“You are late,” Logan said. His voice had a savage edge to it.
The light in the living room turned on to reveal Logan sitting on one of the couches with his palm pressed together, glaring at her without blinking.
Emily's heart lurched. The tone of his voice made her spine stiffen.
“What are you doing brooding in the dark? Is your family not enough to keep you company?” Emily said, mocking him.
“Where have you been?” Logan demanded.
Emily walked into the living room, wondering why the house was quiet. She assumed Logan might have gone to work while Julie might have stepped out with Logan or, better yet, was still upstairs asleep. But she was shocked to see Julie in the dinning already having breakfast. She turned to go to her room, But Julie saw her.“Morning, Emily,” Julie greeted in a cool, tempered voice.Emily bit her lip and turned back slowly towards Julie. Pasting a smile on her face “morning, didn’t want to disturb your breakfast”“Oh, you are not
“I think we should build a bigger hotel than the one we have in the city. To commemorate this merger,” Mr. Greg, a staff member suggested.“That would be too risky a project to embark on. Why don’t we focus on what we have right now and improve on it?” Mr. Henderson said, his finger stroking his lips in thought.“I agree with him. Right now we should figure out a way to ensure that the hotel and the airline boost each…” Mr. Miller stopped mid-sentence, distracted by the commotion at the entrance of the boardroom. The door burst open, revealing Logan walking into the room while his bodyguard held the company security at bay. Both Mr. Henderson and Mr.
Emily’s eyebrow furrowed as she paced back and forth. She held her hands to her lips and prayed that everything would be alright with Julie.Just then, Logan joined her in the hall. Worry lined Logan's forehead.“Where is she?” Logan demanded“She is receiving treatment. Just waiting for the doctor to tell us if she is okay.”Logan nodded his head. "What happened?”“Well, she had an allergic reaction to the peanut cookie I gave her,” Emily answered.“Julie would never consciously eat peanut cookies because she knows she is allergic to peanuts.&r
“We will expect the table and chairs by Monday next week, but the clean-up crew will be here tomorrow so we can set up the mixer at the back when they are done. Hopefully, we will be done with fixing up this place before the opening.” Her best friend Jennifer said as she strikes things off the to-do-list. Propping her hands on her hips, she rolled her head between her shoulders to ease the tension.“Hmm… good. Don’t forget to send me the invoice.” Emily replied.Jennifer nodded, satisfied with the progress they were making. She looked at Emily and smiled. “I can’t believe your dad relented about you joining the family business and even gave you a shop.”“I know, right!” Emily said with a wide grin as she paced back and forth. Emily couldn’t believe that she was actually doing this. Especially when her father expected her to join the family hotel business after finishing her degree in business management. But she had always harbored a dream of opening her own bakery with Jennifer. Thi
Emily woke up. Glancing around. Her gaze rested on a metal IV stand with saline bags, and a woman in white trying to connect it to her arm.“Where am I?” Emily frowned.“Oh good, you are awake.” the woman smiled at Emily.“. leave us," a dark masculine voice said .Emily turned towards the voice. He had a hard and handsome face. The nurse turned to leave, but Emily instinctively held the lady's hand.“Don’t worry, you are in good hands,” the lady encouraged her. as she pried her hands from Emily and stepped out.Emily’s face turned white. She tried sitting up and felt pain shooting up her stomach.“Relax, if I wanted to do something vile. I would have done it the night I saved you. But I guess you don’t remember.”“Are you the one that helped me?” Emily said in a shaky voice. He looked at her intently before he answered. “You are lucky I stopped the car. Because I actually thought it was a ploy to rob me. People hardly venture that road at night.”She nodded her head and looked away.
“Ryan! What the hell are you doing?” Emily screamed, taking a step back.Ryan jumped off the bed, sweat glistening off his skin as he stared at her. The lady in bed with him covered her face.“What are you doing here? I told you to inform me whenever you are coming over to my place,” Ryan said, breathing hard.“Is that what you are concerned about, and who is the whore you are with?” She walked up to the bed and ripped the blanket off, and her eyes widened in shock. “Kayla…”Ryan ran his hand through his hair. The fact he was avoiding her gaze made it harder to deny what she was witnessing.“I wanted to tell you, Emily,” he said“How long has this been going on?” Emily asked.“We have been dating close to a year.” Ryan said.“Is a joke right?” She let out a humorless laugh. "I mean, none of this is real." “You weren’t meant to be here.” Kayla said. Drawing herself up to full height and thrusting her chin.“You have always been full of shit,” she said glaring at Kayla.“You are overre
Logan was in his study looking over some documents. When a knock at the door interrupted him.“Yes,” Logan beckoned.“Miss Emily Henderson is here to see you, sir.” Logan’s housekeeper said.“Let her in,” Logan said.Logan anticipated this meeting with Emily. When she called, he knew he had her where he wanted. But in his experience, he had to account for when things do not go as planned. When Emily was guided in. He noticed she was pale. Logan stood up and gestured towards the only couch in the study.“Miss Emily, have a seat. Looks like you would fall down at any moment. Do you want anything juice…water,”“No, I am fine,” Emily replied “To what do I owe this pleasure?” He asked, as they both sat down.“Don‘t act as if you don’t know why I am here,” she scoffed“I am not as self-absorbed as you think.” Logan tilted head to the side.“Why do you want my shares?” Emily asked, pressing her palms together firmly.“It is a promising company. Coupled with the fact that there would soon be
Emily bites her lips. She could feel her heart pounding against her ribcage. She stared at the big rock on her finger, still in disbelief that she married this man seated beside her in the car, a week ago. The car stopped at the venue. “It’s time to let the world know you are married to me,” Logan said, stepping out of the car. He offered his hand to her. She hesitated before taking his hand, knowing if she did this, there was no backing out.“Smile. You don’t want people to think I forced you against your will,” he whispered as they stood on the red carpet. The flash light went off as the paparazzi took pictures of them.“How can I, when this dress is killing me.” She sighed with a pinched expression.“Nobody can wear this dress better than you,” Logan whispered into her ear.Emily's muscles tensed. She opened her mouth to say something nasty to him but thought better of it.They were announced and directed to where Emily’s family was all seated with the Miller’s. Emily walked up t
