Shirley's POV
I snapped out of my thoughts and pulled away just as the driver walked up to me. He frowned down at the little boy and pulled him away. “I apologise Miss but he must have confused you with someone else. He does this a lot so pay him no mind.” The little boy in question struggled against him and kept stretching to touch me. I sighed and leaned down, picking him up in my arms. Immediately his cries and protest stopped. “I'll just stay with him until he falls asleep.” The driver opened his mouth to argue but I shook my head. “If that's okay, of course,” I added as he struggled within himself. He gave me a curt nod and I smiled. “Could I get some dry clothes?” He sighed and nodded, motioning for me to continue walking. I adjusted the boy's head on my chest and started walking up the stairs again. Once we reached the top stairway, the little boy raised his head and pointed at a door. “That's your room mummy!” He yelled excitedly and started bouncing in my arms. I grunted in pain and realized that was the same arm where the IV had been for only a few hours ago. However I didn't make a fuss not wanting to scare the boy. “Is that the room you were going to take me to?” I asked the driver. He shook his head. “No one is allowed to go in there.” I stared at the little boy in my arms but he was fast asleep. I smiled and turned back to the driver. “Mr…” “Call me Adam.” I nodded. “Mr Adam, please show me to my room.” He led the way and I followed, my head swirling with different questions. Why would he call me mummy? I had never seen this boy before or been to this house. I'm sure I'd remember if I had seen such opulence and elegance before. And the little boy had such a cute face, it'd be hard to forget meeting him. “Let me take him back to his room.” He stretched his hand out to take the child but I hesitated. For some strange reason, I didn't want to let go of the little guy which was absurd since he wasn't mine. Eventually, I handed him over and walked into the room. “I'll send a tray of food for you later and once my boss is back, I'll inform you.” “Thank you,” I whispered and shut the door behind me. **** “The boss would like to see you now,” Adam said once I opened the door. I yawned and rubbed my drowsy eyes. “Now?” He motioned to the stairs and I followed knowing fully well that anything could happen but also aware that this man had saved my life whoever he was. We walked down the stairs and through an empty hallway, the silence of the house greeting us. “That's his office,” he whispered and took a step back signaling that I would be going alone. I gulped and walked forward. “Come in,” I heard from inside the room and sighed. Here goes nothing. Taking a step forward, I opened the door and walked in. “Come in Miss Anderson.” I gasped at the mention of my name. How did he know my name? “Don't be afraid,” I swallowed and walked in, approaching the table in the room consciously. “Please sit. I'm sure you have a lot of questions.” I nodded and leaned forward after sitting down. There was no lighting in the room save for the lamp on the table. “I hope the room you were given is to your liking.” I nodded, still unable to speak. “Feel free to ask me any questions you might have. My name is Jackson, Jackson Storm.” My eyes widened. “Stor–m?” I stammered as I recalled an instance where I had heard the name. He laughed at my reaction and leaned back in his seat. “I know you must have heard a lot about that name.” “You're…” I gulped and cleared my throat. “You're the mafia lord.” He nodded, not bothering to hide his identity. “What do you want with me?” He didn't respond immediately. “Adam told me you met my son tonight.” He said and I nodded wondering what that had to do with anything. “I believe he called you his mummy,” I flushed and looked away. “It's okay. Actually he called you his mother because you look so much like my late wife.” My ears began ringing. What did he mean by that? He stood up and walked around the table. I moved back, the chair's legs scratching the tiles noisessly. “You don't have to be afraid of me.” he held up his hands. “I'm not going to hurt you. I just need your help and in return you can ask anything of me.” I closed my eyes and then opened them. This wasn't a dream. He reached back towards his seat and pulled out a drawer. He brought out a photo frame and handed it to me. “That's my son's mother,” I almost dropped the frame in shock. “That's impossible,” I muttered, my eyes wide in shock. How could we look so alike? “I was surprised as well when I almost ran you off the road the other day.” He let out a humorous chuckle. “It seemed like I was staring at a ghost.” I looked up at him and my breath caught in my throat when I saw the raw pain in his eyes. It was no wonder he kept a shrine for her in this house. It was because of how much he loved her. That still didn't explain why I was in his house. “What do you want from me?” He leaned back again and pulled out something from the drawer again. “What is this?” I stared at the stapled papers in front of me. “It's a simple contract.” He leaned down on the table and looked at me. “All you need to do is marry me for a period of one year and take care of my son. In return, you can ask for anything you want.” “And if I refuse?” I asked, my heart beating wildly in my chest.Shirley's POV He chuckled, the sound both mocking and intimidating. “You won't,” I blinked. “Excuse me?” He cleared his throat. “You won't refuse because deep down you know you need my protection.” He stood up from the table and walked back to his seat. “You're all alone now. Your family and everyone you ever cared about betrayed you. Your whole life is a lie and you are angry. I can help you get revenge against them.” I sucked in a breath, his words opening up the wounds that were beginning to heal. And he was right, I was alone and didn't have anyone. “You can think about it but you don't have time. I do always get what I want and seeing as my little boy is convinced you're his mother, I will make sure it stays that way.” I shivered and swallowed. “I need to go and prepare for my day..” I whispered as I staggered to my feet. “You're attending Yvonne Steel's birthday party.” He announced and I whipped around in shock. Had he been stalking me or something? “Adam will take you
Third Person's POV Shirley felt like she was hallucinating or suffering from a hearing problem. “Uncle Jackson?” Felix muttered as he let go of my hand. “What are you doing here?” Jackson ignores him and turned to the woman who was standing there, looking utterly confused. “Darling would you like to retouch your makeup in the car?” Shirley stammered. “I…there's…sure.” She eventually gave in and allowed him lead her to the car. Amelia pinched Felix's hand and glared at Shirley's back, envy trimming in her eyes. “How does she even know him? Why would he want someone as plain as her?” Felix was too stunned to pick up on the jealousy in her voice. “I don't know. What is he even doing here?” He turned to ask his grandmother but found that she had walked off. He sighed and patted Amelia's arm. “I'm going inside. Are you coming?” Amelia bit her lip and stared at the luxury car parked in the driveway. She smirked as an evil plan formed in her mind. “I'll join you,” Felix nodded and
Shirley’s povThe next morning. I woke up very early in the morning and sat up on the bed while yawning with my hand covering my mouth. I suddenly had a flashback to what happened last night. My heart started beating faster than normal then I placed my hand on my chest. “I can’t believe he actually did that yesterday.” I muttered and placed my hand on my head feeling conflicted. The more I tried not to think about it the more it lingered in my mind. I heaved a sigh of worry, there were so many things to consider, which is why I was leaving more in accepting then rejecting it. Seeing how arrogant Amelia has become because she succeeded in getting Felix I thought life would be very difficult for me if I don’t accept him, they’re going to keep rubbing it in my face that they were able to hurt me. But considering what he does, Jackson is a dangerous Mafia, my life could be in danger living with him. I was getting frustrated and tired thinking about everything, I fell back on the bed
Third person povJackson was pissed to hear the kind of question Felix asked him. He turned to look at Felix and smirked. “So I look like a child that doesn’t know what he’s doing?” Jackson asked. His tone was so scary that even Shirley shivered a little. Felix quickly turned his straight face into a smile. “Uncle, I didn’t mean it that way, I was only wondering why you decided to rush the proposal, you don’t even know the kind of woman she is.” Shirley was fuming while listening to what Felix was saying to his uncle, she knew Jackson isn’t the type to be easily manipulated but words like that can put a seed of doubt in his mind, the only good thing is that the marriage isn’t real. “Felix can you stop!” Shirley yelled at the top of her voice, getting the immediate attention of everyone. Amelia smirked sheepishly the moment she heard Shirley. “Are you about to show everyone the real you?” Amelia asked. “What? Haven’t you two done enough, you are married now, can you stay out of my
Shirley’s povI still can’t wrap my head around the reality that I would be getting married to Jackson, so many things were going on at the same time and there’s Dylan too, whom I need to consider before doing anything because of how much he likes me. I patted his head softly as he was laying beside me because he refused to sleep in his room last night. He wanted to spend time with me here. Today is the wedding and I am not even sure I’m taking the right step. I gently got up from the bed and headed out of the room, by the time I got to the sitting room, it almost looked like a completely different place. How were they able to set up immediately? The sitting room was used as the hall for the wedding tonight. Yvonne wants it to be just a small gathering of people. She didn’t want a crowd so she chose to use the house and there’s no one that can object to her decision. I rushed back to my room, it’s really happening. I’m really getting married today. I rushed into the bathroom to
Shirley povBefore I could ask him any question he placed his lips on mine, I couldn’t resist it because it’s not just what the crowd wants, it’s also what I want. We kissed passionately and almost forgot it’s our wedding. “This can continue in the room later.” The wedding host announced and there was laughter from the crowd as we both stopped. I was so shy that I couldn’t look him in the eyes after the hot kiss we shared. I raised my head shyly to look at the crowd and they were still smiling and having little side talks. The only person that her eyes were fixed towards my direction was none other than my sister, or rather my parents' biological daughter. Our eyes met and she smirked before looking away while shaking her glass of wine in a stirring form. I knew she wasn’t happy for me and good thing she’s not pretending to be. It was time to greet the guests. It was supposed to be a little wedding but they know too many people so the supposed little wedding was almost more crowded
Shirley povI was still very mad at him for leaving me like that at the party after he promised he was going to protect me from them no matter what the problem might be. I had to face my sister and my mom that way and also the other family members that are not in support of us being together. When I got to the room I sat on the bed tiredly, I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t want to be there with them. I knew very well that they are not genuinely happy for me. While I was sitting alone in the room someone walked in. “Mom, are you not happy?” Dylan asked the moment he walked into the room. I had to put on a fake smile the moment he asked the question.“What are you talking about?” I asked, pretending not to understand what he was talking about. Dylan sat beside me and rested his head on my shoulder. Judging from the way he was behaving I could already tell that my actions were too obvious and his father might think i am not doing my own part of the bargain properly.“You know how
Shirley's POV “Water,” I croaked as I opened my eyes from the annoying beeping sounds coming from the machines around me. I knew I was in a hospital. Why? I didn't know but I hoped someone would tell me soon. My whole body hurt like hell and my throat was dry. “Water,” I grunted and coughed in a bid to clear my throat but it didn't work. It felt like something was stuck there and wasn't coming out. The door opened and I leaned up to see my mother, Sharon walking in. “Oh dear, you're awake!” She rushed towards me and smiled. “How are you feeling?”“I need water Mum,” I groaned and she quickly poured me a glass from the jug sitting on the nightstand. “Hold on, let me help you sit up.” She placed one hand behind my head and the other was to support me as I struggled to sit up. “There you go,” I thanked her as I brought the glass to my lips and drank. “I'm sore all over. What happened?” She placed the glass on the nightstand and took a seat by the edge of the bed. “You don't remem

Shirley's POV “You're just a spare tire,” Amelia said. Her usually cool voice was now bitter as her eyes flashed with hatred. “What are you talking about?” I choked, refusing to believe it. She turned to my mother and smirked. “Mum, you want to do the honours?” Mum looked between two of us unsure but in the end, she sighed and walked up to us. “I'm sorry you had to find out this way Shirley but Amelia is my daughter.” My eyes widened and I coughed. “What are you saying?” “It's English Dumbo. You are just the adopted one and I had to pretend to be just your best friend so I didn't miss out on a donor for my failing kidneys.” She summarized and I staggered backwards. My ears began ringing badly and tears pricked the back of my eyes but I refused to give in. “So…let me guess, you all put on a good show so I'd willing donate my kidneys to you when the time came.” Amelia clapped her hands with a smirk. “Bingo! See? Now you're getting it.” I turned to look at Felix, my vision blurr
