28 - Freedom

I stared at my neatly folded prison uniform lying on the bed. It was easier to pretend like I wasn’t leaving. That was the bitter truth I couldn’t run from.

We stayed in a bubble for the last few hours. Maverick pulled me on top of him and made me ride him, and while he pumped into me, he let me marvel at his face and hold him. I didn’t even realize when tears began streaming down my cheeks; it was only when he wiped them I realized I’d been crying.

He hadn’t said he loved me back and I guess it was okay because these were my feelings; he wasn’t obligated to return them. It would have been nice if he felt the same way, but when I was moved to his cell, he’d been clear that he only wanted a woman to warm his bed and that’s the only reason he was attracted to me.

So, I didn’t have a reason to feel so anxious and yet I felt like I couldn’t breathe.

He was going to sign the papers confirming that he’d successfully completed his duties as my protector, which also meant that Maverick
