Third Person's POV
Shirley felt like she was hallucinating or suffering from a hearing problem. “Uncle Jackson?” Felix muttered as he let go of my hand. “What are you doing here?” Jackson ignores him and turned to the woman who was standing there, looking utterly confused. “Darling would you like to retouch your makeup in the car?” Shirley stammered. “I…there's…sure.” She eventually gave in and allowed him lead her to the car. Amelia pinched Felix's hand and glared at Shirley's back, envy trimming in her eyes. “How does she even know him? Why would he want someone as plain as her?” Felix was too stunned to pick up on the jealousy in her voice. “I don't know. What is he even doing here?” He turned to ask his grandmother but found that she had walked off. He sighed and patted Amelia's arm. “I'm going inside. Are you coming?” Amelia bit her lip and stared at the luxury car parked in the driveway. She smirked as an evil plan formed in her mind. “I'll join you,” Felix nodded and walked off absent-minded. Amelia waited until he had walked off before she ran after the couple. She couldn't understand why everyone wanted plain Jane Shirley. Even her parents and Felix had forgotten it was all a plan and had fallen for her. She knocked on the window and waited for an answer. Soon enough the window was rolled down and she frowned when she came face to face with Adam. “Who are you?” She asked rudely. Adam raised an eyebrow and sized her up. “Who are you?” “I'm looking for my sister, Shirley and Mr. Jackson. They came this way.” Adam smiled politely. “They went to the bathroom,” “Together?” Amelia shrieked and then composed herself. She coughed and smiled sweetly. “Marvelous. That's quite alright,” She turned and headed for the hall. When she was close to the door however, she took a detour and started making her way to the bathrooms. She couldn't let Shirley take everything away from her including her parents' love and the love of her husband and family. And if Shirley wasn't going to make herself scarce then she'd have to do it for her. If Shirley was dead then she'd have all the attention once again. Clear on what her plan was, she tiptoed down the long hallway unaware that Adam who was in the car before was now tailing her. **** Shirley's POV I stood in the bathroom stall in my underwear and admired the new dress Jackson had picked out for me wondering how he had gotten my perfect size. My old dress had been crumpled because of her the struggle with Amelia but it wasn't so badly ruined that I couldn't wear it. I didn't understand why Jackson insisted i wore this one. Although thinking about it, he was trying to stake his claim on me because there was no other reasonable explanation for his behaviour. And how was he related to the Steels? Surely if Felix had an uncle I would have heard of it a long time ago. And why did he have a different name? Also, why was he part of such a dangerous organisation? I had so many questions and it was sad that I might never get the answers. I sighed and picked up the dress to slide it on when the door of the bathroom opened. I frowned when I saw Amelia standing there with her arms crossed. “What do you want?” Amelia rolled her eyes and walked towards the mirror. “Don't flatter yourself Shirley, I'm not here for you.” I watched her as she adjusted her dress and then retouched her makeup. I suddenly felt uncomfortable being in the same space as her which was ironic considering we had taken showers together in the past. “I'm curious,” Amelia finally spoke and I suffered. “How do you know Jackson Storm? From what I hear, he's a dangerous man.” I shrugged. “It's none of your business,” Amelia nodded. “Maybe but the fact that he's related to my new family makes it my business. See, Felix is related to Jackson and so is Grandma Yvonne and so I can't allow just anyone to be by his side.” I scrunched my nose. “How does that concern you? Jackson is a grown man,” Amelia's expression turned ugly. “He only wants you because he doesn't know what type of person you are but be happy to tell him.” “Go ahead then. Be sure to tell him how you and my entire family lied and deceived me for years.” I retorted and Amelia's smug expression slipped. “I guess you had no plans for exposing your side of the family.” I snickered. “Now if you'll excuse me, I have to change.” As soon as I turned my back to her, Amelia made her move. She pulled me back by my hair. “Just die already! Nobody wants you and Jackson is only using you,” I struggled against her and coughed as one of Amelia's hands squeezed my throat. “Let go of me,” “Jackson could never want someone like you anyway, you're too ordinary. You're just a means to an end.” Amelia continued berating me as she squeezed my neck. “Amelia, I c—an't bre—the” I wheezed, slapping her hand but her grip only tightened. “Just die and disappear from our lives. You're nothing more than a pest,” “A—me..” I choked and fought. “I—” “Stop fighting me and just die already–” the rest of her words died as she was ripped away from me. “Let me go! How dare you touch me?!” I coughed violently several times and collapsed to my knees. “Let go off me!” Amelia screamed, fighting against whoever had saved me while I continued trying to recover. If the person had showed up a little later then I probably wouldn't have made it out of here alive. “Take her away from here Adam,” Jackson's familiar voice reached my ears as he walked into the room. “deliver her to her husband and warn him to keep her on a leash or I'll put her down.” I shivered at the threat in his words and looked up to see Adam dragging Amelia out of the bathroom. “I seem to be saving you a lot lately,” Jackson said as he stretched out his hand to me. “Do you still think you don't need my protection, Miss Anderson?” I shook my head trying to form the words. “So what's it going to be? If you disagree and say you don't need my protection then I could ask Adam to bring your sister back inside so you guys can continue whatever that was.” I coughed and held my hand up. He pulled me up and I fell into his arms. “Will you marry me, Miss Anderson?”Shirley’s povThe next morning. I woke up very early in the morning and sat up on the bed while yawning with my hand covering my mouth. I suddenly had a flashback to what happened last night. My heart started beating faster than normal then I placed my hand on my chest. “I can’t believe he actually did that yesterday.” I muttered and placed my hand on my head feeling conflicted. The more I tried not to think about it the more it lingered in my mind. I heaved a sigh of worry, there were so many things to consider, which is why I was leaving more in accepting then rejecting it. Seeing how arrogant Amelia has become because she succeeded in getting Felix I thought life would be very difficult for me if I don’t accept him, they’re going to keep rubbing it in my face that they were able to hurt me. But considering what he does, Jackson is a dangerous Mafia, my life could be in danger living with him. I was getting frustrated and tired thinking about everything, I fell back on the bed
Third person povJackson was pissed to hear the kind of question Felix asked him. He turned to look at Felix and smirked. “So I look like a child that doesn’t know what he’s doing?” Jackson asked. His tone was so scary that even Shirley shivered a little. Felix quickly turned his straight face into a smile. “Uncle, I didn’t mean it that way, I was only wondering why you decided to rush the proposal, you don’t even know the kind of woman she is.” Shirley was fuming while listening to what Felix was saying to his uncle, she knew Jackson isn’t the type to be easily manipulated but words like that can put a seed of doubt in his mind, the only good thing is that the marriage isn’t real. “Felix can you stop!” Shirley yelled at the top of her voice, getting the immediate attention of everyone. Amelia smirked sheepishly the moment she heard Shirley. “Are you about to show everyone the real you?” Amelia asked. “What? Haven’t you two done enough, you are married now, can you stay out of my
Shirley’s povI still can’t wrap my head around the reality that I would be getting married to Jackson, so many things were going on at the same time and there’s Dylan too, whom I need to consider before doing anything because of how much he likes me. I patted his head softly as he was laying beside me because he refused to sleep in his room last night. He wanted to spend time with me here. Today is the wedding and I am not even sure I’m taking the right step. I gently got up from the bed and headed out of the room, by the time I got to the sitting room, it almost looked like a completely different place. How were they able to set up immediately? The sitting room was used as the hall for the wedding tonight. Yvonne wants it to be just a small gathering of people. She didn’t want a crowd so she chose to use the house and there’s no one that can object to her decision. I rushed back to my room, it’s really happening. I’m really getting married today. I rushed into the bathroom to
Shirley povBefore I could ask him any question he placed his lips on mine, I couldn’t resist it because it’s not just what the crowd wants, it’s also what I want. We kissed passionately and almost forgot it’s our wedding. “This can continue in the room later.” The wedding host announced and there was laughter from the crowd as we both stopped. I was so shy that I couldn’t look him in the eyes after the hot kiss we shared. I raised my head shyly to look at the crowd and they were still smiling and having little side talks. The only person that her eyes were fixed towards my direction was none other than my sister, or rather my parents' biological daughter. Our eyes met and she smirked before looking away while shaking her glass of wine in a stirring form. I knew she wasn’t happy for me and good thing she’s not pretending to be. It was time to greet the guests. It was supposed to be a little wedding but they know too many people so the supposed little wedding was almost more crowded
Shirley povI was still very mad at him for leaving me like that at the party after he promised he was going to protect me from them no matter what the problem might be. I had to face my sister and my mom that way and also the other family members that are not in support of us being together. When I got to the room I sat on the bed tiredly, I didn’t know what to do and I didn’t want to be there with them. I knew very well that they are not genuinely happy for me. While I was sitting alone in the room someone walked in. “Mom, are you not happy?” Dylan asked the moment he walked into the room. I had to put on a fake smile the moment he asked the question.“What are you talking about?” I asked, pretending not to understand what he was talking about. Dylan sat beside me and rested his head on my shoulder. Judging from the way he was behaving I could already tell that my actions were too obvious and his father might think i am not doing my own part of the bargain properly.“You know how
Writer’s pov After the party everyone had already gone back to their houses. Shirley was not over what happened earlier at the house seeing her precious aunt being just like her mom and dad got her very disappointed. She somehow knew what the situation would be. She was only in denial because at the end of the day they are families.“I just want to wake up from this horrible nightmare.” Shirley muttered to herself as she laid on the bed. The moment she laid on her bed Jackson walked into the room. “What are you doing here?” Shirley asked Jackson, still a little too startled to get her composure.“Why would you even ask me such a question?” Jackson asked as he was removing his shirt. Shirley covered her eyes when she saw him shirtless. “Can you leave already!” She asked at the top of her voice. Jackson was puzzled by her reaction because he was not expecting her to react the way she was reacting.“What are you talking about?” Jackson asked her as he was wondering why she was behaving
Shirley povThe next morning I woke up and he was gone. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Why is he gone so early in the morning? I stood up from the bed and headed out of the room so that I could walk down the stairs and get myself a bottle of water. While I was walking downstairs I sighted Amelia walking upstairs. I rolled my eyes displeased. “What a bad way to start my morning.” I muttered to myself and heaved a sigh. It's so uncomfortable living with someone you don’t like because why do I suddenly feel like I’m suffocating. “You really don’t know when to give up right?” I stopped on my tracks the moment I heard what she said. I turned back to look at her and smirked. “Are you really dumb or you are just pretending to be?” I asked angrily because I knew very well that I’m the one that’s supposed to be upset and not her. “You think because you are married to his uncle you have the right to speak to me just the way you like?” Amelia asked. I couldn’t hold in the laughter after hearing w
WRITER’S POV Shirley stepped out of the house without replying to Felix, she knew that he was only trying to piss her off, and say things that would ruin her night. Good thing they would be leaving tonight. I stepped into the car a little upset. I can’t believe he was buying the clothes because they were his ex-wife’s favorites, I was so stupid to think that he was actually getting them because they suit me very well. When I got to the venue I suddenly lost interest and wished I could take back time, then I would avoid going for the dinner. I swallowed the hurt I was feeling and headed inside. One of the receptionists rushed over to where I was standing and directed me to the room. She opened the VIP area and I was shocked to see that it was not a private dinner, instead it was a mini party, all his friends were present with their wife. I gently took a few steps to go join him at the front table. The moment he sighted me he walked up to me and held my hand as we both headed to the
Writer's pov“Amelia, stop creating a sin here. We are only trying to get to one understanding right now but you are making it turn to a different thing like we're having a misunderstanding here.”Amelia was pissed to hear what her mother said because she hates it whenever Sharon corrects her in the presence of Shirley she was so upset that it was written all over her place that she was mad.And after looking at all of them seated on the couch Amelia started laughing like a psycho Alicia was shocked including Sharon laughter wasn't expected because just now she was mad at them and all of a sudden she is laughing.“Amelia, stop it, what is your problem?” Sharon asked angrily. She was feeling embarrassed because of the way Amelia was laughing in the presence of Alicia and Shirley.“Is this why you called me here?” Sharon was confused. Amelia concluded that the reason why Sharon invited her was to embarrass her in the presence of a worst enemy even though it doesn't make sense this is th
Writer’s povFew hours ago When Shirley talked about meeting with Sharon and Alicia, Sharon thought it would be a better idea to also add Amelia because she knew the conversation Shirley was about to bring up would definitely have Amelia in it, so Amelia should be there to speak for herself which is why Sharon called her over too. “You don’t look pleased to see me,” Amelia said to Shirley with a fake smile on her face. Amelia was not pleased to meet Shirley at her parents house because Sharon didn’t tell her anything about meeting with Shirley. She only had to act like she was fine with it because she saw how upset Shirley was. She realized she could keep irritating Shirley until she finally left.Alicia joined us after taking the kids to their room, she also looked surprised to see Amelia in the house when Shirley earlier said it was just both of us she wanted to talk to. “Didn’t know you were going to invite Amelia.” Alicia said as she sat down. “Aunt you don’t look happy to see
Shirley povWhile I was driving out of the house, I kept wondering if I was making the best decision going over to see Alicia and Sharon so that I can explain to them that I’m not responsible for the divorce that Felix Is planning, I need Sharon to convince her daughter to stop blaming me because I don’t think I can be cool the next time she tries to accuse me like she always does. I heaved a sigh and increased my car speed. After a long ride I finally arrived at Sharon’s house. I was shocked to see Alicia standing outside, it looked like she was waiting for her while standing outside. I stepped out of the car and she was walking closer, I already decided to forgive her but that doesn’t mean I have gotten over the past, I just can’t get it off my mind that she is really my mom, it’s so hard to believe no matter how hard I try. “Thanks for calling me here, I’m so sorry.” Alicia said to me and hugged me. I gently stretched it and hugged her back. With time I will forgive her complete
Shirley povI couldn't stop worrying about Jackson even though I tried not to bother myself too much about it. I just couldn't help but worry because while he was eating he looked like he was in deep thoughts. “Are you okay?” I asked him worriedly. Jackson raised his head and looked at me with a smile on his face as he nodded his head. “I'm fine.” He said to me almost immediately. Even though he kept saying he's fine I just know that my instincts are never wrong. There is definitely something bothering him and I'm going to find out what it is. While I was still bothering about Jackson's mood and the way he was looking bothered I felt my phone vibration on the dining table and I picked it up immediately to see who the caller is, I wasn't pleased to see that it was Alicia calling I know she's trying to beg me for forgiveness again and there is no way that I'm ready to forgive her for abandoning me for so many years. I was about to ignore the call when I realized Jackson was looking
Shirley pov Even though Jackson tried to warn me about meeting with Amelia, I still felt like that's the best thing to do at this point because there is nothing I would say to her that will make her listen to me and understand that I have no hand in the whole divorce thing. The case was even more complicated than I had earlier imagined. I just wish Felix could end the whole divorce plan because that is the only way Amelia would feel better and maybe she would decide to stop making life difficult for me. “It's really hard to go back to my peaceful days.” I muttered to myself tiredly. While I was in deep thoughts I suddenly remembered that Jackson hasn't returned yet he said he will be stepping out on a short errand and it's getting late already and he's yet to return.I realized that I have been getting very worried about him of late. I really don't know why, I can't tell if I really am falling for him already. There's so much going on right now and falling in love can't be part of
Writer’s povShirley and Jackson were seated on the couch, Shirley still couldn’t get over what Amelia said to her, she kept asking herself questions as she was trying to know how it’s all her fault when she hasn’t done anything to Amelia, in reality Amelia was the one that hurt her, she’s supposed to be mad at Amelia and not the other way round. “Why is she doing this?” Shirley couldn’t wrap her head around the reason why Amelia is obsessed with her, she keeps saying everything is Shirley’s fault even though she’s always the one at fault. “First she got married to my boyfriend, as if that was not enough she tried to stop me from getting married to you and now that they’re about getting a divorce she still blames me? You know I don’t really get her, I have tried several times to understand her but she’s really making it hard for me. Why is she so obsessed with me? She practically blames me for everything.” Shirley yelled out her frustration and Jackson sat down quietly and listene
Shirley povI was shocked to hear what Sharon said. I know that for a while now Amelia and Felix were said to be doing well together, hearing this all of a sudden came as a shock.“What are you saying? A divorce all of a sudden?” I asked her because I was literally shocked, but I could tell from her sigh that she had other thoughts.“Felix wants a divorce.” I paused what I was doing as my heart started beating faster than normal, why does he want a divorce all of a sudden? What is he planning now? So many thoughts crossed my mind then I remembered what Jackson said to me a few minutes ago. He told me to promise him never to leave him and Dylan because he already knows about the divorce.“Why do you think I have a hand in this? Are you trying to blame me for your daughter being unable to keep her marriage?” I asked her angrily.“Shirley, I think you're overreacting right now.” Sharon said to me with a calm voice. “You think so? If you aren't trying to accuse me then why did you call t
Writer’s povWhile Jackson was driving back to the house he was worried, there was a lot on his mind, he was trying to focus on his driving but it seemed impossible. Why a divorce all of a sudden, things were going well already, why the sudden need to get a divorce? Jackson asked himself several questions while he was driving at full speed, he drove that way till he got back to the house. When he got home, he was so worried that he started looking around the house for Shirley, he checked her room but she was not there, he checked her workroom too but she was not there too, after searching everywhere for her, she was nowhere to be found in the house. He recollected when he was leaving she said something about not leaving the house today because she got lots of painting ideas, and now she’s not in the house?“Where could she be?” Andrew asked himself and brought out his phone, he tried calling several times but she was not picking his calls. “Pick your calls Shirley,” He said a little
Writer's povAmelia had to search for her phone so that she could talk to her mom and dad about what Felix is about to do.“Where is that stupid phone!” Amelia yelled after searching for a while and she was yet to find her phone, at this point she was frustrated and anything at all could piss her off and make her lose her cool. She was trying to act hard and not act like the divorce was getting to her really bad. While searching for a phone she suddenly paused and started crying. It was just too much at this point. She finally found her phone and decided to place a call across to her mom and dad. The moment she made the phone call her mom picked immediately.“Amelia I was just about to call you.” Sharon said to her, sounding excited to hear Amelia's voice and the fact that Amelia was the one that called first made her feel good because she thought Amelia was upset with her. “Mom, I am losing my mind right now.” Sharon sat up properly the moment she had Amelia's tone and she could te
