That very night, as the moon cast a soft glow over the estate, Evangeline moved quietly through her room, carefully packing her belongings. The babies were sound asleep as their tiny breaths were the only sound breaking the stillness. Each item she placed in her suitcase felt like a weight being lifted from her shoulders, yet also a burden she knew she couldn’t fully escape.

Evangeline was folding the last of the baby clothes when a soft knock interrupted her thoughts. "Evangeline?" Lydia's voice came through the door, gentle yet concerned.

Recognizing Lydia, Evangeline hesitated for a moment, glancing at the suitcases and then at the door. She took a deep breath, knowing that she couldn’t hide her intentions from the woman who had been by her side through so much. "Come in, Lydia," she responded, her voice quiet but steady.
