ELISE'S POV

A hand pulled me into a room. The adrenaline from my narrow escape still coursed through me. I braced myself to face whoever had pulled me into the room. My mind races with possibilities—maybe someone wanted to punish me for going to the ball. .

When I finally gather the courage to lift my gaze, I was met with a familiar face - Lady Elena, Jackson's mother.

“Lady Elena!” I exclaimed, unable to keep the surprise out of my voice.

Her beautiful face broke into a smile, but she quickly raises a finger to her lips, signaling for silence.

“Hush, child,” she whispered, glancing toward the door. She cocked her head to the side, listening for any signs of movement outside. “He’s still out there.”

I froze, my breath catching in my throat. Of course, Jackson wouldn’t have given up so easily. The man was stubborn. He wouldn't stop until he caught me. We waited in silence for what felt like an eternity. I could hear my own heartbeat pounding in my ears.
