Waking up from blackness, I peered at a blinding light above me. Blinking a few times, hearing the chatter of voices around me.

"Where am I?" I asked, sitting up. My assistant, Serena rushed to my side.

"Lady-Luna Starlyn! Oh, thank Lilith you're awake!" Serena exclaimed, her dark red curls bouncing as she hurried over.

Since I became the Lady-Luna of the Manor, Serena has been my handmaiden, helping me with everything. After a few years into our marriage, Luis allowed me to take over some businesses, and Serena followed me, becoming my personal assistant.

"Serena, where am I?" I asked again as she held my hand.

"St. Lilith's, room 4, my Lady-Luna." the concerned red-haired vampire replied.

Serena was one of the few people I trusted to help me pull off my plan when I felt Luis had betrayed me. Much to my pleasure, she was there every step of the way.

me that Serena helped me as the Starlyn Family was the second-largest Colony in the United States. Hence, everyone adored them, leaving me not many resources to escape the sham of a marriage I was in.

"What happened?" I asked, still hazy, though memories started to return as Serena got closer, filling me in.

"You fainted after rejecting Lord Starlyn; you've been out for five days," Serena said, reaching to hold my hand.

I cursed, unable to mind-link this conversation. The Colony's mind-link, due to it being Vampires, usually ended the moment you left the comment, causing what I was now feeling—a nasty headache.

"The baby?" I asked, worried I had risked its health. I sighed in relief when I felt a kick in my stomach and saw my large bump as relief washed over me that nothing hat happened to the baby.

Serena touched my stomach, smiling as she pushed a red curl behind her ear.

"The twins are fine." Serena whispered.

Serena's words caused me to freeze in my bed.

"Twins?" I asked in shock.

Serena nodded with glee, her energetic happiness filling my nose with a peppermint scent.

"Yes, my Lady-Luna, healthy twins. The doctors said they did not see the other one until now because it had been hiding behind the other child." Serena said, smiling, showing her fangs.

I had told everyone who did know, even the doctor, that I did not want to know the gender until they were born. The reason was that Luis, still Alpha, could command me now without my ability to access Luna's command, and if he found out, it was twins, and one was a boy I would be hunted for the rest of my days even if I got to my homeland.

I shivered, thinking about it alone and looking at Serena.

"Serena, which doctor found this out, and did you get to my father?" I asked.

"Dr. Frost, I did, though I have something to inform you of." Serena said, causing me to sigh in relief. Dr. Frost was one of the few doctors here who did not follow Luis blindly.

"I am sure whatever it is, we can solve it." I said as Serena looked at me with a guilty look.

"What is it, Serena?" I asked, trying to focus on the plan we made six months ago. I'm now worried that something went awry this late in the game.

"Your plan…um, I did something, and please don't be mad." Serena said, looking at me curiously as she turned on the TV.

The TV flickered on; as Serena messed with the TV, I took a moment to see the mountains of flowers and get-well cards in my room, all opened and checked, thankful for Serena's diligence.

The reporter's voice, Shayley Clifton, filled the room, finally causing me to look at the screen. Shayle Clifton was the new hotshot reporter for the gossip news. I frowned as I saw her on the screen in her signature red business suit, her short blonde hair styled neatly, and her ears pierced with genuine diamonds.

"Reporting from St. Lilith's as we await news on the status of Lady Millicent and the heir to the Colony of Starlyn. Yet we wonder, will she say yes to the Ranking Elder, Lord Oskar Starlyn, the CEO billionaire, as he proposed five days ago and has been giving interviews? Lord-Alpha Luis was released yesterday and has not answered questions." Shayley's valley girl voice said as she smiled and turned it over to the news desk.

I watched the screen, turning pale. I turned to Serena, who looked like she had been caught red-handed.

Lord Oskar had turned Serena into a vampire decades ago, so I was so surprised she agreed to help me, sure she would side with his family. However, she was eager to help and explained that her maker was a more liberal, free-will-loving vampire.

"Serena, why is your Sire/Maker asking me to marry him?" I asked, still stunned. Serena, my usually fearsome 5'6" assistant, smiled cheekily at me like a child.

"You see, when you were out—" Serena began as she twirled her long, dark, curly red hair.

"Yes, out with it," I said as I sat more in the hospital bed.

Serena's pale green eyes looked at me nervously.

"Well, my sire, Lord Oskar, came to visit. He was so upset about Alpha Luis that he wanted to show him how big of an idiot he was." Serena said timidly.

"And?" I asked, crossing my arms.

Serena glanced at me and began stroking her hair as she walked closer, a nervous habit she had kept since we first met.

"Well," Serena continued, "Lord Oskar said he would propose to ensure the gossip was not on the main manor and assist you that way. He is also opening his estate to us at the secondary manor."She finished saying this as I took a deep breath.

Anxiety filled me as the twins kicked my ribs, causing me to wince. I could feel them move, and I looked at Serena and sighed, knowing she meant well as always. I couldn't be mad at her for trying her best to protect all of us.

"Did you get everything to my father at least?" I asked, changing the subject for now.

Serena's eyes beamed, seeing I was not mad. This was usual for Vampires, as most Sires/Makers were unforgiving. Even after eight years together, Serena was sure one day I would eventually treat her like Luis did his servants as of recently. I hated it yet luckily all Luis did was yell at them much to my interference.

"Your father has received all the documents and is making the necessary arrangements. He's also coordinating with the rest of your family and the Council of your home Sect of Faye." Serena replied, showing relief that I was not upset with her.

I nodded, feeling more at ease despite the sterile smell of the hospital room that made me nauseous.

"Good. We must ensure everything is in place before we make any moves. How was the journey?" I asked eagerly, as since I married Luis, the contract I signed meant I could not talk to my parents except once every full moon and was not allowed home to The Moonstone Grove, where my parents' Faye sect, the Silver Fir Sect, was.

Serena took a deep breath, her eyes sparkling excitedly as she recounted her adventure.

"It was quite an experience, my Lady-Luna. Passing through the Silver Fir Sect was a challenging feat. They are known for their strict security. But your parents, Chieftain Darragah and Chieftainess Eleanor, were incredibly welcoming once I explained our situation after their guards allowed me into the barrier."

Hearing my parents' names, my eyes watered as I wished to return home with them and my little brother. Serena paused to ensure I was okay, yet I motioned for her to continue.

"When I arrived at the barrier, I was initially met with suspicion. The guards were wary, but I showed them the documents and explained that I was there on your behalf. They allowed me to pass and escorted me to your parents' Longhouse. It was breathtaking, my Lady-Luna. I had no idea you and your brother Alexander were like royalty in Faye." Serena finished saying as her eyes glowed with admiration.

"What did my parents have to say?" I asked.

Serena thought for a moment and answered.

"They felt Luis took advantage of the circumstances when the contract was made and was unaware that the Silver Fir Sect had been allying with human buyers and had become worth billions. They said they want their daughter and grandchildren home and will send word to your lawyers, who called me and gave me this pendant."

I listened intently, feeling a mix of pride and anxiety. "A pendant?"

Serena reached into her skirt pocket and pulled out a small, intricately carved pendant.

"They gave me this, my Lady-Luna. It's a signal for you, a way to let you know they are ready to support you in any way possible. They were overjoyed to hear that you are finally leaving Luis and wanted to ensure you have everything you need."

I took the pendant from her, feeling a surge of emotion. My hands trembled slightly as I held it, the weight of my parents' support grounding me. "Thank you, Serena. This means a lot to me."

Serena smiled warmly. "It was my pleasure, my Lady-Luna. Your parents are wonderful people, and they are ready to stand by you. We will get through this together."

I looked at Serena happily. "Have my lawyers contacted you?" I asked quickly.

Serena nodded. "Mr. Adda did. He said he would meet you at Lord Oskar's manor as well. While you were asleep, they did some digging, and you need to stay in the Colony until the divorce is final," Serena said, sounding disappointed.

"Okay, but when can I rejoin my family?" I asked as the twins stirred within me, a reminder of the life growing inside me and the urgency of our situation.

"Your father said if all goes right and the lawyers confirm, everyone should be allowed to leave by Midsummer. With that energy, you can pass through the portal without magical help." Serena confirmed.

I was relieved and looked at my stomach, noting it was about a month out, and knew we could do it if necessary.

"Alright, and Serena?" I said.

"Yes, my Lady-Luna?" she responded.

I looked at her and smiled, though tears welled up in my eyes.

"I will go to Lord Oskar's if you come with me." I said, feeling a mix of emotions.

Serena's eyes widened in surprise, while taking a step closer. "My Lady-Luna, I'd be honored to accompany you." she said softly.

I smiled as I felt the twins moving, trying to ignore the nausea and craving for odd foods. I looked at Serena, her presence a comforting anchor.

"That means so much to me, Serena." I said, squeezing Serena's hand.

Just then, the door opened, and Dr. Frost entered. He was a 5'10" older vampire who still looked like he was in his mid-20s. His blue scrubs and coat contrasted with his youthful appearance, and his sneakers squeaked as he approached the bed.

A nurse in purple scrubs followed him, closing the door behind them.

Dr. Frost gave me a reassuring smile. "Don't worry, that's Nurse Jackson. He won't tell a soul." he said as Nurse Jackson smiled at me, too, walking over and closing the blinds in the room, as I was silently hoping we could all make it through this journey alive.
