ELISE'S POV

I looked at Rudy in surprise. He wasn’t wearing regular clothes. He had a dark cloak thrown over his shoulders and a cap pulled low over his eyes. He looked like a miniature spy on a mission, sneaking through the flowers. I bit my lip, trying to stop myself from laughing. He was adorable.

For a split second, he looked like he’d been caught doing something he wasn’t supposed to. Then, he smiled sheepishly and stood up, brushing the dirt from his knees.

“Elise!” he said “Don’t tell anyone you saw me.”

I raised an eyebrow, amused. “What are you doing? And why are you dressed like that?”

Rudy puffed out his chest, trying to look brave. “I escaped my guards. They’re always following me around, and I wanted to see you, but I had to sneak out. That’s why I’m in disguise.”

I couldn’t help but laugh. “You escaped your guards just to see me?”

He nodded enthusiastically “I... I didn’t get to thank you properly for saving me the other day. I wanted to make sure I did it right.”
