A few moments later, Lydia finally arrived and her presence immediately eased the tension that had settled thickly in the room. The sound of her footsteps, light yet purposeful, seemed to bring the usual atmosphere back into the space. She moved with ease that came from years of caring for children as her hands quickly and efficiently tended to the infants who had been fussing in Klein’s arms just moments before. The cries of the babies quieted almost instantly under her gentle touch, and the room, which had been filled with their distressed wails, grew peaceful.

Klein watched her for a moment as he felt a wave of relief wash over him. With her taking over the care of the twins, Klein was able to step back with his shoulders dropping to is sides shifted off him. He immediately turned and headed straight to the bathroom.
