Chapter 22

"You again? What are you doing here?" Mr. Alex yelled, pointing a finger at me.

"How dare you yell at the alpha? I'm sorry, my lord, he forced his way in here claiming he's your father-in-law. Please forgive me," the guard in charge of the gate pleaded.

"It's okay, you can let him in," I turned to face Mr. Alex. "Come in," but he scoffed.

"Come inside? To do what? Not after what you did to me the other day. You nearly caused me a panic attack! You kept following me like you'd seen me before. Forget about what I came here for. I should get going now," he started walking away.

I felt bad hearing him say those words. My father couldn't even recognize me. I'm not wondering why the guards couldn't recognize him. I changed the previous guards because they were all working for my brother.

"Wait!" I ordered. He slowly turned, his leg shaking. It was obvious he was scared, but why? How come he no longer recognized me? "What do you want?" he asked angrily.

"Please follow me inside, I need to tell you something," I pleaded, but he chuckled, getting me pissed, but I dared not react.

"No way! Or do you want to force me?" I batted my lid repeatedly in confusion.

"No, I dare not! Don't worry, you can go," I muttered sadly.

"One more thing! Don't you dare send your guards after me! It's not like they'll find out anyway. Same way I did with you!" He pointed his finger at me for the second time.

"Do you realize you are standing in front of the alpha? You old jobless fool!" The guard grabbed him roughly, throwing him to the ground before I could realize it.

"Stop it, you fool!" I snapped angrily, punching him. He ended up falling on his butt.

"I'm sorry, I didn't ask him to do that to you," I approached him, trying to help him up, but he crawled back on his butt.

"Don't fake it! Pretending doesn't suit you! I don't need your help; just leave me be!" He struggled to get up and then stormed out.

Anger surged as I glared daggers at the guard, wondering what I should do with him.

"See what you've caused, you son of a bastard!" I punched him, sending him back to the floor.

"I'm sorry, my lord. I didn't know he was someone important to you. Seeing him insult you that way, I got pissed. Please forgive me, my lord," the guard pleaded.

"Do you know how long I've been waiting for this opportunity? You don't because if you did, you wouldn't have treated him the way you did. You better find a way to get him back here if you still want to keep your head! Don't push me to the wall!" I stormed back in, leaving the guard kneeling.

I wanted to follow him, but I remembered his warning and kicked against it.

Alisha's POV

I haven't seen Henry for the past three days, and it worries me. Recently, I've been having a weird feeling about him. He's been acting suspicious lately. He goes out in the morning and returns at night, but three days ago, he didn't bother coming home and didn't care to tell me about it or at least call to inform me he wasn't coming back. His attitude toward Daniel changed overnight. He no longer smiled fondly at him or carried him in his arms like he usually does. I'm scared and confused. I have a feeling he's found out about Henry being Darien's son. I mean, why wouldn't he when Daniel is turning out to be exactly like Darien? Thinking about it alone makes me hate him more. I blame him for every single thing that's been happening to me. First, he harassed me, then got me pregnant. Then he planned on selling me out once I put to bed. He forced me to run away from home. And just when I think I'm finally free from him, he's followed me here through Daniel. Why's he after my life?

"Are you okay?" I heard Henry's voice and I turned.

"I am. Where have you been?" I noticed his facial expression change immediately after I asked.

"I went somewhere important. How have you been, and where's Daniel?" He tried changing the topic, but not this time. I won't give him the chance to slide from answering my question.

"Where? Is it that important that you forget you have people waiting at home? You have been away for three days, and you didn't feel I was worthy enough to know about it? You should have at least called me," I blurted in anger.

"And why should I tell you? Stop poking into my business like it's yours! We are not a couple or anything! I'm tired of you pushing me around like you are my wife! I've been trying, Alisha. I've been taking care of you and your kid all these years; what else do you want from me?" His voice was void of emotions as he said those words. I knew it. He's not different from his mean brother. It runs in their blood.

"Really? Just because of a simple question you now rub my misfortune in my face! Oh wow!" I chuckled, fighting back my tears.

He sighed, then ruffled his hair in frustration.

"I'm sorry, Alisha, I didn't mean it that way. I only said those words out of annoyance; please forgive me," he pleaded.

"Forgive you? I dare not get mad; I mean you've been taking care of my kid and me, so who am I to get angry?" I chuckled sarcastically.

"Don't say that, Alisha. You know I'm not usually like this. I have a lot on my mind, so coming back here is for me to rest, but when you asked that question, I got pissed. I'm sorry," I wiped my tears with the back of my palm.

"It's fine," he smiled.

"Mom, is it true that he's not my dad?" My eyes widened as I looked down to see Daniel standing behind me, his face covered with tears.
