Shirley's POV
“Water,” I croaked as I opened my eyes from the annoying beeping sounds coming from the machines around me. I knew I was in a hospital.
Why? I didn't know but I hoped someone would tell me soon. My whole body hurt like hell and my throat was dry.
“Water,” I grunted and coughed in a bid to clear my throat but it didn't work. It felt like something was stuck there and wasn't coming out.
The door opened and I leaned up to see my mother, Sharon walking in.
“Finally you’re up.” She walked towards me with a straight face, no smile, she looked so cold that I almost didn’t identify her.
“Mom?”
“I need water Mum,” I groaned and she looked away pretending not to hear what I said to her. “Mummy.” I called her again, but she still didn’t answer me.
“Are you upset? Did I do anything wrong? Why are you not talking to me?” I asked her, still sounding very weak.
Sharon didn’t say anything to me, she sat beside my bed looking at me like she was seeing a ghost. This is very unlike Sharon, though she can be cold sometimes but it has never been this bad. “Say something mum, you’re scaring me.” I pleaded.
I inhaled sharply as tears welled down my eyes, her silence was hurting me.
“I'm sore all over. What happened?”
She stood up from where she was sitting and took a seat by the edge of the bed. “You don't remember?” At the shake of my head, she sighed and continued. “You had an accident and you were rushed to the hospital by a gentleman.”
I frowned as I tried to recall what had happened. The events leading up to the accident were a bit of a blur. “I remember the wedding, Felix…” I trailed off as images started popping into my head one after the other like a film. “Where is Felix?”
“Are you sure you remember everything?” Mum asked, as she looked at my face carefully like she was trying to figure out something.
“I was waiting for Felix at the altar but he never came. Come to think of it, you and Dad weren't present either.” I turned to look at her with a serious expression, but at the moment I was not interested in that, my only concern now is Felix. “Why isn't Felix here?” He's my fiancée and he should be fawning over me.
Mom looked like she was not moved by my words. “We had a very important place to be, I mean my daughter was getting married the same day.” I was confused. From what I could remember I am the only child she has .
“Mom, what are you talking about?” Her phone pinged and I snatched it up before she could cover whatever it was up.
Something felt terribly wrong but I couldn't put my finger on it.
I saw a thousand notifications since my mother had never been one to clear them before and scrolled through to see one from I*******m.
“Give me back my phone, else you’re going to regret what you see.” Mum said to me as I was going through the phone.
I clicked on it and it took me straight to Amelia's page. Amelia was my best friend of three years and one of the few people I trusted outside Felix and my parents.
I scrolled through hoping for an answer to my dilemma and then I stumbled on a video.
“Shirley, you're so stubborn, give me back my phone.” She tried to pluck the phone out of my hand but I turned to her other side putting the phone out of her reach.
My eyes widened when I saw Felix standing at the altar with a wide grin on his face as a veiled woman walked up to him.
Why would Amelia post something like this? The woman wasn't me because Felix hadn't been decent enough to show up for our wedding.
I had been standing around in my wedding dress looking pathetic while he never showed up.
“Who's the bride, Mum?” I asked my mother as I spotted her face amongst the people in the video. I suddenly recalled that she talked about attending her daughter’s wedding. My head was spinning. I just wanted to wake up from this horrible nightmare.
She was sitting beside my father who had a huge smile on his face.
“What is this mom? Why do I see you here? And why is Felix getting married to another woman? Is this a prank?” I started laughing at the thought that they were trying to prank me, but then I realized there was no change in emotion from my mom, then I realized it’s reality. “Talk to me mom! Say something!” I yelled angrily.
“You’ve seen it all, what do you want me to tell you again?”
I sneered and turned to glare at her. “Mum, did you know Felix was never going to marry me from the start?”
She was completely emotionless while I was dying inside, my heart was burning “He wanted a true Anderson.”
“Mum, what are you saying?” I whispered to her as tears began streaming down my face. “You and Dad were there grinning from ear to ear as Felix married someone else,” I roared and she shrunk back, standing on her feet.
“We didn't mean for any of this to happen but Felix made his choice,”
I scoffed but looked down at the photo as the rest of the ceremony played out before my eyes.
The bride's face was still covered and Felix looked so happy, his smile was blinding.
I held my breath as Felix leaned forward to raise the veil.
Mum stood up just then and reached for the phone but the veil was off and I gasped as I saw the person. “That's enough, you should get some rest.”
She tucked her phone away but the damage was already done.
I gulped as tears filled my eyes. “Amelia and Felix?”
She sighed and looked at me, she was not moved by my tears nor my words, it felt like I was talking to a log of wood. “I will be on my way now.” I was still too startled to say a word to her.
The moment she walked out of the room, I snapped out of my reverie and slid off the bed.
I had to see Amelia, she had a lot of explaining to do. Why would she be marrying my fiancée? None of this made sense.
I stepped out of the room and slammed the door shut behind me.
I spotted Mum slipping into a hospital room and followed her.
When I got close enough, I could hear voices. I picked up on Felix's deep voice and Amelia's cool one.
“She's awake and she's asking a lot of questions.” Mum said, her voice echoing in my mind.
“Well the transplant was successful so we don't have to pretend anymore.”
I frowned. Transplant? What are they talking about? Summoning the courage, I pushed the door open and walked in.
Everyone froze, even Mum.
“Hey Shirley, you're awake. How are you feeling?” Amelia asked, her smile looking forced.
I narrowed my eyes and looked down at the huge diamond ring on her finger. “Where did you get that?”
She looked down at her hand and stretched the hand properly like she wanted me to see it very well . “Oh it's nothing. It's my husband’s family heirloom.” She slid off her bed and walked up to me.
“You shouldn't be on your feet. Why don't you go back to bed?” I was hurting, why is she still pretending to care when obviously she doesn’t.
I shrugged her off and slapped her hard across the face. Mum gasped and Felix glared at me but I was fazed.
“How dare you?” Sharon asked angrily, I slapped Amelia but it’s mom that’s yelling at me, when she’s supposed to be on my side.
“How dare you, Amelia? You're supposed to be my best friend. Of all the men, couldn't you have married to anyone else? Why did it have to be my Felix?”
She leaned up and started laughing. “Your Felix?” She breathed out when she calmed down. “Dear he was never yours.”
“What do you mean?” I asked as a sinking feeling enveloped me.
She looked back at Mum and Felix. “Who's going to tell her?”
“Tell me what?”
Shirley's POV“You're just a spare tire,” Amelia said. Her usually cool voice was now bitter as her eyes flashed with hatred. “What are you talking about?” I choked, refusing to believe it. She turned to my mother and smirked. “Mum, you want to do the honours?” “Sorry darling, I already told her but she’s just too slow to understand what I was talking about. I became confused all over again, “what are they talking about? What did she try telling me that I didn’t get?My eyes widened and I coughed when I finally realized what they were talking about. “What are you saying? Oh my goodness, where's the camera, fine y'all got me, please round it up cos I'm losing my mind right now.” I said to them but no one moved, they didn't act like I was talking to them, then I figured out Felix was standing there looking at me with guilt, mom and Amelia looked cold. “It’s true?.” “It's English Dumbo. You are just the adopted one and I had to pretend to be just your best friend, mom had twins, sho
Shirley's POV I snapped out of my thoughts and pulled away just as the driver walked up to me. He frowned down at the little boy and pulled him away. “I apologise Miss but he must have confused you with someone else. He does this a lot so pay him no mind.” The little boy in question struggled against him and kept stretching to touch me. I sighed and leaned down, picking him up in my arms. Immediately his cries and protest stopped. “I'll just stay with him until he falls asleep.” The driver opened his mouth to argue but I shook my head. “If that's okay, of course,” I added as he struggled within himself. He gave me a curt nod and I smiled. “Could I get some dry clothes?” He sighed and nodded, motioning for me to continue walking. I adjusted the boy's head on my chest and started walking up the stairs again. Once we reached the top stairway, the little boy raised his head and pointed at a door. “That's your room mummy!” He yelled excitedly and started bouncing in my arms. I g
Shirley's POV He chuckled, the sound both mocking and intimidating. “You won't,” I blinked. “Excuse me?” He cleared his throat. “You won't refuse because deep down you know you need my protection.” He stood up from the table and walked back to his seat. “You're all alone now. Your family and everyone you ever cared about betrayed you. Your whole life is a lie and you are angry. I can help you get revenge against them.” I sucked in a breath, his words opening up the wounds that were beginning to heal. And he was right, I was alone and didn't have anyone. “You can think about it but you don't have time. I do always get what I want and seeing as my little boy is convinced you're his mother, I will make sure it stays that way.” I shivered and swallowed saliva. “I need to go and prepare for my day..” I whispered as I staggered to my feet. “You're attending Yvonne Steel's birthday party.” He announced and I whipped around in shock. Has he been stalking me or something? “Adam will ta
Third Person's POV Shirley felt like she was hallucinating or suffering from a hearing problem. “Uncle Jackson?” Felix muttered as he let go of my hand. “What are you doing here?” Jackson ignored him and turned to the woman who was standing there, looking utterly confused. “Darling, would you like to retouch your makeup in the car?” Shirley stammered. “I…there's…sure.” She eventually gave in and allowed him to lead her to the car. Amelia pinched Felix's hand and glared at Shirley's back, envy trimming in her eyes. “How did she even know him? Why would he want someone as plain as her?” Felix was too stunned to pick up on the jealousy in her voice. “I don't know. What is he even doing here?” He turned to ask his grandmother but found that she had walked off. He sighed and patted Amelia's arm. “They are crazy,” Felix said and walked away, Amelia followed behind but paused for a moment.Amelia bit her lip and stared at the luxury car parked in the driveway. She smirked as an evil p
Shirley’s povThe next morning. I woke up very early in the morning and sat up on the bed while yawning with my hand covering my mouth. I suddenly had a flashback to what happened last night. My heart started beating faster than normal then I placed my hand on my chest. “I can’t believe he actually did that yesterday.” I muttered and placed my hand on my head feeling conflicted. The more I tried not to think about it the more it lingered in my mind. I heaved a sigh of worry, there were so many things to consider, which is why I was living more in accepting then rejecting it. Seeing how arrogant Amelia has become because she succeeded in getting Felix. I thought life would be very difficult for me if I don’t accept Jackson, they’re going to keep rubbing it in my face that they were able to hurt me. But considering what he does, Jackson is a dangerous Mafia, my life could be in danger living with him. I was getting frustrated and tired thinking about everything, I fell back on the b
Third person povJackson was pissed to hear the kind of question Felix asked him. He turned to look at Felix and smirked. “Do I look like a child that doesn’t know what he’s doing?” Jackson asked. His tone was so scary that even Shirley shivered a little. Felix quickly turned his straight face into a smile. “Uncle, I didn’t mean it that way, I was only wondering why you decided to rush the proposal, you don’t even know the kind of woman she is.” Shirley was fuming while listening to what Felix was saying to his uncle, she knew Jackson isn’t the type to be easily manipulated but words like that can put a seed of doubt in his mind, the only good thing is that the marriage isn’t real. “Felix can you stop!” Shirley yelled at the top of her voice, getting the immediate attention of everyone. Amelia smirked sheepishly the moment she heard Shirley. “Are you about to show everyone the real you?” Amelia asked. “What? Haven’t you two done enough? you are married now, can you stay out of my
Shirley’s povI still can’t wrap my head around the reality that I would be getting married to Jackson, so many things were going on at the same time and there’s Dylan too, whom I need to consider before doing anything because of how much he likes me. I patted his head softly as he was laying beside me because he refused to sleep in his room last night. He wanted to spend time with me here. Today is the wedding and I am not even sure I’m taking the right step. I gently got up from the bed and headed out of the room, by the time I got to the sitting room, it almost looked like a completely different place. How were they able to set up immediately? The sitting room was used as the hall for the wedding tonight. Yvonne wants it to be just a small gathering of people. She didn’t want a crowd so she chose to use the house and there’s no one that can object to her decision. I rushed back to my room, it’s really happening. I’m really getting married today. I rushed into the bathroom to t
Shirley povBefore I could ask him any question he placed his lips on mine, I couldn’t resist it because it’s not just what the crowd wants, it’s also what I want. We kissed passionately and almost forgot it’s our wedding. “This can continue in the room later.” The wedding host announced and there was laughter from the crowd as we both stopped. I was so shy that I couldn’t look him in the eyes after the hot kiss we shared. I raised my head shyly to look at the crowd and they were still smiling and having little side talks. The only person that her eyes were fixed towards my direction was none other than my sister, or rather my parents' biological daughter and her husband. He angrily stood up and walked away, looking like he was affected by the hot kiss. Our eyes met and she smirked before looking away while shaking her glass of wine in a stirring form. I knew she wasn’t happy for me and good thing she’s not pretending to be. It was time to greet the guests. It was supposed to be a l
Hearing that Matilda had sex with Jackson wasn't anything to me because I knew exactly what happened that night. I didn't want to say a word because I was waiting to see the kind of trick she's still going to pull.I feel like I have been putting up with love nasty things that Matilda does in this house and maybe now wait a time for me to put her in a place at least for once since she has refused to get the memo even after our last conversation. I smiled at Jackson while he was eating breakfast, both of us haven't made a relationship official because I don't know if he feels the same way that I feel about him, so I am trying my best to get ahead of myself and end up getting embarrassed. I feel like I'm waiting for the best time when I will finally be able to express my feelings to him but for now I have Matilda to deal with.“See you later at night.” Jackson said to me when he was done eating breakfast as he headed out of the house.I was the only one seated in the dining room while
Writer's povAt this point Matilda was all set to do anything at all that will make sure Jackson and Shirley are no longer together because seeing them talk a few minutes ago made her feel even more upset. The reaction she was expecting from Shirley is not what she got which was making her very upset and even uncomfortable because she was thinking Shirley you might want to do something stupid to her. Even though this seemed like a very good opportunity for Matilda to pin this pregnancy on Jackson she was still nervous about it she didn't know how successfully it's going to turn out so she was kind of scared about telling him.Matilda couldn't stop pacing around her room thinking of how to break the news to Jackson and definitely Shirley has to be there. She was calculating in her head when would be the best time to bring up this news because last night was their first time together even though nothing happened.Matilda picked up her phone immediately to check how many days it takes t
Writer's povJackson was wondering what Matilda is still doing in his room after she has gotten what she wants. “Get out of my room.” He said to her angrily trying not to raise his voice too loud but Matilda was still acting stupid so he had no other choice but to raise his voice and that was when she finally agreed to leave his room. Jackson felt something was wrong because he cannot remember what happened. He sat on the bed and closed his eyes trying to remember everything that he said or the things that he did but he just couldn't remember anything. He decided to go into the bathroom, turned on the shower and stood under for a while but still he couldn't remember what happened. Jackson felt like he was going crazy as he was trying to remember but couldn't even get a glimpse of what happened last night between him and Matilda. He finally realized that the reason why Matilda hated Daphne so much is because she always wanted him. He cut the clue years ago when he was still married
Writer's povMatilda was so happy because her plan was finally making progress. Ever since she got here she hasn't had the opportunity to do what she's here for. Now there is enough opportunity for her to get what she wants and she's not going to misuse it.She finally got to the room with Jackson and laid him on the bed. She was so happy because finally she would be able to spend the night with him and then pin her pregnancy on him, that's how she would be able to be the one in charge of the house and the first thing she's going to do is kick Shirley out of the house. While she was removing her dress Jackson fell asleep which was not supposed to happen. Matilda tried waking him up several times but he wasn't responding; he had already fallen deep asleep. Things are going wrong from that moment she realized she might not be able to have sex with him but she can at least frame him for sleeping with her after all she's already pregnant all she has to say is that he is the father of he
Writer's povShirley hated it so much that tears well down her eyes because she didn't want to act like a weak person in his presence. She wanted to make him feel that she is okay with the way things are going in their lives but at the same time she couldn't control her emotions because nothing is going the way she wants. First was the betrayal that came from her family and then she found out that the person she knew as her aunt was indeed her mother, her biological mother, and the same person that stood her up on their wedding day now wants her back.Everything happening was messing with her head because everything was happening so fast. She was wondering why she couldn't just be happy without facing any issues. “Everyone wants me away from their lives. A few days ago Amelia was here and she said the same thing that Matilda said to me. It just feels like everyone sees me the same way and they all want me away from their lives.” Shirley explained to Jackson. She didn't tell him all
Shirley povMatilda looked shocked to hear what I said. I can't believe she was thinking that I would go along with her plan without even thinking about it. She must really take me for a fool.“Did you just call me stupid?” Matilda asked me.“Well, that's because you are stupid.” I replied to her immediately. “You know you are crossing the line already.” Matilda said to me angrily. “Oh so i’m the one crossing the line now, a few minutes ago you were telling me about how you want me to leave here just so that you can take over and now you're talking about crossing the line when you crossed it first.” I said to her angrily.“You still don't get it. I was only trying to help. I don't know why you keep acting like I am the problem. When in truth I was only helping.” I couldn't help but laugh when I heard what she said to me. “You came here because you wanted Jackson to get you laid right? I can definitely see through you.” “I will not have you insult me like this.” Matilda said to me
Writer's pov“This is about you leaving this house and never returning because there is absolutely nothing you are doing here. I can obviously take care of my sister's son after all, he is still my blood.” Shirley was completely speechless. She couldn't say anything why Matilda was talking but she was very upset while looking for the right words to say so she won't be too rude.“Matilda, I am tired of listening to you and all I want to do right now is go into my room and have a nice rest.”“Don't you get what I'm saying? I just told you to…“To what! Are you even listening to yourself? You expect me to walk out of my marriage just because I don't have a child for him yet. Well let me ring a bell in your ear just in case you have forgotten your sister was married to him for 7 years and they had a child a few years before she died, just as she waited for the right time I am also waiting for the right time.” Shirley said angrily and was about to walk away Matilda held her hand again. “I
Shirley povI was thinking about going to see our little boy in his new school and see how he's doing because I've been too busy to go there. There's just been so much going on especially with Matilda's presence everything has just been going off.“Good morning.” I greeted Jackson with a bright smile on my face as I was setting the dining table for breakfast. I told the maid not to worry about setting dining because I will do that myself. Jackson also looked like he was in a good mood. He sat down at the diner also with a bright smile on his face. It's something that rarely happens. After setting the dining table I sat down and we both had breakfast for the first time since Matilda visited. We were eating breakfast without her and it felt so peaceful, I really hope something like this can happen continuously. While we were eating I told Jackson about wanting to go see our little boy today and he seemed really cool about it because it's been a while since he also saw his son so he thou
Writer's povAmelia was busy plotting on how the kidnap would take place meanwhile, Shirley and Jackson were dealing with Matilda's annoying attitudes and they had already gotten tired of her presence in the house. As much as she wanted to give Daphne the last respect by respecting her sister and giving her a roof over her head she still thought that Matilda was being annoying because she was making it look like she was the one doing them a favor by staying in their house. Each time Shirley gives the cook an order to make something Matilda would make sure that she changes the meal into what she wants using Shirley's name to do it, which was becoming even more annoying. While Shirley was downstairs using her phone she sighted Matilda walking downstairs as well. She was happy earlier when Matilda stayed in her room. Now all of a sudden she's coming downstairs again for no other reason but to look for trouble.“What are you doing?” Matilda asked rudely. Shirley had to pretend like she di
