I didn’t expect that outburst from Maverick, and definitely not the sudden declaration of ownership. He looked so lost in whatever that he was doing, he wouldn’t even pay attention to me.

I wasn’t going to ask him to elaborate on what he’d just said, because that would make things so much more complicated. While Maverick was possessive when he wanted to get things done, he hadn’t told me he had any feelings for me, which was fine, because we didn’t need to complicate matters. Since he’d fought in a fight ring to protect me, he could think it gave him a free pass to own me.
