Shadowed Creatures

I don’t remember much of my Childhood. Most of what I do know, was what I have been told. Which still doesn’t account for much. I know that when I was 8 my Parents were murdered, but I do not know why. I know that when my fathers body was recovered it was torn to shreds, that not anything human could have done the terrible things to him, my mother’s body was never found. I know that I was found 3 days later hidden behind a secret panel in the basement of my parents lakeside home, but I cannot remember being there. I know that my Dad was apart of an elite group of humans known as the Hunters. I have been told my Dad was the best fighter in recent history, accounting for well over 100 kills during his time as a warrior, but I cannot remember him. I step over the bridge that connects us to the human world, It feels like in wading through water. The current pushing me back. The air becomes thick making it difficult to breath. I keep pushing forward, the more I push the harder it becomes. Just when I think I cannot cross over, a bright light shines out through a crack in the void. Continuing forward finally reaching the source of the light and squeeze myself through. I fall forward and land on my hands and knees with loud thud. It was as if something was holding me up and now has released me from its grasp. I gulp for air, trying to gather myself. I do not remember crossing into the headquarters before, although I must have done when Darren first brought me there so many years ago.   I wake up the next morning to bright light blaring into my face. Holding my hands up to shield my eyes from the light, I realise that I’m back in my bedroom. Still in my clothes from last night and a soft fluffy blanket draped over the top of me. Lilith must have managed to get me upstairs last night. My head is pounding recalling the details of our conversation last night. Somehow I feel like a weight has been lifted from my chest. So much of my life has been lived completely in the dark. Not really knowing who my parents were or where I came from. And now I know. Not only am I Hunter and a half demon, but I am also bound to another person and I am a royal fire wielding kick arse hunter. It was a lot to take in, but it felt right to me, I wasn’t scared of the information. I guess a part of me always new the truth, I just couldn’t remember. I couldn’t remember Lucas, how could I have ever forgotten about him. My heart aches just at the thought of him.

It took me a while to pull myself together and find the energy to return back to Lilith’s cottage. I knew I had no choice, I couldn’t just continue lying on the ground wallowing in self pity for all eternity. I had questions. Questions that only Lilith would know the answers too. At least that was the hope. It was well past midday by the time I had returned, the sun hovering over the tree line. The air held a light chill to it signalling the start of a new season approaching. I push the front door open and let myself in. Following the smell of homemade cooking I headed towards the kitchen. Lilith insisted on starting my training almost straight after our chat. Something that I was both pleased about and dreaded to my bones. I was very conscious of the fact that my birthday was mere days away, and I didn’t want to find out what would happen if I wasn’t prepared.
