Kabadong-kabado ako habang binabaybay ang daan papasok sa Mcdo. Dito namin napag-usapan na magkita.

 

Good thing that we settled our argument on G***l last night. Pero hindi pa rin sigurado kung papayag siya sa offer namin.

I scroll on my feed. Wala naman kasi akong kachat. Cringy that my news feed today is full of cringy couples. Maghihiwalay rin kayo! Hindi totoo ang pag-ibig!

 

I saw a post from Jade just now. She's wearing a white dress on that photo. The background is an unfamiliar car. I clicked the 'like button'.

 

Napansin ko na may nag-add sa akin. Pinindot ko ang 'friend request button' at nakita ang pangalan niya!

Pinag-iisipan ko kung iaaccept ko ba siya. Then I heard a voice from my behind. "Why don't you accept my friend request?"

 

My heart jumped a little bit. Maybe in a shock or nervous. Nagulat ako dahil bigla siyang nagsalita. Hindi ko napansin na nandito na siya. Bakit kasi pinili kong maupo sa nakatalikod sa entrance?

 

He walked towards in front of me and sit on the chair there. Agad kong tinago ang cellphone ko sa bag ko at umayos ng upo.

 

I cleared my throat before speaking. "I made a contract for future purposes." I showed him the contract.

 

"Can we order first?"

 

I nodded. Gutom na rin naman ako. Tumayo na ako para pumunta sana sa counter. Hinihintay ko lang siyang tumayo rin.

 

"Sit down. I will buy for you." He stand up.

 

"I will buy for myself."

 

"Just say what you want and I will buy it."

 

"Fine." iritado kong sabi.

 

I get my wallet inside my bag and get a blue bill there. "Just buy me a spaghetti with chicken. Add some fries. My drink is coke." Nilahad ko sa kaniya ang pera.

 

Hindi niya ito inabot at umalis na! Anong gusto niyang mangyari? Siya ang magbayad ng kakainin ko? Hindi maaari! Baka maging utang na loob ko pa sa kaniya iyon!

 

Maya-maya lang ay dumating na siya dala ang pagkain namin. His orders were same as mine. But instead of spaghetti, he ordered a rice for himself.

 

Ngayon ko lang napansin ang kaniyang suot. A dark pants partnered with a maroon shirt. He's very casual today. Ibang-iba sa Xenon na laging nakasuot ng uniform sa school.

 

Sinamaan ko siya ng tingin nang maupo siya sa harap ko. Samantalang inayos niya ang mga pagkain. Nililipat ang mga ito mula sa tray patungo sa lamesa.

 

"Bakit ba hindi mo tinanggap ang binibigay kong pera kanina?" kunot-noo kong tanong.

 

"This is my treat." he answered cooly.

 

"I don't need your treat. I can buy for myself."

 

He flashed a smile. A smile that I rarely see. A smile like the smile that I saw to him year ago. For some instance, that made me calm.

 

"Can we please not fight in front of food?" Bakit ang lambing ng boses niya?

 

He hand me the utensils. Dahan-dahan ko namang inabot ito. "Let's eat," he said.

 

We ate peacefully. I didn't feel awkwardness anymore. Ngayon lang ako hindi nakaramdam ng pagkailang sa kaniyang presensya. I somehow felt comfortable.

 

I wiped my lips using the tissue for the final process. Xenon is done eating, too. Halos sabay lang kami natapos kumain. Nauna lang siya ng ilang minuto.

 

Hinintay ko munang matanggal ang mga plato, b****a at kung ano pa man dito sa lamesa namin bago ko ilapag sa harap namin ang kontrata.

 

"In case, you want to sign already."

 

"Kid, we just finished eating." his voice sounds teasing.

 

Nag-init ang ulo ko sa sinabi niya. "Anong sabi mo?"

 

"I said, we just finished eating.

 

"Hindi iyon! What did you call me?

 

"Kid," aniya.

 

Calm down, Sapphire. You need to convince him. Huwag mong sungitan.

 

I inhale and exhale to calm myself. I think, I need a retouch.

 

"Read the contract. I just go tothe restroom." malamig kong sabi.

 

I stand up and go to the restroom. Nilabas ko sa bag ko ang liptint at pressed powder. Nagretouch ako dahil feeling ko haggard na ako. I also spray some perfume.

 

When I am satisfied with my look, I go outside the restroom and go back onto our seat. Naabutan ko siya roon na nagcecellphone habang hinihintay ako.

 

Nag-angat siya ng tingin nang mapansin ang presensya ko. I sit on my chair. Nilapag niya ang cellphone niya sa lamesa. 

 

"Have you read the contract?" I asked.

 

"The offer is good. But, convince me more."

 

That night, while mommy and I are eating our dinner together, I decided to ask her something.

 

"Mommy, how do you convince people?"

 

She chewed her food before answering. "Don't ask me that."

 

Nabitawan ko ang kubyertos ko. Napatingin ako kay mommy. Hindi siya tumingin sa akin. Patuloy lang sa pagkain.

 

"Hindi ko nagawang kumbinsihin ang tatay mo na manatili sa atin. So, don't ask me that." her voice cracked at her last words.

 

Nagpatuloy siya sa pagsasalita. "Maybe, you need to try hard. Try your best. But don't enter a situation that you will beg. Baka ang ginawa ko sa tatay mo ay pagmamakaawa. Hindi pangungumbinsi."
