AUTUMN:

My breath caught in the air. I did not look at Hugh right away. Instead, I stared at his fingers sliding into mine. It molded perfectly as if we were made for each other.

‘You two are both made for each other,’ Trisha stated, sighing. ‘He is our mateeee!’

My heart was loud now. Louder than the squeals of Trisha inside her mind. Could Hugh have heard it, too? I wished he could not. It would only embarrass me even more.

Did I like the feel of his hands against mine?

His fingers locked mine and I could feel his callouses—one of the signs of how he worked hard to keep the pack safe. His hand reminded me of the great responsibility he was carrying. Until now.

I fucking loved the feel of our calloused hands against each other. There might be times when I denied it, but when he did something to surprise me, it was always surprising.

Finally, I looked up and saw how Hugh's eyes danced with joy when I did not tug my hand away.

"I love you, Autumn. I really do."

AUTUMN:The late morning sun peeked at the window of Beta Maddox's room, casting a warm golden glow. I found him reading something. A romance novel? Nah. It was so brief that when I entered his room, he hid it under his blanket as fast as he could. It seemed as if he did not want to be caught reading that book. Probably he was reading an erotic book. To kill sometimes. "You looked as strong as a cow," I commented after bringing food for the beta the next day. It was a warm broth, which I had cooked earlier and carefully laid on top of the food tray covered with a cloth to keep the heat in. “Paying Mika a huge amount of money was worth the alpha’s wallet.”He looked like he could go to the battle given how his face was tainted with pink shade now.My heart was already happy seeing the huge changes in his physical body.I was not that evil to ask something bad to befall him. “What did you bring?”“A warm broth,” I answered. “Hugh cooked it for you so you should eat it,” I lied. AUTUMN:I stared at the ceiling and laughed out loud. “Don’t you dare give me your bullshit, Maddox. Don’t lie to me. For what?” He stared at me for a long time, his eyes holding too much emotion. It seemed like he wanted to say something, but was holding himself. “I'm not lying. This is difficult for me, too.” He pulled the blanket from his body. “Oh, please. I did not think I had to spell it out to you, Maddox. Of course, it would be easy for you. It was easy since you rejected me in the past.”His face darkened. "Could we please stop talking about the past?" he asked. Running away from the past again? "This mess started all because you rejected me. And now that I was to be completely free away from you, you're giving me conditions that I don't have any choice but to follow. You're always so selfish, you know that?""It's give and take, Autumn. AUTUMN:Sabrina. How do I describe her? Nothing had changed at her since the last time I saw her. Instead, she grew even more beautiful, and standing next to her, I felt like I was the ugliest of all. I looked really like a slave next to her. This was one of her goals. To make me feel small. And the way she was watching me with my oversized T-shirt shirt and smirking said it all.I stared at myself. Black pants oversized T-shirt. A shirt which I bought from a thrift store as well as some black shoes. I forgot to change into something decent. Earlier, I never thought about making myself presentable. My focus was attending the rehearsal. If I had thought about Sabrina, things might have changed. “Maddox. I’ve been waiting for you!” she greeted and ran towards the beta, and jumped at him. The two almost fell on the ground, but the beta regained his footing. When our eyes met, she smirked at me, dippeddiped her mouth into the beta, and torridly kissed him.If she thought that I would

Not attached to any woman,” he informed while wiggling his eyebrows. He was playful and flirted, by the way. Men like that usually approached me. “No,” I responded, my voice flat. We started walking down the aisle, without glancing at Sabrina. If I looked back, perhaps she was only giving me a death glare for talking to her cousin. • THE ALPHA'S DOWNFALL   [01]

AUTUMN:Fifteen years ago...Autumn was only 8 years old...We sprawled on the grass. The three of us. Maddox. Hugh. And me. All of us were catching our breaths, after running for a long time in the forest. It was fun and exhilarating at the same time. Maddox said it would be more fun if we had our wolves, but we had not reached our eighteenth birthday, yet so there were no signs of it. "That was fun," Hugh declared, the eldest among us being ten years old. But he did not look like ten years old. He had a huge body and daddy said that he would become a fine alpha with all the muscles and genes he had. Between Maddox and him, he was the tallest with the rest of us and the leader of the among us. "If we had our wolves, then, we would be faster than we ran using our feet," Maddox stated. He was one year younger than Hugh was. Two years older than me. But still, it did not stop us from forming a bond. I did not know how our friendship started, but daddy said that it had something to

AUTUMN:Beta Maddox and my eyes met. Then, he opened his mouth, but I could not make out what he was saying. The woman who was kicking me suddenly dispersed and ran away. In a blink of an eye, he was suddenly in front of me and helped me get up. His mouth opened, but I could not hear anything. ‘Mate,’ Trisha whispered.Images of our childhood resurfaced of him promising me to take me as his mate and rejecting anyone if it was not me.This time, this was no longer our decision, but the Moon Goddess herself.Did the Moon Goddess pitied me this time?“Autumn,” he called, glancing at the surroundings. We were in the secluded part of the pack house, where only a few would pass. This was the part of the house going to the utility room where it was also rumored to be housing a lot of ghosts.Beta Maddox helped me stand and nearly released me when we both felt the strong flow of electricity when our skin contacted. It was undeniable and without a doubt he was my mate.Finally.“You are my ma

  • THE ALPHA'S DOWNFALL   [03]

AUTUMN:It had been a week after the beta’s rejection and I was pretending that everything was normal. No. My bad. There were no pretensions anymore because no one was giving me their attention. No one. So there was no pretending at all since they did not see me.I was doing my usual work in the pack house. Cleaning the hallway. Wiping the portraits on the wall. Wiping the dust of the enormous sculptures. Everything was monotonous. And it was already tiring. Lazily, I dragged the mop back to the utility room. I had already finished cleaning everything. There were a few omega's that I had met, but no one bothered to say their greetings. All feared me. A gasp escaped my lips when I felt the sticky liquid on my hair. With shaky hands, I reached out and found out it was nothing but an egg thrown on my hair. Again? Incidents like this were no longer new.The hall rang with laughter coming from my pack members. ‘Don’t tell me you will do nothing?’ Trisha asked, baring her teeth to me.

AUTUMN:I did it again. Forgetting that I should be saying that it was my "friend" who was asking. That it was for a friend.Dang it. I should be careful with my words, especially around Mika. This woman was sharp and I could not hide anything from her. "Y-yes. I'm asking for my friend."Her eyes narrowed, suspicion evident in her eyes. “You sure?” she asked as if she was only waiting for me to come clean and confess that there was no friend and it was nothing but me. I bit the inside of my cheeks. Right now, I should be telling her the truth. And nothing but the truth, but…wasn't it too embarrassing already?“N-No.”Mika heaved a sigh. "I know it's you, Miss Autumn," she said, out loud. "I don't get why you have to deny it. I can sense if you're lying or not.""It's not me," I lied once again, wanting to hold on to the lies. AUTUMN: The beta’s shout of pain continued to explode like wildfire shattering the silence of the hallway. As much as I did not want to feel any worry for him, I could not help it. His shouts seemed like he was being skinned alive. No wonder Beta Maddox does not want to get treated by Mika. It was because of this. “Hey. Tell me the success rate of healing the beta?” I asked. “You’re worried for him,’ he said matter-of-factly. “Alright. Fine. Yes, I am worried even if I should not be feeling it right now. I hated him. I hated how he rejected me, but dammit. I am not that heartless. I still feel sorry for him right now.” “Maddox had the same reaction when it came to this. But we can be rest assured that he is fine in Mika’s hands.” “Are you sure?” “I am sure.” “You seemed to trust that woman a lot. Is there something going on between you and her in the past?” He glanced at me while his eyes narrowed. “Is that jealousy I hinted at in your voice?” “Of course not! I w

AUTUMN:Maddox’s changing his mind about me? That was the most ridiculous thing that I ever heard right now. Why would he change his mind? What happened that I did not know at all? Using the shoes of my heels, I pointed it on the floor. “Tell me. Did he bump his head or something?”“No.”“So that’s the answer, Hugh. Beta Maddox did not change his mind. Maybe…I did not know.”“Then how would you explain how he changed his mind? He did not want to sever his bond. Which might only meant one thing. He changed his mind. Maybe his feelings when we were children returned.”I threw back my head and laughed. “What the fuck, Hugh?” I asked if I was done laughing. “If you’re going to say something, at least you should anchor it to reality. Maddox never changed his mind.” Making my expression serious, I said, “Let’s forget about this and focus on his healing. Let's waste our energy on that. You needed Maddox on the pack while I don't want to continue visiting him anymore.”It would only give
