I believed what he said because of the care and concern he showed me during the three years of our marriage. Even so, I was still heartbroken when he made those negative remarks against me, especially since he had said it more than once.

Jake held my hand and pleaded, "Please give me another chance, Mindy! Let me make it up to you!"

My heart softened as I looked at him. The three long years I spent with him made it difficult for us to go our separate ways that easily.

I considered the divorce carefully and did not do so out of impulse. With the mandatory cooling-off period in every divorce, I began to give more serious thought to calming down and giving Jake a month to turn over a new leaf.

"Do you genuinely want to save our marriage?" I asked.

He nodded frantically.

I gave him an ultimatum. "Then, you have one month. I'll forgive you as long as you end all contact with Sonia."

Jake was overjoyed to hear that. "Thank you! I swear I won't let you down!"
