Chapter 1

“Lucy, I can finally get rid of you. Michelle is back, you know that I have always been in love with her ever since we were kids. Marrying you was the biggest mistake of my life.” Josh spoke as he looked at Lucy with a heartless gaze.

Lucy’s heart constricted to the point that she could not breathe anymore. Clutching her burning chest, she looked at the man she had vowed to love dearly and suddenly laughed out loud, causing Josh to stare at her in shock.

“What is it Lucy Anne, you think that this is some kind of a joke?”

Lucy stopped her hysteric laughter and lowered her gaze. She hid the pain in her eyes with so much difficulty and after making sure that she had masked her emotions well, she lifted her head and her crystal-clear eyes met Josh’s eyes that were filled with disgust for her.

Josh’s heart trembled for a moment when Lucy looked at him with her clear eyes. A light of confusion and strange feeling flashed through his heart, and before he could grasp anything, it vanished.

Lucy cleared her throat before she spoke, “Josh, how long have we known each other?”

Josh looked at her and without batting an eyelid, he said in his cold voice, “Lucy, you cannot wiggle your way out of this. We are getting a divorce whether you want it or not.”

“I am not saying that I don’t want to divorce you, I just asked you for how long we have known each other.”

“I am not in the mood to answer your baseless question. Just sign the divorce papers and get out of my sight. You have no idea how disgusted I feel just by looking at you.” Josh spoke. There was no remorse in his voice and he looked at Lucy as if he was looking at a total stranger.

Lucy fiddled with her fingers and after a while, she looked at Josh with a resolute gaze. “It is okay, you don’t have to answer. To be honest with you, I also cannot wait to get out of this loveless marriage. I feel like if I stay married to you for another second, I might just suffocate to death.”

When Josh heard that, anger clouded his heart. “Lucy!” he roared.  ‘What was this woman talking about? Did she really think that she could talk to me the way she wanted?’ Josh thought as he looked at Lucy with anger.

Lucy looked at the man fearlessly as she responded, “What?”

She had staked it all on this marriage and now that it has come to an end, she had no choice but to leave. Even though she was hurt and humiliated by the fact that Josh had never loved her, she was not about to let him use that as an excuse to hurt her. She had to protect her dignity at all costs.

She had truly loved Josh for as long as she could remember, but for the three years they had been married, this man had managed to numb her heart so much that she had no feelings left in her. She was like an empty shell with nothing left to live for.

But before she ended everything, she needed to hear this man say the words that she had been yearning to hear all her life.

“Josh, we have been married for the last three years and we’ve had our moments, can you honestly say that you feel nothing for me, even if it is just fake.”

Josh looked at Lucy and threw the divorce papers on the table, “Lucy Anne, stop testing my patience and quickly sign the divorce papers. You know very well the kind of person you are; how could I feel anything for you?”

Although Lucy had prepared herself for such an answer, her heart still felt as if it had been pierced by a sharp object.

She really wanted to know what she had done for this man to hate her that much. Before they married, he was very loving and warm, giving Lucy the impression that he loved her. But after their wedding, Josh turned into a completely different person.

Every time they made out, it was like Josh was exerting revenge on her. Although she felt that something was wrong, she chose to ignore it, assuming that it was Josh’s way of showing love to her.

But his statement just now hinted that there was more to it than what met the eye. Could she have done something that had unconsciously hurt Josh?

She clutched her heart and subconsciously took a step back. She collided with the coffee table but before her butt could hit the floor, someone held her firmly in place, then a voice that she had not heard for the past three years entered her ears, “Sis, are you okay? What is going on here?”

Michelle held Lucy as she asked with her eyes fixed on Josh.

Lucy was surprised by Michelle’s arrival. She was about to turn around and confront her sister but she had only lifted her head when the sound of someone falling on the ground was heard.

Before Lucy could react, a shrill scream sounded as Michelle cried as if someone was about to murder her, “Lucy, what are you doing? I only wanted to help you because I saw that you were almost falling down, but why did you push me instead?”

“Do you hate me so much that you cannot wait to see me break my bones?”

Lucy was shocked by the sudden turn of events.

“I…”

But before she could even utter a single word, Josh passed by her in a flash and quickly held Michelle in his hands. He then turned towards Lucy and roared angrily, “What do you think you are doing, Lucy? Who gave you the right to push Mich?”

“I… I did not push her. She… she fell on her own.”

Hearing that, Josh became angrier, “Oh, are you trying to say that I am actually blind?”

“I… I did not mean that. But I honestly did not push her.”

“Sis, I can understand your pain. I could have been honest with you from the start. I am the one that Josh has always loved and not you.” Michelle cried.

“So, if you want to vent your anger, kindly come at me. I am the one who wronged you and not Josh.”

“Mich, what are you talking about? It is not your fault. Had she not threatened you back then, how could you have been magnanimous and let her marry me. If there is someone to blame, then it is definitely her.”

Lucy was shocked when she heard had that. She had threatened Michelle that was why she ended up married to Josh? How comes she had no idea of what was happening?

“What… what is going on here?”
