Shirley's POV
“Water,” I croaked as I opened my eyes from the annoying beeping sounds coming from the machines around me. I knew I was in a hospital. Why? I didn't know but I hoped someone would tell me soon. My whole body hurt like hell and my throat was dry. “Water,” I grunted and coughed in a bid to clear my throat but it didn't work. It felt like something was stuck there and wasn't coming out. The door opened and I leaned up to see my mother, Sharon walking in. “Oh dear, you're awake!” She rushed towards me and smiled. “How are you feeling?” “I need water Mum,” I groaned and she quickly poured me a glass from the jug sitting on the nightstand. “Hold on, let me help you sit up.” She placed one hand behind my head and the other was to support me as I struggled to sit up. “There you go,” I thanked her as I brought the glass to my lips and drank. “I'm sore all over. What happened?” She placed the glass on the nightstand and took a seat by the edge of the bed. “You don't remember?” At the shake of my head, she sighed and continued. “You had an accident and you were rushed to the hospital by a gentleman.” I frowned as I tried to recall what had happened. The events leading up to the accident were a bit of a blur. “I remember the wedding, Felix…” I trailed off as images started popping into my head one after the other like a film. “Where is Felix?” “What can you remember dear?” Mum asked, looking nervous. “I was waiting for Felix at the altar but he never came. Come to think of it, you and Dad weren't present either.” I turned to look at her with a serious expression. “Why isn't Felix here?” He's my fiancée and he should be fawning over me. She gulped and looked away. Her phone pinged and I snatched it up before she could cover whatever it was up. Something felt terribly wrong but I couldn't put my finger on it. I saw a thousand notifications since my mother had never been one to clear them before and scrolled through to see one from I*******m. I clicked on it and it took me straight to Amelia's page. Amelia was my best friend of three years and one of the few people I trusted outside Felix and my parents. I scrolled through hoping for an answer to my dilemma and then I stumbled on a video. “You should rest dear, you're not feeling well.” She tried to pluck the phone out of my hand but I turned to her other side putting the phone out of her reach. My eyes widened when I saw Felix standing at the altar with a wide grin on his face as a veiled woman walked up to him. Why would Amelia post something like this? The woman wasn't me because Felix hadn't been decent enough to show up for our wedding. I had been standing around in my wedding dress looking pathetic while he never showed up. “Who's the bride, Mum?” I asked my mother as I spotted her face amongst the people in the video. She was sitting beside my father who had a huge smile on his face. “Dear, I think you should rest. You can't watch that.” I sneered and turned to glare at her. “Mum, did you know Felix was never going to marry me from the start?” She avoided my gaze as she shrugged. “How was I supposed to know?” “Mum don't lie to me,” I whispered to her as tears began streaming down my face. “You and Dad were there grinning from ear to ear as Felix married someone else,” I roared and she shrunk back, standing on her feet. “We didn't mean for any of this to happen but Felix made his choice,” I scoffed but looked down at the photo as the rest of the ceremony played out before my eyes. The bride's face was still covered and Felix looked so happy, his smile was blinding. I held my breath as Felix leaned forward to raise the veil. Mum stood up just then and reached for the phone but the veil was off and I gasped as I saw the person. “That's enough, you should get some rest.” She tucked her phone away but the damage was already done. I gulped as tears filled my eyes. “Amelia and Felix?” She sighed and tucked the covers underneath my body. “Sleep now. I'll go get you some food.” The moment she walked out of the room, I snapped out of my reverie and slid off the bed. I had to see Amelia, she had a lot of explaining to do. Why would she be marrying my fiancée? None of this made sense. I stepped out of the room and slammed the door shut behind me. I spotted Mum slipping into a hospital room and followed her. When I got close enough, I could hear voices. I picked up on Felix's deep voice and Amelia's cool one. “She's awake and she's asking a lot of questions.” Mum said, her voice echoing in my mind. “Well the transplant was successful so we don't have to pretend anymore.” I frowned. Transplant? What were they talking about? Summoning the courage, I pushed the door open and walked in. Everyone froze, even Mum. “Hey Shirley, you're awake. How are you feeling?” Amelia asked, her smile looking forced. I narrowed my eyes and looked down at the huge diamond ring on her finger. “Where did you get that?” She looked down at her hand and quickly hid it behind her back. “Oh it's nothing. It's a family heirloom.” She slid off her bed and walked up to me. “You shouldn't be on your feet. Why don't you go back to bed?” I shrugged her off and slapped her hard across the face. Mum gasped and Felix glared at me but I was fazed. “How dare you?” She asked and I scoffed. “How dare you, Amelia? You're supposed to be my best friend. Of all the men, couldn't you have married to anyone else? Why did it have to be my Felix?” She leaned up and started laughing. “Your Felix?” She breathed out when she calmed down. “Dear he was never yours.” “What do you mean?” I asked as a sinking feeling enveloped me. She looked back at Mum and Felix. “Who's going to tell her?” “Tell me what?”Shirley's POV “You're just a spare tire,” Amelia said. Her usually cool voice was now bitter as her eyes flashed with hatred. “What are you talking about?” I choked, refusing to believe it. She turned to my mother and smirked. “Mum, you want to do the honours?” Mum looked between two of us unsure but in the end, she sighed and walked up to us. “I'm sorry you had to find out this way Shirley but Amelia is my daughter.” My eyes widened and I coughed. “What are you saying?” “It's English Dumbo. You are just the adopted one and I had to pretend to be just your best friend so I didn't miss out on a donor for my failing kidneys.” She summarized and I staggered backwards. My ears began ringing badly and tears pricked the back of my eyes but I refused to give in. “So…let me guess, you all put on a good show so I'd willing donate my kidneys to you when the time came.” Amelia clapped her hands with a smirk. “Bingo! See? Now you're getting it.” I turned to look at Felix, my vision blurr
Shirley's POV I snapped out of my thoughts and pulled away just as the driver walked up to me. He frowned down at the little boy and pulled him away. “I apologise Miss but he must have confused you with someone else. He does this a lot so pay him no mind.” The little boy in question struggled against him and kept stretching to touch me. I sighed and leaned down, picking him up in my arms. Immediately his cries and protest stopped. “I'll just stay with him until he falls asleep.” The driver opened his mouth to argue but I shook my head. “If that's okay, of course,” I added as he struggled within himself. He gave me a curt nod and I smiled. “Could I get some dry clothes?” He sighed and nodded, motioning for me to continue walking. I adjusted the boy's head on my chest and started walking up the stairs again. Once we reached the top stairway, the little boy raised his head and pointed at a door. “That's your room mummy!” He yelled excitedly and started bouncing in my arms. I
Shirley's POV He chuckled, the sound both mocking and intimidating. “You won't,” I blinked. “Excuse me?” He cleared his throat. “You won't refuse because deep down you know you need my protection.” He stood up from the table and walked back to his seat. “You're all alone now. Your family and everyone you ever cared about betrayed you. Your whole life is a lie and you are angry. I can help you get revenge against them.” I sucked in a breath, his words opening up the wounds that were beginning to heal. And he was right, I was alone and didn't have anyone. “You can think about it but you don't have time. I do always get what I want and seeing as my little boy is convinced you're his mother, I will make sure it stays that way.” I shivered and swallowed. “I need to go and prepare for my day..” I whispered as I staggered to my feet. “You're attending Yvonne Steel's birthday party.” He announced and I whipped around in shock. Had he been stalking me or something? “Adam will take you
Third Person's POV Shirley felt like she was hallucinating or suffering from a hearing problem. “Uncle Jackson?” Felix muttered as he let go of my hand. “What are you doing here?” Jackson ignores him and turned to the woman who was standing there, looking utterly confused. “Darling would you like to retouch your makeup in the car?” Shirley stammered. “I…there's…sure.” She eventually gave in and allowed him lead her to the car. Amelia pinched Felix's hand and glared at Shirley's back, envy trimming in her eyes. “How does she even know him? Why would he want someone as plain as her?” Felix was too stunned to pick up on the jealousy in her voice. “I don't know. What is he even doing here?” He turned to ask his grandmother but found that she had walked off. He sighed and patted Amelia's arm. “I'm going inside. Are you coming?” Amelia bit her lip and stared at the luxury car parked in the driveway. She smirked as an evil plan formed in her mind. “I'll join you,” Felix nodded and
Shirley’s povThe next morning. I woke up very early in the morning and sat up on the bed while yawning with my hand covering my mouth. I suddenly had a flashback to what happened last night. My heart started beating faster than normal then I placed my hand on my chest. “I can’t believe he actually did that yesterday.” I muttered and placed my hand on my head feeling conflicted. The more I tried not to think about it the more it lingered in my mind. I heaved a sigh of worry, there were so many things to consider, which is why I was leaving more in accepting then rejecting it. Seeing how arrogant Amelia has become because she succeeded in getting Felix I thought life would be very difficult for me if I don’t accept him, they’re going to keep rubbing it in my face that they were able to hurt me. But considering what he does, Jackson is a dangerous Mafia, my life could be in danger living with him. I was getting frustrated and tired thinking about everything, I fell back on the bed
Third person povJackson was pissed to hear the kind of question Felix asked him. He turned to look at Felix and smirked. “So I look like a child that doesn’t know what he’s doing?” Jackson asked. His tone was so scary that even Shirley shivered a little. Felix quickly turned his straight face into a smile. “Uncle, I didn’t mean it that way, I was only wondering why you decided to rush the proposal, you don’t even know the kind of woman she is.” Shirley was fuming while listening to what Felix was saying to his uncle, she knew Jackson isn’t the type to be easily manipulated but words like that can put a seed of doubt in his mind, the only good thing is that the marriage isn’t real. “Felix can you stop!” Shirley yelled at the top of her voice, getting the immediate attention of everyone. Amelia smirked sheepishly the moment she heard Shirley. “Are you about to show everyone the real you?” Amelia asked. “What? Haven’t you two done enough, you are married now, can you stay out of my
Shirley’s povI still can’t wrap my head around the reality that I would be getting married to Jackson, so many things were going on at the same time and there’s Dylan too, whom I need to consider before doing anything because of how much he likes me. I patted his head softly as he was laying beside me because he refused to sleep in his room last night. He wanted to spend time with me here. Today is the wedding and I am not even sure I’m taking the right step. I gently got up from the bed and headed out of the room, by the time I got to the sitting room, it almost looked like a completely different place. How were they able to set up immediately? The sitting room was used as the hall for the wedding tonight. Yvonne wants it to be just a small gathering of people. She didn’t want a crowd so she chose to use the house and there’s no one that can object to her decision. I rushed back to my room, it’s really happening. I’m really getting married today. I rushed into the bathroom to
Shirley povBefore I could ask him any question he placed his lips on mine, I couldn’t resist it because it’s not just what the crowd wants, it’s also what I want. We kissed passionately and almost forgot it’s our wedding. “This can continue in the room later.” The wedding host announced and there was laughter from the crowd as we both stopped. I was so shy that I couldn’t look him in the eyes after the hot kiss we shared. I raised my head shyly to look at the crowd and they were still smiling and having little side talks. The only person that her eyes were fixed towards my direction was none other than my sister, or rather my parents' biological daughter. Our eyes met and she smirked before looking away while shaking her glass of wine in a stirring form. I knew she wasn’t happy for me and good thing she’s not pretending to be. It was time to greet the guests. It was supposed to be a little wedding but they know too many people so the supposed little wedding was almost more crowded
Shirley povAfter the doctor left everyone had already gone to their rooms. We would be staying with Yvonne for a few days until things get a little better and we trace the kidnappers. Dylan and I were sharing a room. I could not sleep as I was worried about him. Looking at him now makes me pity him a lot. I wonder what the childhood trauma could be. The reality that a very little boy like him had already gone through a trauma was even more pitiful.I stood up from the bed and headed inside the toilet, when I was done using the toilet I stepped out and went back to bed. Even after trying several times I still could not fall asleep. While I was struggling to fall asleep Dylan woke up. “Oh my goodness, Dylan are you okay?” I asked him and he only looked at me without saying anything, this was the time reality hit me then I realized what the doctor said was true Dylan would not be able to speak until he's able to overcome the trauma. “Are you hungry?” I asked him and he nodded his he
Shirley povI was shocked to hear what Felix said to me then I pushed him away, why does he think in his wildest dream that isn’t me, what makes him so sure of that mentality. I have tried so many times to make him know that I have a mind of my own and he’s not going to make me his woman because he lost his chances when he had them. “Get your filthy hands off me, can’t you get it that I don’t love you anymore? Why do you keep acting this way for crying out loud, you are beginning to make me Uncomfortable in a very bad way. Felix let go of my hands just like I pleaded. We both stood outside, with different things on our mind. He probably had our relationship issues on his mind while I had something else on my mind, there’s no way we are going through this when he clearly let go of my hand. “What is going on here?” Amelia came and broke the beautiful silence as we were trying to cheat our heads. When Felix heard what she said. He walked back into the house without saying anything an
Shirley povI was relieved to see Jackson’s men, apparently they’ve been strategizing and spreading around so that they can have a smooth operation. Seeing Jackson in his element made me totally into him, I could finally see the thing they were talking about when they called him the ruthless Mafia. After a lot of shooting, he walked out of the building with Dylan. “Leave with him immediately.” Jackson ordered.“What about you?” I asked Jackson, I didn’t want to go without him because the place is very dangerous. “Just go, I’ll be fine.” Jackson yelled, I didn’t have any other choice but to leave. One of his men followed and he took the car and we drove out of the environment. While we were driving back to the house, I was scared. I was wondering what would happen to Jackson now. After a long ride we arrived at the house, I walked inside with Dylan immediately.“Thank goodness.” Yvonne said as she was running down the stairs, Dylan was too weak to say anything, he just kept staring
Writer's povAmelia was in the sitting room while Yvonne was pacing around uncomfortably; she was wondering why Shirley and Jackson were yet to give her updates on their search for Dylan.Amelia couldn't care less about what happens to the little boy because she did not have any bond with him and at the same time she thought it would save them the stress of raising such a child.“Why am I yet to get any information from them?” Yvonne asks herself as she couldn't keep calm. She turned to look at Amelia who seemed unconcerned about the present occurrence. At first she thought Amelia was just a very spoilt child but seeing her level of lack of emotion she realized that Amelia was not just spoiled but also a wicked person.Yvonne was scared of calling because Jackson sternly warned her not to call him no matter what the condition might be because of where he is. She just wants them all to be safe. Felix got back to the house and sat on the coach tiredly. Amelia did not bother saying any
Shirley povI increased the car speed as I was driving back to the house. I know that it has always been their plan to see me hurt but I was not willing to let them have their way.I drove as fast as I could without checking if I would be pursued by the police. While driving so many thoughts kept crossing my mind. I was wondering what kind of trouble Jackson would be in for him to call me the way he did. Jackson is not the type to confide in anyone like that so I was scared at the same time.Dylan has been kidnapped for more than three days and there's been no hope of finding him, then all of a sudden Jackson has a lead on where he could be, but I don't know what the problem is this time around. Finally after a very long drive I arrived at the location that Jackson sent to me. I looked around the environment very well and it looked like an abandoned environment. I was wondering, what could be going on here? There were no houses around, nobody , not even a soul was outside. Though I
Writer’s povafter Dylan abs Shirley had the most fun they both returned to the house with Lisa too. Lisa was the happiest because she got to do a lot of things and she was grateful that Shirley took her with them. She went back to her room the moment they got back to her house and fell on the bed tiredly. Lisa realized that Shirley was the total opposite of what she was told before taking the job of broke his care giver. She almost did not take the job because she was scared after listening to so many people, but at the he’d of the day she followed her heart which led to to the house, and here she is now working as the care giver witch is the absolute best mistake of her life.Lisa was very happy that she could do something for herself, she was happy that Shirley was being so nice to her, the best home escape job was what she found.********Shirley was in her room as she recalled all that they did today, she found herself smiling as she was thinking about her cute little boy, she re
Shirley povMy heart sank the moment I heard her yell at me the way she did. It was another wake up call to remind me that they were not everytime I try to put the past behind me they always have a way of reminding me that it’s not the past yet. Because they still don’t see me as family.I stood outside the room with Yvonne by my side. After waiting for some minutes the doctor arrived. “Nothing is going to happen to you my love.” Sharon said to Amelia because she was bleeding too much. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for myself as I watched the beautiful mother and daughter session that I have never had.The doctor was able to stop the bleeding and then he gave her something to take so that she can be calm.It was then Felix walked upstairs. He stood outside the room then Sharon rushed to where he was standing and started hitting him.You beast! Are you trying to get my daughter killed?” She asked while she was hitting him. Felix was gentleman enough to stand there without doing anythi
Writer’s povAmelia was worried sick that she didn’t know she was being so disrespectful towards Yvonne, she was just trying to voice her displeasure in the way Felix was making her feel but she ended up voicing it out the wrong way.“I’m sorry Grandma.” Amelia apologized and sat on the couch with her hand on her head tiredly. She was about to start crying because the whole Felix thing was driving her crazy already.“Amelia, look at me, if you keep going this way, you'll end up like me.” Amelia was confused When she heard what Yvonne said to her.“What are you trying to say?” Amelia asked curiously. She was wondering what the story was.“Few years ago I was married to Jackson’s dad and just like you I started getting insecure. My Insecurities was getting the best of me and I was slowly losing my mind, I pushed everyone away from me and eventually he left me because I was too insecure, he yelled about my insecurities everyday and talked about how it was ruining our relationship but I
Writer's povJackson and Felix conversation kept going south because Felix kept thinking about Jackson sayong words like he was being suspicious of him which made Jackson wonder why Felix was thinking such say about him.“What about a drink, maybe then we can clear this crazy misunderstanding we are having.” Jackson said to him, when he noticed they were not going anywhere with the misunderstanding they kept having.“Fine.” Felix said almost om whisper immediately. It seemed like he was suddenly feeling sleepy so he ended the call and dropped the phone on your bed. “What an asshole, you're yet to send the worst of it.” Felix said angrily as soon as he dropped the phone on this bed, he looked at Amelia as she was still sleeping, she was sleeping so peacefully which was very unusual of her, normally she would be up watching him and trying to know where he's going.Felix already had everything set up on how he was going to frame Shirley of being an infidel, he knew that would be the easi
