Ch. 141 PICK AN ALPHA

Emily’s POV

Four days had passed since I had come running back to the Demontail Packhouse, my heart's only desire to reunite with my beloved James. And now, I found myself pacing anxiously outside the private clinic room, my fingers wringing together as I expected news of Winston's condition.

The surgery had been underway for hours, and my legs ached from the endless watch. Sinking to my knees, I stared at the wooden door, silently willing it to open to bring me news of my son's wellbeing.

The soft fall of footsteps had me glancing up, and I felt my breath catch in my throat as James approached, his warm gaze finding mine. Wordlessly, he dropped down beside me, wrapping a comforting arm around my shoulders and pressing a tender kiss to my cheek.

"How is the surgery going?" he murmured, his voice filled with concern.

I shook my head helplessly. "I don't know yet, but I can't think straight."
