Trinity POVI stare across to the end of the hospital bed at the older woman. My throat tightens as she repeats her question. “When you got to the spot where you thought you heard the call for help, what happened?”I shake my head. “I didn’t get there. Somehow, on my way while running in the direction of our pack’s unique call, several werewolves jumped out and blocked me right after another call rang out, which had suddenly jumped to a short distance from me.”My heartbeat quickens as the scene plays out in my head. She leans over the foot of the bed and types something on her laptop, which sitting on the bed. She lets out a small sigh and presses her lips together. “Are you sure you had the distance correct?”From beside me, Lance grunts, “Didn’t she just tell you the call was much closer than before?” She lifts her gaze from her laptop and stares at him. “Your…”Lance’s hand balls into a fist, and a thick tension instantly builds within the room. She swallows and turns her
Lance POV Chad nudges my arm. “Come on, man. We need to go out and have some fun with our friends. It has been days since we have. They are waiting for us.” I snort and shake my head. “No. I don’t feel like it.” The clicks of the game controller and the sounds from the video game fill the room. Chad shakes his head. “This isn’t like you. You never turn down an offer to go out with friends, and you don’t stay this long back home. We are always out of this place, only coming back when we are ordered to. I don’t know how much longer I can hide from my family.” Tap. Tap. Tap. I tilt the control and, with my focus fixed on the TV, I grunt, “Then you go out and go back to our friend’s place. You don’t need to stay here.” Tap. Tap. Tap. He tilts his controller in the same direction as mine and huffs, “How can you say that? I’ve always stayed with you in whatever hotel or apartment you have. We don’t stay at our friends’ places. That is too much of a security risk.”
Trinity POV I stare out the hospital window at the black evening sky. Nothing is visible, and it seems to know what I’m thinking and feeling. Instead of dark cloud, it has given me a dark sky. I need to get out of here. They say it is safer here than any other place, but I don’t trust the Lycans to not do something to me. Even the older lady from the council today had a look in her eyes, which I couldn’t place. She had the usual sympathy and an air of professionalism, but there was something else. When she talked about me being the only female alpha in over a 100 years, something else lit up in her eyes. It doesn’t scare me, but it gives me an uneasy feeling which I don’t like. I wiggle my feet, but they only move a little. Ugh. I take a deep breath as the silence hammers down on me, and my thoughts go everywhere. After realizing my pack is responsible for me being like this, I can’t go back there. Well, not yet. In my current state, they would finish off the job a
Lance POVWhat in the world is she thinking? Why would she jeopardize her health like this? The other werewolves who come here for treatment don’t act like this. They are all very thankful to the Lycan staff and for being able to recover, which they wouldn’t have been able to do in their pack hospitals. Only the worst cases come here. The ones where the werewolf’s pack hospital has exhausted all they can do. The wolf will either die or permanently be crippled. The Lycan hospital has certain criteria for the werewolves to be admitted, so most don’t think of us until they have no other option. Even then, either their alpha or elder needs to suggest us to them before they think about coming here. Trinity’s father has sent other members from her pack here in the past. It has only happened a few times, but her pack members didn’t act like this. Why is she acting so differently? I stare down at her, wishing I could get all the answers, but I also know it would ruin whatever rela
Alpha Edward POV I step up to the podium and look out across the training field at my pack members. Curious eyes stare back at me. My gaze stops on my son and my new son-in-law at the front of the crowd. Neither of them is curious, but they both have questions swirling around in their eyes. My son-in-law fidgets with the seam of his pants. The Lycan King’s word rush back to me, along with the council woman I talked to yesterday. Someone from within my pack did this to my daughter. It was an inside job. Who would have the guts to do something like that to my daughter, the pack, and me? Then my eyes drift to my daughter’s best friend, standing beside my son-in-law. Why is she there? She should be back with her family. A council member from behind me clears her throat and grunts, “It is time.” I quickly clear my mind and focus on the matter at hand, the investigation. Using my alpha voice, I roar, “Quiet! The meeting has begun.” A hush falls over the crowd while they al
Trinity POVHe is my enemy! I’ve just figured it out. Pain shoots through my body, but I’m not going to give him the satisfaction of winning and seeing it.My vision blurs as my body nearly curls into a ball. Pain shoots through every part of me, including my fingers and toes. I even think my hair hurts. Gritting my teeth, I glare back at him. If I didn’t hurt so badly, I would slap his cocky grin right off his handsome face. How dare he do that to me? Becca clears her throat and softly mumbles, “I will go. I’ll be back tomorrow.”I nod while I keep my eyes locked on the demon. Lance motions his head towards the door. “You can go now. Remember, tomorrow, you aren’t to push her like you did today. No matter what she says.”Rage pulses through me. He can’t dictate what and how my therapy sessions go. Who does he think he is? He isn’t the King.My upper lip twitches as I shoot daggers into him with my eyes. Becca nods and scurries out of the room like her life depends on
Lance POVDid she just call me a healer? I must have heard her wrong.I stare down at her. Exhaustion has taken over, but somehow she still looks beautiful. Her long blonde hair shimmers, and her skin glows, but you can see how tired she is from the slight bags under her eyes. It doesn’t detract from her gorgeous face, though. I don’t know anyone who could pull that off but her. A soft snore floats into the air, and I hold back the chuckle bouncing around in me. She is not only beautiful, but she is also cute.My body suddenly freezes. What am I thinking? No. I don’t like werewolves. Ever. But as my eyes slide down her delicate cheek and along her soft chin, I know that isn’t true with her. She is different. I need to get out of here. Now. I gently lay her back down on the bed and make sure she is comfortable before I bolt out of the room. With a sense or urgency, my feet bolt through the halls and outside. Her sweet voice echoes in my head, making me want to turn aro
Trinity POV“Thank you, Becca. I’ve wanted to come back here since I saw it the last time. It is so much prettier in the day. It was amazing at night too, but I like this more.”The corners of my mouth curl upwards as my eyes eagerly roam over the area. The various floral scents from the different flowers swirl around us and fill my lungs. While the buzz of bees and the chirping of birds add an additional layer to the magnificent garden, which I wish I could have had that first night with Lance. Becca pushes the wheelchair further into the garden. “When did you get up here to see it before? I was told you haven’t left your room.”My gaze falls upon the various rose bushes at the back. My grin widens as I reply, “Lance brought me up here.”The wheelchair suddenly stops. “Did you say Lance brought you up here?”While still soaking in all the beautiful things and lost in a happy daze, I nod. “Yeah. He had come in when I was trying to walk and caught me as my legs gave out. H
