Chapter 51

FERRIS' POV

I paced back and forth in my study, letting my thoughts get the best of me. I couldn't get her out of my head—Elise. I couldn't stop thinking about that night. Ever since then, I've been thinking about what could have gone wrong for her to come see me by that time of the night.

I had, a need to protect her, to keep her safe from the dangers in Jackson's house. I could still see the sadness and blankness in her eyes, the way she stared into space like she was having an out of body experience. She looked so sad... So broken. Damn it, I should’ve asked her more. I should have pressed her until she told me what was really going on. Maybe with that, I would have been able to help her.

My fists clenched at my sides I knew Jackson well enough to be certain that his home was not safe for Elise. And yet, she lived there, trapped in a situation that I was slowly realizing might be worse than I initially thought.
