Lilith
I appear back in my kitchen, the familiar smell of lavender and rosemary permeating the air, calming my racing mind. I prowl up and down the already well trodden flagstones. My fingers running through my hair in agitation.
A large Iron kettle began to whistle of the aga, sending out billowing plumes of white steam as it screamed at me that the water inside was boiled. Breaking out of my reverie I stalk over and pull the kettle off of the aga.
Avalon, this was Avalon. I told myself. The same girl who not three months ago knocked on my door, looking for help. I couldn’t very well leave her in her time of need now, could I?
She was my best friend’s daughter. Oona, who like me had been abused and used by the underworld, was more like a sister to me. We had made a promise to each other, even before our children were born, that no matter what happened to us. We would always look after the others child.
It was one of th
Lucas Watching the exchange between my parents was almost an out of body experience. I felt like an intruder. I had never known them at there best, but it was obvious, even to me that there was once love there. It had simply changed of the course of history. Their respective ideals had changed, and the had grown into different people. Lilith held the bloodied dagger in her shaking hand, as she stared at the stop that Lucifer once stood. Her eyes gleamed as tears spilled over, falling down her cheeks. Her lips trembled as she tried to hold herself together. “We should go.” Lysander spoke up behind me. This seemed to break Lilith from her own thoughts as her head whipped over to us once more. “Yes,” she said, hastily wiping her wet cheeks, “but first we should locate where the portal to the hunters realm is. To do that I need to scry.” With that, she turned and walked back towards her cottage, with a wave of a arm and a gesture
AvalonI huddled into the corner of my cot, trying to keep as warm as possible, which seemed an impossibility in this dank room which held no warmth at all.I had been left in the jogging bottoms and shirt that Ben had given me, with no access to blankets or even shoes since I was brought here. The only additional source of warmth I had was the sheet that I brought with me from the underworld.I felt completely helpless. I seemed to spend more time in darkness than in light. The only time I seemed to get any was the brief window that the sun shone through my tiny cell window for a couple of hours a day, before it dipped back behind the cold stone walls.Ben had not bothered gracing me with his presence since our last meeting. The only interaction I had was the occasional guard sliding a tray with a “meal” for me once a day.The meal consisted of stale bread, a small chunk of hard cheese and a glass of wate
Lilith was right, when the wards came down, everyone in the hunters realm would know of there arrival. The ground shook under our feet as Lilith cut through the last strands of the portal, allowing Lysander and myself to cross over the borders. The sound of glass shattering to the floor, and buildings creaking under the sudden movement beneath them was enough of an alarm, that they would soon be besieged by warriors. Lilith collapsed to the floor in the exhaustion, her face pale and beading with sweat. I paused, unsure whether to help her or carry on with the task at hand, I had a limited window in which to get Avalon and then get out, and the more time that passed, the more difficult it would become. She waved me away as if to tell me she was alright when she noticed my hesitation. I give her a small nod and follow Lysander across the bridge. Hunters were running about across the yard in front of us, the vast majority unarmed. Our attack had ca
No longer than ten minutes after he had left, Ben returned, opening my cell door with a loud rattle. His nose was bloodied, dribbling down his chin and staining his white t-shirt. I wanted to ask him what was going on, but the way he stalked into me cell, his face a dark scowl and his eyes trained on me, made me stop in my tracks. He reached forward, grabbing the top of my arm and pulling me against his hard body, my back to his front. I could feel his strong fingers digging in painfully to my flesh. His mouth flush against my ear, his breathing ragged and the smell of copper permeating the air making my stomach roll. “Your boyfriends outside, Avalon. Did you know that?” He spoke as if it were an endearment he was whispering to me. His free hand moved up and cupped my breast, squeezing it painfully. “Perhaps we should leave you with a parting gift, humm?” He suggested. I didn’t take much for me to realise what he was suggesting, he was implyin
My mind was struggling to comprehend what was happening in front of me.I kneel on the floor, my hands flat out before me on the ground. I had no recollection of how I managed to break free of my cuffs. I could only assume that the fiery blast had freed me from their confines.A gentle drizzle had began to fall from the dark sky, clouds gathering in, and a sense of mourning filled the quite courtyard.Smoke danced all around us like a mist that wouldn’t dissipate, the smell of burnt flesh and fat stung my eyes and nose as charred bodies and piles of ash lay littered about the floor like some horrific horror movie scene. The only body which remained untouched was that of Lucas. I wasn’t sure how he had managed to survive the blast unscathed, yet he had. I assume our bond had protected him.I crawl towards his lifeless body on my hands and knees. Tears still streaming down my face.He laid on the floor unmoving. But as I crawl acro
“Lucas?” I whisper to him gentle, my voice cracking with pure emotion as I tried to hold my grief back. “Please wake up my love.” Placing a hand to his shoulders, I shake him, enough that his eyes flutter open to small slits. It was enough to tell me his is still alive. Based purely on the amount of blood under me, I didn’t have to be a healer to know that he didn’t have much time. “Lucas, please don’t leave.” I lean my head against his, my tears rolling down my face and falling onto his. “We still have so much to do my love.” “I love you so much, my beautiful Lonnie.” His voice echoed in my head, to weak to say the words out loud. “Don’t ever change.” “I won’t, I promise you Lucas, but you can’t leave me here Lucas. This is not the end of our story.” My tears came thick and fast, as I struggled to come to terms with the fact Lucas was bleeding out. “I can’t live without you my love, not now.” “I wish,” His words echo in my mind, barely audibl
Lilith disappeared from sight in the arms of Dario.Confusion clouded my mind as I try to make sense of everything that had happened to me. I couldn’t help but feel that this was all part of a larger plan that I had no idea on.Dario was obviously Lilith’s lover, did he know about who I was before he sent me to her door? He must have done. Otherwise why trust me with the address of someone so dear to him.I look down at Lucas, Lilith forgotten for now. His breathing was shallow but ragged. His mind had gone blank and he did no respond to any of my attempts to rouse him.I watch with hopelessness, as the realisation dawned on me that there was nothing else that I could do for Lucas now.As he took his last breaths, tears slipped from my eyes and pain from my heart. Our bond began to fade, leaving a gaping hole in my chest. I wait for the onslaught of pain and the in turn my own demise. After all we had completed the bond. And so I
“Princess,” Lord Tyrell spoke in a low lilt, “How lovely to see you again.” His eyes rake my body, taken in my bedraggled appearance and blood-stained attire. “I wish I could say the same Tyrell, but I’m afraid I can’t.” My bored tone evidently hit a nerve, Tyrell’s already red eyes, flashed even more crimson, if that were even possible. “Let me save you the trouble then Princess, I have an army of 5000, all camped in these woods, you can come with me now, unharmed, or you can try to fight your way out. Either way, I don’t mind, but there is only one outcome.” His voice lost the earlier civility and turned into something far more sinister. “I have no wish to fight you, Tyrell.” “Then you will come willingly.” He finished for me, holding a hand out before him in a gesture for me to take it. “I cannot come with you.” “Then we are at a bit of an impasse Princess. You see, I want you to come with me, and I have the army to make you.” His e
