CHAPTER 91

Kyle King

‘I don’t understand why he would just sell his shares and not bother to let me know until the deal was finalized! I feel betrayed, Xavier.’

Xavier shrugged. ‘Your uncle loves trying new things, and D.K. Company was just one of those things. Have you met the new shareholder? Someone you know?’

I shook my head. ‘No, I don’t know them, but the board members do. They have a popular name and business in New Jersey and here. They were looking for a way to get some extra cash, and Uncle David was the answer to their prayers.’

‘That’s crazy, man, but I think you should be happy. Uncle David wanted the company to himself right from day one. We know how he tried so hard to control your decisions and make you feel inadequate. Man, you should be happy! Besides, you shouldn’t worry about this; you get to see Tessa tomorrow. That’s something, right?’

I nodded. ‘You’re right, Xavi. I am glad he’s gone—well, not totally gone until we complete the Roberts project and I send his share. About Tessa, I am not sure about her. Ava is still here, even though it’s been difficult for the past few days. Can you believe she defiled my orders three times? She doesn’t regard me as her husband anymore.’

He shook his head. ‘Ava is scary, though. She showed up at my workplace and caused senseless drama. She accused me of advising you to leave her and threatened to send someone to shut me up for good. Thanks to the security guards who took her out. She almost spilled hot coffee on my face. You should be careful, Kyle. I don’t trust your wife anymore.’

I agreed. Neither do I. ‘She’s been spending ridiculously, too. I feel she wants to make me broke or probably land me in trouble. I have removed her from our joint account again and for good. I am sorry about what she did.’

‘It’s alright. I need to head back to the office, though. This new job sucks up all my short breaks these days. I can't even have a ‘me time’ anymore.’

I chuckled, ‘Your days of remote and part-time jobs are over, bro. I told you this was the wrong decision, but you didn’t listen. So, stop complaining?’

He shrugged, getting up and saying, ‘You know, I won’t be working right now if you hadn’t messed up Mayor Kim’s grant. See you at the airport by two o’clock tomorrow, okay?’

I nodded, watching him leave. I wasn’t surprised that he hadn’t forgiven me for the grant. It was one of the biggest grants ever, and personally, I had certain plans for it until Tessa happened.

Tessa.

Maybe she will be a little more comfortable with me tomorrow. It’s been months since California, and I had a feeling things would work out well for me, hopefully.

The house door was locked. I tried the doorbell, but nobody seemed to be home. I checked my briefcase for my keys but suddenly remembered I had left it in the house earlier today.

After waiting for an hour and not being able to reach Ava, Romina, and the guard, I decided to check the back door after a robbery incident.

It opened immediately, and after sniffing the air of strawberry pies, I assumed that Romina was home and probably using her headphones.

I paused at the parlour when I heard giggles. Ava’s and someone else.

‘What’s going on here?’ I yelled, dropping my briefcase.

Ava was wearing a long cardigan and laughing with a strange Caucasian man who wore only his briefs.

She glared at me and said, ‘I am taking care of my man, who regards me as a beautiful creature who needs to be spoiled and not spanked! His name is Greg. CEO of an architectural design firm.’

I walked towards her and said, ‘Are you crazy, Ava? Why would you bring a strange man into our matrimonial home and call him your man? Don’t you have any shame at all?’

She laughed, ‘Why would I be ashamed? I am a woman who has needs and wants. You failed to give that to me, so I had to find someone else who was willing to take care of me. Don’t be jealous, Kyle. We can have an open relationship if you don’t like the idea of me belonging to only me.’

‘You think this is funny, right?’ I turned to Greg, ‘Now, you!  Get out of my house before I call the police! You must be a big fool for coming into a married woman’s home and sleeping with her.

Greg smiled, looking at Ava. ‘He’s really an arrogant and angry being, just like you said, darling. I will leave now, but call me later, alright?’

I threw a punch at him, aiming for his nose. I had a crack, and I saw blood immediately. ‘That’s for the disrespect, fool. I don’t want to see you near my wife or this house ever again, or else you will be a cold turkey.’

Ava rushed towards him, but my voice stopped her. ‘Don’t you dare, Ava? Get upstairs and change into something decent while I throw this douchebag out!’

I pushed Greg outside without his clothes and repeated my warnings. He was too busy with his broken nose to respond to any of my threats.

Ava was going to pay for what she did.

‘How could you do this, Ava?’ I demanded, holding her hand. She was still standing at the same spot in the kitchen.

‘You made me do this, Kyle. I left France to be with you, but look at how you are treating me now! Like I am unworthy of your love. Is it because I can’t have kids for you at the moment?’ she asked, her voice shaking.

I shook my head. ‘I have always loved and treated you right more than even Tessa. You were the one I had always wanted, and even without kids, I still loved you. However, right now, I don’t think I do. You cheated on me, Ava, and I don’t think I can forgive you.’

She whipped my right hand off her. 'Fine, but I am not going to sign any divorce papers. You can’t use me and dump me just like that, Kyle.

I smiled. ‘We used each other. You will hear from Attorney Smith. Goodnight.’
