I took a small break; I was very busy and didn't have much time to write. I just wanted to say thank you to anyone that's made it to this point, it means a lot that you chose to read my book I really appreciate it.
I looked in the rearview mirror to see Amelia still sleeping soundly. Her blondish brown hair had fallen around her chubby face. She had done so well on this long journey. We were almost to our destination. Lake Orion was a very isolated town in the heart of Alaska surrounded by miles and miles of greenery and we were it's newest residents. I used part of my inheritance to buy a quaint little two bedroom home where Ame and I would be comfortable to grow. The grief of my fathers passing struck my heart again and tears fell down my face. My father was a great man and his life was cut short due to a drunk driver hitting him head on. Amelia didn't fully understand the concept of death at her age, but when she saw her grandpa get lowered into the ground she cried too. It seemed as if our lives was filled with nothing but loss and that's what inspired me to move to a completely new part of the country. We left Connecticut and took on the grueling trip mere months after my fathers death. I
"How's the pizza so far?" asked Jo as she came to check on us."It's fine. Can we actually have the check and a to go box please?" I asked quickly. The sooner we left the better. I felt out of place here and it saddened me. Why the hell didn't I consider this possibility before I moved my daughter here. I mentally kicked myself."Sure thing." Jo left right away to retrieve the items I requested.I paid the check and told Jo to keep the change."Ready baby girl?" a loose ebony curl tickled my ear as it escaped my braid."Ready mama." I helped her down from her seat and grabbed her hand before turning and facing the man who stared me down since walking in a short while ago. When I finally saw him I lost my breath. Good lord he was fine, his skin was tan hinting at native heritage. He had long dark brown hair touching his broad shoulders. His eyes stared back at me a beautiful shade of honey brown. He had a scar along the right side of his face, his o
"They left a note here saying I missed my delivery window which isn't true." I groan. He looked like a strong guy but there was no way he could carry this all without help. "Let me make a quick phone call. I'll handle this." He made his phone call and five minutes later two quads pulled up and big burly men were carrying furniture into my house asking me where to put everything. I felt like a weight was lifted off my shoulders and I didn't even have to do anything at all. About a half hour later everything was placed exactly where I wanted and and the two extra guys pulled off. I thanked them profusely as they left, and promised to make them dinner one night soon. Small town living was already starting to grow on me. The handsome fellow from the diner lingered behind and I walked with him to his truck. "You know you've helped me out twice now and I still don't even know your name." Was I flirting? This sounded like flirting. He chuckled while
Amelia, Zachariah and Jeremiah ran around gleefully at the park. The boys looked so much like their mom, but they had their dads coloring with dark hair and tan skin. Sam had invited us over for dinner about a month ago and we all became fast friends. Jason had offered to help me out with any projects I couldn't do myself to improve the house. The kids hit it off and it was great to see Amelia making friends with other kids. Sam and I were seated side by side on the bench chatting and keeping and eye on the kids when Jason pulled up like a bat out of hell. A familiar big black truck pulled up next to him. Sam jogged over to Jason and Shaw exited the vehicle and joined Jason and Sam's conversation. They all talked in hushed tones and I tried to mind my business. "Hey Kat is it okay if the boys hang at your house for a couple hours?" "Of course. Is everything okay?" I tuck my hair behind my ear nervously. "Yeah one of the log cutting guys got caught in a bear t
Shaw's POV"Kat take the kids out to your car." When I spoke it sounded like a growl. My wolf was barely contained. She hopped up and rushed the kids out immediately. She knew what was coming even without really knowing. I could smell her anger and embarrassment mingling in the air. Whatever happened wasn't good and I intend on finding out exactly what transpired."What the fuck did you say to her?" I walked up to Noah bristling and damn near ready to go for his jugular."I was just kidding around Shaw-" I had my hand around his throat before he finished spewing the bullshit from his mouth."Jax. What happened?" I gritted out bearing my teeth in a show of dominance."He got drunk and made some comments about her and talked to her bad in front of the kids." He shook his head."Is this true?" I glanced at Sean and he nodded."She smacked him in the face too. His wolf got riled up, we had to hold him back and that's when
The next day at exactly noon Shaw was knocking at my door."We'll take my truck; we have to go off road for a bit and then hike the rest of the way. Are you up for it?""I'm capable. What about Ame? How long will we be hiking?""Don't worry about that, I'll carry her.""Do I need to bring anything?" I was still new to the whole wilderness thing, and I honestly wasn't sure."No worries I packed us some things."With that they were loaded up into his truck with Amelia sitting right between them in the front row. I felt a little nervous about Ame being without her car seat, but this wasn't some big city with expressways and traffic. She would be okay. The lumps and bumps of the unpaved road was actually really fun for Ame. Whenever we hit a big bump, she laughed and cheered earning laughs from Shaw and I as well. It was great seeing her experience something new and unfamiliar. When they reached their destination Shaw went to the back of the tru
Today was the end of summer celebration and surprisingly the weather was actually warm enough for Amelia and I to wear summer clothes. I had on a sky-blue dress that reached my knees and brown strappy sandals. I was originally going to go with Samantha and Jason, but Shaw insisted on going together. I wasn't complaining, we had been seeing each other almost every day since our beach date a couple weeks ago. He would stop by after Amelia went to bed or he'd come over and cook for us. It was like he suddenly integrated into our lives with seamless transition. If he went too long without coming by Amelia would even, ask about him. It was then I knew we needed to establish what exactly it is we are doing. I didn't want my daughter being disappointed."Are you finished with your lunch?" I asked Amelia. Shaw would be arriving any minute and I was eager to get to the celebration."Almost mama.""Okay good. We're going to have so much fun today!""Yeah, we are."
Shaw's POVAll this time I thought I was doing everything I could to show her how I felt and yet she had been waiting for me to make a move. I'm such a fucking idiot. I was too busy trying to keep my wolf under control that I didn't realize she wanted me until this afternoon when I kissed her in the kitchen. I parked the Jeep and got Amelia out of her seat.A while later Amelia was finally asleep in her room Katherine came downstairs. I watched her from my seat on the couch with hungry eyes, she had taken off her dress and now wore a silk robe. Her scent was so alluring I felt my canines extend. Fuck this would not be easy to pull off. Focus Shaw Focus. She made her way to me, and I pulled her into my lap cradling the back of her head as I kissed her deeply. She opened her mouth, and I pushed my tongue in twirling it around hers. She clenched my shirt in her hands before encircling her arms around my neck. I reached my hand between us and untied her ro
Noah's POV My body felt stiff and ridged as I came to. I could smell damp earth and the rank stench of death. Old decaying death, not a fresh corpse but something else. As I opened my eyes taking in my surroundings. I realized I was in a decrepit old shed that barely managed to stay upright. My arms were fastened behind me with chains. "Ah, rise and shine sleeping beauty." called an enchanting clear voice. Following the sound, I turned toward the shed door and saw a beautiful woman in a sleeveless red gown. Her skin though olive toned somehow managed to be pale. Her lips were Lucious and full and she was smirking. Smirking with lips as red as her gown, like the cat that got the canary. She walked as though she floated on air. It was unnatural and my wolf was on high alert. "Noah, it's great to finally meet you." She stood before me, and the smell of death overwhelmed me. I looked up at her captivated by her strangeness. "Who are you?" My voice sounded odd to my own ears. "I'm so
Kat's POV "Yes, it's me. How are you? I'm so glad you answered. Your mother must have told you I've been trying to reach you." He sounded as prim and proper as ever. Ugh I rolled my eyes. "Uh, fine. I don't understand why you would want to talk to me, we haven't spoken in years." "Come on Katty don't be like that." I sit on the couch with my elbows on my knees. This day couldn't get any worse. I wasn't even sure why I was still on the phone with this guy. My stomach was in my ass because I already knew Amelia will be brought up. "Stop calling me that it feels much too personal and we're practically strangers after all." Petty? Maybe, but I stand behind it. "Listen, I know the way things ended between us was less than ideal but I'd like to see Amelia." "Why would you want to see MY daughter William, I don't understand." He let out an exasperated sigh on the other end of the phone. "She's my daughter too, Katherine." I took a deep breath and laughed right into the phone. I l
Shaw's POV Today Jason shouldn't have said anything about anything. Now I had to dodge Kats' questions which I really didn't want to do. She was still skating alone where I left her and I felt like a dick for brushing her off that way. I had come to the conclusion that the picture had been taken at her fathers funeral before I even knew her and yet it was being passed around now almost a year later. Things weren't adding up no matter how long I searched for answers and it was driving me to the brink of insanity. Actually what I was doing the last few days was insane. I did the same thing everyday expecting different results. I beat the shit out of Cal, the one who had the picture originally and waited for him to remember anything else about the attack. He hasn't yet, but I wasn't anywhere near done with him. I went to the outer territory looking for anything that could tell me where the other rogues went once they left here. Where were they hiding and when would they be back? Fuck I
Kat's POV It had been a week since the attack and Shaw has been on edge for the last few days. He was confused about who would hire some random pack to attack us, and he had been trying to get to the bottom of it. His new routine consisted of...well I wasn't quite sure. He always came home freshly showered after being at the den all day long. He still slept beside me every night but I missed having breakfast and dinner with him everyday, but his peculiar work schedule has made that nearly impossible. Poor Amelia has been asking for him all week and I made his excuses to her telling her he was busy at his job, but being three years old that only meant so much to her. Today is the ice fishing competition and Shaw said he would be here to pick us up around noon so we could go as a family. However at noon Jason knocked on my door making excuses for Shaw which had become the norm. "Where's Shaw?" I cross my arms in irritation. "He's caught up right now. He'll be done soon but come on Sa
Kat's POV The measurement of time was man made and arbitrary. There were twenty four hours in a day. Sixty minutes in an hour and sixty seconds in a minute. So how was it possible for time to slow down like this? How is it that the hands on the clock seemed to move backwards instead of forward? I was counting every second and yet time did not move. I wasn't entirely sure how much time had actually passed since he left. Amelia was long asleep on the couch beside me. Jason had been in the backyard the entire time waiting for some sign that he was needed. Sam had put her boys to bed and seemed so calm. Her entire aura was calm almost as if she didn't have a care in the world. "Sam, how do you do it? I feel like I'm going crazy." "Well, I've lived here my entire life. This is just a part of life for us here. However you're feeling i
Kat's POV I get up on my knees before him on the bed. Slowly and delicately I lift his shirt exposing his lower abdomen before lifting the shirt over and off his frame. Looking into his golden eyes one last time I lean forward and kiss him right above his jeans. I unbutton them and slowly push them down his legs and he steps out of them. I beckon him forward onto the king sized bed along with me. He follows my silent instructions without hesitation. He looks intimidating in all his glory. His firm chest flexed with each movement and I found myself under his spell. Even on his knees he was tall, too tall for what I need of him now. I push him backwards with my hands on his shoulders. Again he follows my silent command obediently. With his back flat against the bed I climb over him and kiss him deeply on the lips before making my way down to his chest and then his abdomen. The rippling muscles of his abdomen are firm against my lips and I lick the ridges seductively. His huge hand crad
Kat's POV The smell of bacon pulls me from my deep peaceful slumber. I look at the empty space beside me taking in the crumpled white sheets. Over these last few months he had taken to cooking breakfast whenever he stayed over. The memory from last night skated across my brain and I sat up abruptly. He's a wolf, an alpha wolf. I had to admit the news though shocking seemed relatively easy to accept. The real challenge would be adjusting to seeing wolves in my everyday life. How would I know the difference between a familiar wolf or a threatening one? I shake my head feeling the tangled clumps of curls against my shoulders. I decided to shower and get dressed for the day. Shaw mentioned introducing me to the 'pack' today. As I was descending the stairs I could hear Amelia and Shaw in conversation. "How come you always sleep in my mom's bed? Don't you have your own bed?" My eyes doubled in size at the question presented by my daughter. I internally giggle at the in
Kat's POV He just turned into a wolf. Shaw just shifted into a fucking wolf! I feel like my eyes might fall out of my skull. I looked at the dark brown bear sized wolf and instinctively took a step back. For lack of a better word this is obviously a surprise, a shock or any other word that means I was not aware my boyfriend could shape shift into an apex predator. "So, this is the big secret huh?" I try to keep my voice even and calm even though I feel like I could literally drop dead any moment from the shock alone. "Did you choose to be this way?" Can he understand me? He moved his big head side to side signaling a no. I nodded my head and tried to find some part of him that was familiar, and despite everything you hear in movies I looked this wolf right in the eyes. His honey brown eyes looked back at me glowing bright with moonlight. It was then that I recognized him. I knew those eyes and right now I recognized fear within them.
Shaw's POV'Lying by omission was still lying.' That phrase kept repeating in my head as I walked across the street back to Jasons house. I went into the back yard sniffing the air as I went. The stink of the rogue wolf lingered in the air, and it sickened me. We hadn't had a rogue enter our territory in over eight years. Eight years ago, when my father was killed, and I earned this scar on my face I also earned the title alpha of my pack. I was only twenty years old when it happened. A group of rogues had been hitting our borders for months testing our weaknesses until they found one and got through. My father was the first one to realize what was happening and he got there first, no back up or help when they jumped him. He took out as many as he could before he succumbed to his wounds. The ones that got away didn't last long, I hunted them down one by one until I had satisfied my need for revenge. Jason was my right-hand man in all decisions pertaining to t
