Alpha Michael's POV: The shrill ring of my phone permeated into my ears and I turned immediately, snatching it up from the cupholder beside me. I decided that it was one of the men working towards rescuing Catherine and the kids that had called. I picked up the call just as I swerved into the next highway that led towards the northern part of the city. I was going to pay Peter a visit. He surely had an idea of where my family was since all he had done in the past few months was remind me that I had to watch my back or else, he was going to strike really hard. Hitting the gas once again, kept driving and brought the phone to my ears. "What's up?" Sniffles came first and confused, I believed it was Catherine and hoped she had gotten a phone and snuck out to call me. "Catherine?" I called again. "Is that you? Are you crying?" "It's Jennifer." At first, I decided to stop in the middle of the road and give her a piece of my mind for calling me this late but I refrained f
Catherine's POV: My eyes fluttered open and I realized that I had been asleep the whole time. Blinking, I looked above me and sighed before lifting my hand and wiping the sweat off my face. A terrible headache billowed at the back of my head. I groaned softly and remained on the floor, noticing that my whole body was wet. When I finally planted my palm on the ground beside me, I realized that the whole floor was bathed in water. So was my body. As the memories of how I had blanked out returned, my headache intensified. I slept softly and remained on the ground, wishing and hoping for this headache to pass. But it didn't. I remained on the floor for a long time, moving in and out of consciousness before a piercing scream had me sitting up with immediate effect. "Oh, no," I groaned and fell on all fours, crawling around the room in search of the door. That scream. It sounded like it belonged to Julia. Realization hit me and I went into a full blown panic
Catherine's POV: I jumped into his arms as soon as I saw him, sobbing heavily as he lifted me off the floor. He pressed his nose into my neck, inhaling softly as he caressed my back. "You're safe," He muttered. "You're really safe. I'm sorry I wasn't around. I shouldn't have left you to leave at the office. Fuck." "It's fine," I cupped his cheeks and looked into his eyes, smiling softly. "Thank you for coming to save me." "Mum!" Julia cried and pulled at my dress. I turned to the both of them immediately and crouched to her level before pulling her into a hug and kissing her on the forehead. I pulled Jason into a hug and held them both close to me, remaining still and savoring their presence in my arms before I pulled away. "What did they do to you both?" I asked, hating that I wasn't there with them in the first place. They should have left me with them. Julia lowered her head and tears began to stream down her cheeks before she spoke. "They didn't let us e
Alpha Michael's POV: I was on my way to get the kids when my phone rang in my pocket once again. Honestly, I was too tired to even check who was calling me and the most annoying part was who was calling. Jennifer. "What do you want?" I asked as I stood at the corner. I didn't want the kids to see me mad and yelling. "Haven't I told you never to call me again? What exactly do you want from me?!" "Yesterday, I asked for us to see at the hotel. I waited all night for you but you never showed up. You didn't even pick your calls or call back. Or didn't you see my calls?" "I chose not to see you. Do you have an issue with that? When did you become a controller of my life, huh?" When she speaks this time, her voice is laced with light laughter and mockery. "Oh, look at you getting all mad at me for calling you. You used to pine for me in the past but now, Catherine is now the order of the day. Are you going to tell her that you'll get tired of her real soon or do you intend on giv
Alpha Michael's POV: If Jennifer thinks she can seduce me by going naked, then she is definitely onto something that would lead to her getting crazily disappointed. "What are you doing, Jennifer?" She shrugged and picked a glass of champagne from the table directly beside her. She takes a sip and comes to stand a few inches away from me before taking me in. "What do you think I am doing, Michael? Don't you remember how this used to turn out? You would pay me a visit and I would be stark naked, waiting for you to take me in your arms and make love to me. Have you forgotten how you would lift me up and plaster kisses down every part of my body before you push me against the window behind me and fuck the living daylights out of me. Don't you miss those times? Don't you want us recreating it or are you pretending not to care? Tell me, Michael. Tell me the fucking truth." I burst into laughter, making sure I have her staring at me like I have grown three heads. "Whatever u
Catherine's POV: It's been several hours and I have heard nothing from Michael. After he shot out of the dining room with speed while we were still laughing and dining, I didn't know what to make of it so I gave him a call after a few minutes and he promised that he was going to be back last night. But it was already noon and I was yet to see him. I keep checking my phone from time to time with the hopes that he was going to call back to assure me that all was well. But I got no calls. Not even Trenton or the other men who's contact I had returned my call. I moved about my day in a melancholic daze. The kids kept asking about Michael and I had to put up with lies, promising that he was going to return tomorrow or so. I told them he had someplace important to keep the questions from coming. After breakfast this morning, I had spent my time asking the guards who hadn't left along with him of his whereabouts and all they kept telling me was that they couldn't let
Alpha Michael's POV: "Are you going to speak or do you want to remain here?" I asked and was already tired looking at Jennifer. She looked up at me and laughed before lowering her head. "There's nothing to talk about, Michael. Do not ask me." "Like I want to," I pull to my feet before checking the time. It's almost evening. To think that I have been trying to get answers from Jennifer while interchanging from my hotel room close by and back, is draining. I am insanely tired but Jennifer is on the verge of telling me the truth. I can't risk that in any way. "Just go on your way. You've been at this for over twelve hours. Do I look like I am ready to tell you the truth? Not at all. So run along. Go back to your family now that the divorce papers have been destroyed!" Scoffing, I burst into laughter. "How poetic of you, Jennifer. You look so serious talking about this and honestly, you couldn't be more right. After you have been properly dealt with, I will return to my f
Catherine's POV: Like Michael is the catalyst to every good thing that has been happening today, Julia is suddenly better when she awakens from her sleep. We were all in the living room, playing monopoly while Jason played with his candies when Julia slipped into the room, surprising us all. She climbed into Michael's arms and he cradled her, whispering into her ears as she whined and soon enough, she was ticking with laughter as he said a few words to her. I had never felt this content and happy since I could last remember but looking at them both now, I knew it was all worth it. I knew I could count on a happy ending. Also, I couldn't wait for Michael to announce whatever was making him happy. You know, I thought something bad had happened when he didn't return my calls last night. I mean, why didn't he pick my calls if everything was alright but seeing him, I knew that even if he didn't have a tangible explanation as to why he didn't return my calls, whatever ann
