CHAPTER 92

Kyle King

I tossed and rolled on the bed all night. I was a bit shaken by what Ava had done. The fact that she had been seeing Greg before we got married made me feel like the biggest fool of all time. She even had the audacity to report me to my mother, which made me feel like a monster. Thank heavens, she had taken the message and fled to my mother’s home. I had  instructed the guard and housekeeper not to let her in while I was in the United Kingdom. If she tried forcing her way in, they were expected to call the cops immediately. Whatever drew me to her was dead. It was time to walk away, and this time, make things right with the one who had always been right for me.

The morning came quicker than I expected. I quickly ate breakfast, growled at the chauffeur due to his sluggishness, and repeated my instructions to the guards and Romina.

As the car drove away, I couldn’t help but think about the time when I had wanted to sell the King’s mansion. An impressive structure that had several smaller buildings surrounding it. I used to call it a remake of an old-fashioned castle, but after I got more cash and affluence, I reworked the structure, and it turned out well. An impressive three-story building with large windows taking up the walls. I would have been a fool if I had sold this just to cover up Ava's deeds.

The scales had fallen off my eyes. She was a good thing while it lasted. She made me more popular in my social circle and increased my social media influence, but that was all. Okay, also, made my mother more happy than before, but that was part of the deal. My mother brought her into the family due to her long-lasting friendship with Ava’s mother and as a way to repay whatever happened between them in the past. There were a lot of stories that made up Ava and my relationship—my obsession with her, in particular.

I switched on my phone immediately after the chauffeur announced our arrival at the airport. The message app buzzed with notifications, and something from Ava made me open her message. Fifteen messages said the same thing: she would not sign any papers because she wasn’t ready to leave me yet. I deleted everything and replied to my team, who had arrived in the United Kingdom yesterday.

Xavier's call came in as I stepped into the airport. ‘Hey, man. Where are you? I'm already at the airport.’

‘Yeah, about that, something came up and I got delayed, but I was almost at the airport. What time does our flight leave?’

I sighed. Xavier, and emergencies were nothing new. ‘Our flight leaves in one hour, so get here on time, or else you will miss the flight and would have to wait till evening to get a spot going to the U.K.'

He exclaimed, ‘Wow. The bridge is locked. There was an accident, but the traffic wardens are doing their best to create an alternative route. I should be at the airport in ten minutes' time.’

‘Alright. Once you get here, call me. There was a drama with Ava yesterday, and I am still weighing my options and decisions.’

‘I heard about it. Ava called and told me everything. Strangely, she wasn’t remorseful but demanding. She wants you to reconsider your decision. You know what? We will talk better once I get to the airport.’

Switching off my phone, I strode to the cafe upstairs, taking my large suitcase with me. I still didn’t trust the security guards to watch over them after a sour experience a few years ago.

Thankfully, the café was empty, so I chose a spot where I could observe people go in and out. Also, I needed isolation and peace and added quiet to the list. After Ava’s incident yesterday, I needed to think about my next plan. I couldn’t divorce her yet because Attorney Smith couldn’t guarantee that I wouldn’t be giving her at least forty percent of everything I had worked for. No. He assured me, though, that if I could provide a detailed report with certain evidence of her threats to my life, she mightn’t get anything from me. I had some text messages, but that wasn’t enough, except that I had Christine send in the emails Ava had sent to skip work activities for two years.

I would figure out something at the end of the day. Right now, I had to ensure all the plans for Robert’s project worked while I created time to speak with Tessa. She might be the distraction I needed to forget about Ava for the meantime. I ordered waffled French toast, scrambled eggs, and apple juice. A brunch before stepping onto the plane wouldn’t hurt. Besides, I needed something to keep me busy before Xavier showed up.

_

Xavier adjusted his seat belt, sighing aloud, ‘I can’t believe Ava did that to you, man. I always suspected she had some flings, but nothing serious was going on with them. How could she do this to you? After everything you did for her?’

I sighed, ‘I think this month in the U.K. would be perfect to get myself together. It’s been a week, you know. From losing Uncle David to finding out about Ava’s side chick,

He chuckled, ‘Did you just call her fling a side chick’?’

‘Of course, he is her side chick. Anyway, can we not talk about her? The image of her holding his sweaty body is still haunting me.’

'Alright, but one last question: what are you going to do? Divorce her?’

I picked a book I had brought along to keep me occupied, just in case Xavier was too chatty or had a sleepy head. ‘I haven’t thought about anything, but trust me, Ava is slowly becoming a figment of my past. It’s time for me to truly listen to what I want.’

He smiled and said, ‘I hope Tessa finally forgives you then.’

Hopefully. I muttered to myself, closing the book and my eyes as I thought about the last time Tessa and I spoke in California.
