Aching in my body consumed me as I saw everyone in the manor rushing through the room to assist Millie, their now former Luna, and Lady. Anger filled me at the attention they were giving Millie over me.

I looked at Eddy and reached out my hand. “Assistance, please?” I croaked.

Eddy turned toward me, his eyes blaring reddish amber, as he looked at Millie, who was being carried to the ambulance awaiting outside.

“Edwin.” I commanded him using my Sire/Maker's privileges, as Eddy seemed to be struggling with who to choose.

Eddy slowly approached me, hoisting me up and wrapping my arm around his shoulder as I leaned on his 6'2'' frame.

“Was it worth it, Luis?” Eddy asked.

I began wondering the same question to myself as we walked down the stairs behind the ever-growing fleet around Millie.

I was a tad irritated as I was their leader, and Sire/Maker for some. Seeing them bustling around her, ignoring me, stung more than I cared to admit.

My mother had trained Millie once we were married, and it showed as that most of the Colony chose to be near her today rather than me. I consoled myself by convincing myself their preference was due to my being over 1,000 years old and the heir of an Lord-Alpha Bloodline.

That it was my healing abilities would cause a chosen mate-bond to snap and heal like a pinprick in several hours. Not facing the actuality that a Lady-Luna was more adored than me.

I sighed, looking up at the stairs and the second-floor balcony, seeing my mate Gracie looking down in the fray.I smiled to reassure her, but I worried she'd face more bullying once everyone found out what happened today with their now Former Lady-Luna.

Turning my attention back as Eddy pulled me along to the car, I wondered how I messed up so badly even after arranging everything and hoping to handle both under one roof.

Pondering my thoughts as I saw the first ambulance drive off and another paramedic in a second ambulance approaching me. I waved him off.

“My Beta will drive me to the hospital; focus on the former Lady-Luna.” I said bitterly. As the paramedic ran to his ambulance, I walked with Eddy, who was helping me to one of our six silver BMWs.

A cold sweat covered my body as I let Eddy put me in the passenger’s seat. Noticing that I had soaked my suit with the sweat from healing from the mateship snap, I closed my eyes as Eddy began to drive.

We did not speak for a few minutes. Opening one eye, I looked at Eddy, whose tan, deep almond skin and dark brown hair alone nearly killed the pale vampire stereotype, as he looked like he was from a Wolf Pack rather than a Vmpire Colony.

“Edwin. Do you not care for me as much as the now-former Lady-Luna?” I asked cheekily, trying to get a response.

Eddy snarled at me when I used his full name, but I could still see some brown in his eyes, so I knew he wasn't completely angry with me. That gave me some solice as Eddy as of recently became my sole friend inside the Colony.

“We are about 30 minutes out from the hospital. Do you want to have this conversation, Luis?” Eddy asked.

I sighed and began to talk to my Beta.

“I thought I had secured the area. I am sorry, I forgot that my chosen mate was half-human in my lust for my second-chance mate.”In my response, I heard a growl, seeing Eddy, who was still irritated that I had forced his silence about Gracie with Millie.

Millie had befriended nearly everyone in the Colony and often took over many of her roles. Being the daughter of a Faye Chieftain made her strong-willed, whereas Gracie was eager to follow me around and do as I wished. I had wanted both and, due to my lust, I ended up in this mess.

Eddy’s phone buzzed in the dash as I looked at it for Eddy. The caller ID said Mandoza, our PR rep for all things, since the Starlyn Colony was the second largest in the US.

"Mandoza." I said grimly as Eddy nodded, signaling that I could answer it.

Opening the phone and the message, I see two headlines already released: “Starlyn and assistant?” “Betrayed Lady-Luna, now single.”

I growled as one of the pictures showed Millie in the primary manor's garden, pregnant and looking innocent. The other was of Gracie and me during a public event with hearts around us so tinted to make us look like villains.

“Vultures, not even giving Gracie a chance.” I hissed, putting the phone back into the console.

“Are you sure about Gracie, Luis? You know Is-” Eddy began as the simple mention of the dreaded name made me feel intense rage.

“DO NOT SPEAK HER NAME TO ME!” I roared at him, almost mentioning my First-Fated's name.

Eddy shrugged at the display as he was used to my Alpha/Elder energy now. I seethed settling down as it put strain on my wounded body.

“Fine! She who shall not be named may be like Gracie a ploy to destroy the Colony!” Eddy shouted at me, not looking away from the road.

Groaning at the memory of my First-Fated mate, I winced in agony from the bond snap, torn between the heart-wrenching loss of Millie and my child, and the unexpected arrival of my Second-Fated mate, Gracie. Conflicted emotions surged within me, of past love and loss that intertwined with the promise of a new beginning, hoping I had made the right choice.

I moved uncomfortably in my seat due to both the memory and the pain that was still rocking in my body. I hated to admit I had never wanted to agree to Gracie's demands but she kept pushing until today. Yet like always Millie was a step ahead of me.

“Give, Gracie a chance. She is a fledgling that lost their Sire/Maker due to hunters’ invasion of their Colony. You were there the day we went to the Colony of Jasmine Fields to provide the FEMA relief.” I said to him, looking at Eddy’s stern face hoping he believed my want of this situation.

Eddy shuddered at the mention of the destroyed Colony, his eyes flicking toward me.

“Okay, but still, Gracie's just past her newborn stage. One who we could not find out who her Sire/Maker was.” Eddy said.

Ignoring his complaints, I thought of my Second-Chance mate, remembering the smell of daffodils the length of her chestnut-brown hair and how her hazel eyes looked at me with awe and admiration.

“I know how I mishandled it, but my heart and body craved her and won.” I said, my eyes looking for any sense of understanding from my Beta, who would not look at me.

Luis’s POV

St. Liliths Hospital / Room 1A

------------

Eddy pulled into the hospital and only turned to me as he opened his door to get out.

“Lady-Luna Millie deserved to know Lord-Alpha that's all I'm saying.” Eddy said as he exited the car, slamming the door shut behind him.

I got out of the car and let Eddy help me walk into the hospital. I became less angry when the doctors and nurses rushed to me, ushering us to a private room, undressing me to change into a gown, and setting me in the room.

Soon leaving only Eddy and I were in the room, as I could hear the staff chattering as I looked at him.

"Always so cute how they get excited to see me." I said as Eddy huffed. To my dismay, the door opened, not to another cute nurse but to my Uncle Oskar, the current ranking Elder.

My Uncle Oskar walked into the room. His long blonde curls covered his piercing blue eyes as he entered, turning to look at me.

Hoping he was there to check on me, though as he held up his phone and showed the PR message, I knew this was anything but a casual visit of concern.

"I can explain-" I pleaded, wincing slightly in pain.

“Always causing issues, Luis.” My Uncle said, his voice dripping with disappointment.

I felt a shiver run down my spine. “Millie-” I began, but my Uncle snarled, causing me to quiet down.

“Why did you not listen to my advice on the Divorce?” Uncle Oskar asked as I focused on his dark blue button-up shirt, as his aura expanded in the room.

“I refuse to continue to be married to Millie when I do not love her!” I exclaimed as my Uncle Oskar’s piercing light blue eyes narrowed slightly.

“If you do not fix this, Luis, I may step in. Even if it means taking your former bride.” Uncle Oskar hissed threateningly as I rolled my eyes.

"Yes, Uncle." I said as he left, slamming the hospital door behind him.

“Millie would never marry him.” I hissed once my Uncle left the room.

“Why do you care? You just broke your mateship and have been cheating on Millie.” Eddy said under his breath to me.

Ignoring him, I could hear the stampede of people, no doubt chasing down my Uncle for answers. Turning down my hearing ability, I tried to stay calm.

“I care because I don't want my child calling their great uncle ‘Dad'." I hissed at Eddy.

The weight of Uncle Oskar’s words sank in, yet I could not bear the thought. Hoping soon I would be with my fated mate and not someone I had married for political reasons, and we could live peacefully. But the reality of the situation was far more complicated than I wanted to admit.

"Eddy, turn on the TV please." I said as Eddy complied to my request.

The screen flickered to life, showing the outside of the hospital. My Uncle Oskar, the billionaire CEO, stood in the center; his casual attire had been changed to a suit, as the press buzz my Uncle dropped to one knee, a dazzling diamond ring in hand, and the camera zoomed in on the ring, as my Uncle smoothly said.

"My Nephew seems to have forgotten how to be an an Lord-Alpha and Elder, then I will step up and, in doing so, secure our alliance and the heirs to our Colony I hereby ask Millicent Jonquilla Birchwood to be my wife.' My Uncle's deep southern voice boomed on the mic.

The press swarmed, microphones and cameras thrust forward, capturing every moment. The headline scrolled across the bottom:

“Will Lady-Luna Millivent accept the proposal or return to the Faye colony that is rumored to be worth millions. Is the Former Lady a secret Heiress?"

My heart sank as I realized the implications, snarling as I needed to act to save mine and my mates' reputation. Also, to hope Millie did not choose him. As I hurried to gather a team I began to wonder if Millie was an heiress, which could be impossible, since when I met her they barely had a hut or whatever they called it built, yet as I saw her and my uncle swirling the surrounding news I could no longer underestimate either of them.

"Find out what you can about the Silver Fir Sect." I ordered as Eddy nodded, yet, as he left wondering who the woman I had been married to could have kept this from me, for this definitely changed the playing field.
