Ch. 59 THE COMBAT

Alpha James’s POV

I ignored the chants of my pack members, their voices calling out for me to end Emily's life—to kill my mate for the alleged murder of my grandfather. Carol had even joined in their chorus of bloodlust, but I refused to be swayed. In no less than an hour, we had finished digging the grave, the ground parting to create a resting place.

A group of warriors came forward, assisting me as I stood inside the hole, grabbing the casket and trying to lower it gently down into the ground I was standing upon. I managed to secure it, then moved towards the edge, where Nicholas extended a hand to me.

Grabbing his offered support, I was pulled out of the grave, finding myself dusting the sand from my shirt as a warrior handed me my shovel.

All eyes were upon me as I shoved the shovel into the fresh dirt, my voice low. "May my grandfather rest in perfect peace, and may we forever remember the sacrifices he made for this pack." With those words, I poured the first scoop of sand onto
