly made up with light makeup that made her look beautiful.

"Congratulations, son!" she exclaimed, rising to her feet. "On your first child, the future heir of the Demontail Pack, who would have thought that it was really going to be a boy? I'm so proud of you."

She swept towards me, and I felt a familiar longing tug at my heart. I had missed her motherly affection, especially after the rift that had formed between us over Emily. But Davin would not be silenced, his nonstop demands to confront Carol overwhelmed my desire to simply bask in my mother's approval.
